Sorry about this vanity going out to everyone, I wanted to put it in the Florida State group but don't have a post or reply button present. I have an extra ticket to the Daytona 500. I'm in Jacksonville and am looking for someone to go with. The person I bought the ticket for has medical problems and can't go. Here is the deal. The ticket is $130 and it's in the Oldfield section (coming out of turn 4). If you're in Jax and want to go, you can either buy the ticket, or pay gas, parking and food, drink....

Democrats quick to use quote to accuse Romney of being out of touch By Mark Russell, Newser Staff (Newser) – Mitt Romney's attempts to show he's just a regular guy continue to go awry. At an appearance at the Daytona 500 yesterday (which was rained out for the first time in history), Romney was asked by an AP reporter if he follows NASCAR. "Not as closely as some of the most ardent fans. But I have some great friends who are NASCAR team owners," he replied. No big surprise that Democrats were quick to use the sound bite to paint...

Quick. Name the only major American professional sport that opens every event with not only the national anthem but also corporate prayer. And we’re not talking about a neutered, politically correct offering to some generic deity but a bold petition to our Triune God in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. If you answered “NASCAR,” you would be correct. With that distinction, it is only fitting that racing’s brightest star on the horizon is a young, unashamed believer from Knoxville, Tenn., named Trevor Bayne. This fresh-faced kid shocked the sports world last Sunday by becoming the youngest...

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Sarah Palin took a break from the snow and played politician on stock car racing's biggest stage. Pretty important place on the political landscape, too. The former vice presidential candidate and Alaska governor sped around Daytona International Speedway on Sunday, shaking hands and taking photos with drivers and fans alike before what she called the "all-Americana event." Palin said she was "having fun and not thinking about the politics of this," but didn't miss the chance to energize her base in one of the most critical regions of the largest swing state. Is it possible there is a section or sub-section in their contract that turns over every aspect of decision making to Nextel? In this season of the Democratic primaries, everything is perceived in dichotomies of red and blue. We're reminded that the electorate is evenly divided, that ideology is rampant and that the voter sees the issues in negatives and positives. Polls suggest that George W. Bush will get a large majority of the white male vote and John Kerry will get a majority of the female vote. Conservatives are supposed to appeal to the NASCAR dad, the hard-drinking, hard-living workingman in the stands at the Daytona 500. Democrats will get the vote of the softer, socially conscious liberal ladies. "Democrats trolling...

Bush, who is to participate in the race's opening ceremonies, will be seeking the attention of the estimated 75 million Americans who follow the sport. Republican Party pit boss Ed Gillespie's pedal-to-the-metal style is aimed at more than just getting the vote out for President Bush. He's now going full speed ahead to register voters, especially NASCAR fans. A voter registration drive at last week's Daytona 500 was so successful that the GOP plans to take its "Race to Victory" bus to other NASCAR sites.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - When Bobby Labonte takes the green flag in Sunday's Daytona 500, he'll be racing for victory - and the Lord.

The hood of Labonte's car is both a shameless movie plug - "The Passion of the Christ,'' coming soon to a theater near you - and some new-style proselytizing for the Gospel.

Bobby Labonte plans to ride with 'Passion' for the 500 By Shannon Rose Sentinel Staff Writer February 12, 2004 DAYTONA BEACH -- Bobby Labonte won't need God as his co-pilot this weekend. He will have Jesus on his hood. The hood of Labonte's No. 18 Chevrolet, normally sponsored by Interstate Batteries, will carry a promotion for the Mel Gibson movie The Passion of the Christ during Sunday's Daytona 500. It's a one-week deal that has given the team and the film a jolt of publicity. Labonte, who also will compete in one of today's Twin 125 qualifying races at Daytona...

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (AP) — Here's a challenge: Try finding a Democrat in the NASCAR garage. Richard Petty looked around and smiled. "You'd be hard-pressed," said Petty, the winningest driver in Nextel Cup history and - oh, yeah - a hardcore Republican. If President Bush was looking for a friendly audience in this vitriolic election season, he sure picked the right place. Bush is assured of getting a warm welcome - especially from those on the track - when he attends Sunday's Daytona 500. "He's just a great American," said Terry Labonte, a Bush supporter and fellow Texan. "In times...
