Bodies Doubled Up Again At Cook County MorgueOctober 6, 2011 5:42 AM CHICAGO (CBS) — The Cook County Morgue is once again double-stacking bodies on trays in its cooler. As WBBM Newsradio’s Steve Miller reports, at least 30 trays are being stacked on the cooler at the county Medical Examiner’s Office, 2121 W. Harrison St. “We should’ve had a burial in September but we didn’t,” said county Medical Examiner Dr. Nancy Jones. There are several reasons why no burial happened, Jones said. One reason is that the plain wood coffins for unclaimed bodies, which the Medical Examiner’s office calls burial...

The dead wood of Colorado’s lodgepole pine forest should be harnessed as biomass energy before it becomes fuel for a conflagration, a former Aspen mayor said. One way to do that could be a biomass project in Eagle County, where a Provo, Utah, company is considering construction of a 10-megawatt plant. Dean Rostrom, principal of Evergreen Clean Energy LLC, will discuss plans for a plant at a regional biomass summit from 12:45 to 4:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Carbondale town hall. The denuded lodgepole forest covering 4.2 million acres is becoming more dangerous, not less, as trees killed by the...

The Hague - A witness for the prosecution at the trial of wartime Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic told the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal on Tuesday that Muslims in eastern Bosnia mutilated bodies of dead Serb soldiers during Bosnia’s 1992/95 war. The witness, Petko Panic, a Serb, said sixty Serbs were killed at the Glodjansko brdo, near eastern town of Zvornik in the spring of 1992. Their bodies were later found mutilated, some beheaded and circumcised according to Muslim tradition. Panic testified that Muslims were tortured and killed by Serb paramilitary groups, which operated out of Karadzic’s control. “Muslims

During the recent GOP presidential debate, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said that Social Security is a "monstrous lie" and a "Ponzi scheme." More and more people are coming to see that Social Security is a Ponzi scheme, but is it a lie, as well? Let's look at it. Here's what the 1936 government pamphlet on Social Security said: "After the first 3 years — that is to say, beginning in 1940 — you will pay, and your employer will pay, 1.5 cents for each dollar you earn, up to $3,000 a year. ... Sales of new homes in the U.S. saw a modest decrease in the month of June, according to figures released Tuesday by the Commerce Department, with the drop in sales coming as a surprise to economists. New single-family home sales came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 312,000 in June, a 1 percent drop from revised figures that showed the May rate at 315,000. Most economists had predicted a slight rebound to an annual rate of 321,000 new home sales. Additionally, the May figures were revised downward from initial reports that showed an annual rate of 319,000.

The church designates each November as a month dedicated to praying for the dead. The Nov. 2 feast, the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day), is a day of special intercession for all those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (no. 1032) teaches us that prayer for the dead is one of the spiritual works of mercy. Why should we pray for the dead? Isn’t our fate sealed at the moment of our death? What good does prayer do? When we die we are destined for either...

There was a large increase in starts of multifamily units and a smaller gain in starts of single-family homes, the department reported. Analysts said this will be the new trend in home building as there are more renters than buyers in the market. The report was much better than expected. Economists surveyed...

Under the voluntary program, non-criminal Mexican illegal immigrants caught by the Border Patrol in Arizona are offered free flights to Mexico City. From there, they are given bus passes to return to their hometowns. The goal of the annual summer initiative is to prevent illegal immigrants from trying to cross the border again in the hopes of saving lives during the scorching summer months when hundreds die each year in Arizona.

There’s a lot about the White House’s account that doesn’t quite add up. I’m not just talking about the changing story that led spokesman Jay Carney to admit: “Even I’m getting confused”. The erroneous details that Osama bin Laden was armed (he wasn’t), that his wife was used as a human shield (she wasn’t), that his wife was killed (she wasn’t) can be put down to over-egging the pudding or, if you’re feeling generous, the fog of war. What I’m talking about is the bigger picture of how bin Laden was discovered and who was killed in that compound. Don’t...
  • Vanity: Can we please agree to warnings before gruesome dead photos are posted, even in a thread?

Is it OK to ask for simple "GRAPHIC WARNING" to be said before posting any photos of any gruesome dead bodies? I don't have a problem with them being posted, just would like a warning to be seen BEFORE the photo. If you want to stick a photo of bin Laden or Uday and Qusay, or whomever, especially the bloody ones, can you give the GRAPHIC WARNING and then do this / / / enough times to give someone a chance to not see it, or speed past it? We sensitive people want you to see it and we want...

*Snip to the summary*To sum it up, everything we as conservatives believe about our country's defense, the War on Terror, interrogation, special ops / black ops, Gitmo, and the realities of the world was validated. Our ideas won. Our tactics won. An enemy we never hesitated to call out was killed. Everything liberals believe about the same was defeated. They are trying to take credit for a win in a war they never acknowledged with tactics they openly hate. With a childish liberal in the White House, that may not be evident to much of the country at the moment....

The network also flashes "Obama Bin Laden" across its news ticker. A Fox News affiliate declared that President Barack Obama was dead and then flashed along their news scroll that "Obama Bin Laden" had died. While reporting the breaking news Sunday that Bin Laden had been killed in a mansion outside Islamabad, the Fox affiliate said, "President Obama is in fact dead. I'm sorry, Osama Bin Laden."Video here

WASHINGTON – Knowing there would be disbelievers, the U.S. says it used convincing means to confirm Osama bin Laden's identity during and after the firefight that killed him. But the mystique that surrounded the terrorist chieftain in life is persisting in death. Was it really him? How do we know? Where are the pictures? Already, those questions are spreading in Pakistan and surely beyond. In the absence of photos and with his body given up to the sea, many people don't believe bin Laden — the Great Emir to some, the fabled escape artist of the Tora Bora mountains to...

  • How does Obama justify his use of information obtained by "torture"?

On Fox News this morning, retired NYFD, Tim Brown, stated that the intel that located Bin Laden started under the Bush administration and probably was obtained using interrogation methods Obama condemned. Obama did not only condemn these methods, he called for the release of those captured and held because of them. Now, under Obama, we kill Osama, using information obtained by what Obama calls "torture." How does he justify that? I am elated that Osama is dead but I do not understand Obama's rationale on the point. Obama fails to appreciate that, in the training of our own forces, we...

WASHINGTON, April 26, 2011 – International Security Assistance Force officials confirmed today that an April 13 airstrike in Kunar province killed the No. 2 targeted insurgent in Afghanistan. Abu Hafs al-Najdi, a senior al-Qaida leader also known as Abdul Ghani, was a Saudi Arabian national who operated primarily from Kunar and frequently traveled between Afghanistan and Pakistan, officials said. He directed al-Qaida operations in Kunar, including recruiting, training and employing fighters, obtaining weapons and equipment, organizing finances and planning attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, officials added. Numerous other insurgents, including Waqas, another al-Qaida leader, Waqas, also were killed in...
