DALLAS (AP) — A 22-year-old mother was facing child abuse charges Friday after police say she glued her toddler daughter's hands to a wall, kicked her in the stomach and beat her over a potty training issue. Joselyn Cedillo, 2, was on life support with multiple internal injuries at a Dallas hospital Thursday, The Dallas Morning News reported ( ). A hospital spokeswoman told The Associated Press she had no information on the girl Friday. The newspaper, citing police records, said glue and paint were stuck to Joselyn's palms, and that skin had torn away in places.

It was an ordinary night, August 26, at the Exxon Tiger Mart at South Polk Street and Interstate 20 in Dallas. C.J. Thomas, the store's clerk, was behind the counter when a rush of customers came through the door at 10:12 p.m. "There was more coming in than going out," Thomas said. "Once they realized how many were in there, one of the students started throwing stuff and screamed out. Everything after that went crazy." Store surveillance cameras from different angles show bottles being thrown. Seconds later, Thomas ran to the front door. He tried to close it, but he...

Time Magazine’s Andrew Rotherham professed to being “confused” over Arne Duncan’s attack on the performance of Texas schools — and his ignorance over the performance of the Chicago school district Duncan actually ran. The Dallas Morning News’ editorial writer Rodger Jones isn’t confused at all. He’s irate. In a column that appeared in yesterday’s newspaper, Jones prints the response to Duncan from Robert Scott, Texas’ education chief, but not before getting in a few shots himself at Duncan’s “lies”: Education Secretary Arne Duncan’s insult to Texas public education was a politically motivated distortion that doesn’t become a federal official in...

DALLAS — A multimillion dollar whitewater course along the Trinity River in Dallas is complete, but the park isn't open. And it won't open until a major problem is fixed. Kayaker Justin Blake is one of the few who dares ride the rough water at The Dallas Waves park. Officially, it's closed; too dangerous, city leaders say. Blake now understands why after riding it for the first time this week. "You could get seriously injured if you're not careful," he said. The city spent millions of dollars adding concrete dams to create the whitewater rapids.

Agents were seen coming and going and searching vehicles at the county administration offices in the Texas Schoolbook Depository, at Price’s home in Oak Cliff and several other locations. Price’s attorney, Billy Ravkind, released copies of search warrants issued for the commissioner’s person and two vehicles — but not copies of other warrants for his home and office. The warrants said agents sought all electronic data from 2001 to the present related to...
