The father of a Flight 93 victim says a crescent-shaped design as part of a memorial to the hijacked airliner "does not properly honor our people." Tom Burnett Sr. of Northfield, Minnesota, objects because a crescent is sometimes used as a symbol of Islam and the September 11th attacks were plotted by Muslims. The planned crescent-shaped "memorial to heroes" of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania is nothing less than a huge outdoor mosque that pays homage to Islam, charges the author of a new book. The primary feature, he says, is the giant central crescent of what originally was called the "Crescent of Embrace" design. A person facing into this half-mile wide crescent – still present in the superficially altered "Bowl of Embrace" redesign – will be oriented almost exactly at Mecca.

An al-Qaida-linked extremist group warned Pope Benedict XVI on Monday that he and the West were "doomed," as protesters raged across the Muslim world to demand more of an apology from the pontiff for his remarks about Islam and violence. Despite the outrage of the American public over the planned memorial to those who lost their lives fighting terrorists who hijacked their plane on 9/11/2001, the Flight 93 Memorial does not appear to have changed. The “Crescent of Embrace” design still remains on winning architect Paul Murdoch’s site, as well as the official Flight 93 Memorial site.
