SummaryIn 2009, Congressman Gingrich supported a candidate for a special election for the 23rd district in New York that was pro-choice, pro gay marriage and supportive of numerous other items that most Republicans opposes. A more conservative candidate was available, but did not win a primary that consisted of a vote by 11 district members and not a public vote. Congressman Gingrich came out in suppport for Mrs Scozzafava as she was the selected candidate for the Republican party. He asserted that many of her principles were in line with the Republican party. He appeared on numerous radio shows to...

IF NOT ROMNEY, WHO? IF NOT NOW, WHEN? November 16, 2011So now, apparently, we have to go through the cycle of the media pushing Newt Gingrich. This is going to be fantastic. In addition to having an affair in the middle of Clinton's impeachment; apologizing to Jesse Jackson on behalf of J.C. Watts -- one of two black Republicans then in Congress –- for having criticized "poverty pimps," and then inviting Jackson to a State of the Union address; cutting a global warming commercial with Nancy Pelosi; supporting George Soros' candidate Dede Scozzafava in a congressional special election; appearing...

Former Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, a Republican, has been appointed to a medium-level position in the Cuomo administration. Scozzafava, who supported Andrew Cuomo in his run for Governor -- and a second Democrat, a Congressional candidate, two years ago -- has been appointed the deputy secretary for local government, a job at the Department of State. No word on what her salary is.

We've been telling you about Lisa Murkowski's attacks against all of you who have supported the Tea Party Express.Today she stepped up her attacks on you, and showed utter contempt for the people of Alaska who rejected her candidacy in the Republican primary. You've got to see her in her own words from this clip on CNN - watch it below: These liberal RINO politicians are shameful - they tell us about their "big tent" and then display complete hypocrisy when the voters reject them.Remember Arlen Specter? He left the Republican Party when it was clear he would lose against his...

November 16, 2009, 4:00 a.m. Dede Scozzafava Is No GOP ModerateShe is a donkey in an elephant costume. By Deroy Murdock Re-canvassed votes in upstate New York’s 23rd Congressional District foreshadow the second coming of third-party candidate Doug Hoffman. As Mark Weiner of the Syracuse Post-Standard reported Thursday morning, Conservative nominee Hoffman’s 5,335-vote deficit behind Democrat Bill Owens has shrunk to just 3,026 after Election Night tabulation errors were corrected. Some 10,200 absentee ballots remain uncounted. State Board of Elections spokesman John Conklin told Weiner, “All ballots will be counted, and if the result changes, Owens will have to...

Who is Dede Scozzfava? ... "This is my party, too," she insisted. "There are a lot of moderate people - Republicans, like me - and I'm hearing from an awful lot of them. And I think the Republican Party needs to know if they don't have room for us and they don't want us working with them, we're going to find a way to work against them." She acknowledged that many in the GOP would differ with her support for abortion rights and same-sex marriage. But she maintained that she approached those views from a conservative vantage point - a...

Dede Scozzafava is every bit the Liberal Republican the Grassroots has been warning about for weeks. Bowing to the political reality, reported in the Watertown Daily Times, "that Siena Research Institute poll numbers show her too far behind to catch up - and she lacks enough money to spend on advertising in the last three days to make a difference", Scozzafava announced this morning she was suspending her campaign. However, claiming that, "Today, I again seek to act for the good of our community," and, "I am and have always been a proud Republican," her actions reveal that nothing could...

The National Republican Congressional Committee will now be throwing its support to Hoffman, after endorsing Scozzafava and deriding the Conservative Party candidate in statements throughout much of the race.

SCOZZAFAVA's DROPPING OUT: WHO DOES IT HELP? HOFFMENTUM! Dede Scozzafava is suspending her campaign in New York's 23rd Congressional District. From BREAKING: Scozzafava suspends NY 23 campaign: Republican Dede Scozzafava has suspended her bid in next Tuesday’s NY 23 special election, a huge development that dramatically shakes up the race. She did not endorse either of her two opponents -- Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman or Democrat Bill Owens. Scozzafava has “probably made her last campaign appearance between now and Election Day,” spokesman Matt Burns told POLITICO. “She’s releasing her support to the two other candidates." "I had a discussion...

Oops! Markos Moulitsas, founder of the Daily Kos, has discovered that his endorsement can be political poison. Such was the case with his endorsement at the beginning of this month of the very liberal Republican candidate, Dede Scozzafava, in the New York 23rd CD special election: Club for Growth darling Doug Hoffman is running on the Conservative Party line, and has even garnered the endorsement of Fred Thompson. The guy has legitimate traction, fueled by the fact that Dede Scozzafava, the Republican, is actually the most liberal candidate in the race. (Heck, she has run on the very liberal Working...

Okay boys and girls. A bluebook exam question for you. What is the big excitement all about in the New York 23rd CD race that has captured the attention of the political world for the past week? I'll give you a really strong hint in the form of this observation from yesterday's Washington Post: "It is now a two-person race between Hoffman and Democrat Bill Owens with Scozzafava fading badly."Hmm. So you would think that any recent news story about that race would have to at least include a mention of the Conservative challenger Doug Hoffman who has surged to...

There are times when one must recognize that a special situation has appeared, and your instincts and the rules-of-thumb you usually follow must be thrown out the window. That is the situation confronting me with regard to the special election in upstate New York to elect a new Congressman. I favor conservative candidates, but I have always felt that once the primary is over, a Republican should support the Party’s candidate. That’s what Democrats do, and it is a major factor in their successes. This is why I supported Sen. John McCain in the last election even though I had...

Chris Cillizza at the Washington Post has written a story in his Morning Fix political news analysis that is sure to cause conniption fits over at the Daily Kos which endorsed "Republican" Dede Scozzafava in the New York 23rd CD race that has now grabbed the attention of the political world. The political news that Cillizza has reported looks great for Conservative Doug Hoffman, bad for Scozzafava, and very depressing for the Daily Kos (and Newt Gingrich): The Iowa caucuses may be more than two years from now but a series of moves by potential Republican presidential contenders has turned...

Mike Allen might not be a Republican political strategist, but he tried playing one on TV today, telling the GOP it was "crazy" and "suicidal" to be supporting Doug Hoffman over Dede Scozzafava in a special congressional election in northern New York. Politico's chief political correspondent offered his unsolicited advice on today's Morning Joe. View video here.

Note to Politico: If you base a story on an outdated Daily Kos poll you could end up with egg on your face. This is pretty much what has happened in the past three days. On Saturday your humble correspondent cited a Politico story of the day before by Josh Kraushaar in which he reported on Doug Hoffman continuing to lag behind in third place in the NY 23rd CD race: The latest poll in the New York special election shows a close race, with Democrat Bill Owens leading Republican Dede Scozzafava 35 to 30 percent, with Conservative party candidate...

This is a Politico congressional race story that should have been labeled "WARNING: Read this story with a huge grain of salt." Why? First of all because the poll of the New York 23rd Congressional District was mostly taken before the big events of this past week were well known there. And even more importantly, the source of the poll was the Daily Kos which endorsed the very liberal Republican in the race, Dede Scozzafava. However, before we go into how absurd this poll was, let us watch Josh Kraushaar of Politico get all breathless about this highly questionable story:...

Jack Abramoff, present jailbird, was convicted of all sorts of crooked schemes. One of his favorites was to funnel money through various organizations into the hands of other people. It appears Dede Scozzafava is funneling RNC, NRCC, and donor dollars through her campaign account to her family

Why Republicans Remain Reprehensible - - Part 502 Calls for Political Civil War bythelastcrusade.org The Republican leaders of the House of Representatives have endorsed a GOP congressional candidate in New York who supports abortion, same-sex "marriage," and President Obama's economic "stimulus" program. The November 3 special election in New York's 23rd Congressional District features Republican far left candidate Dede Scozzafava, Democrat Bill Owens, and Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman. Despite her widely publicized endorsement of abortion on demand, the federal endorsement of gay and lesbian weddings, and her enthusiasm for billions in bail-outs for investment bankers and car manufacturers,...

In July liberal Republican DeDe Scozzafava was tapped by the 11 Republican county chairmen of New York's 23rd Congressional District to run for the seat being vacated by John McHugh, who resigned to take Obama's offer to become Secretary of the Army. The NY GOP made a huge mistake with this smoke-filled-room choice. Scozzafava has made a hash of this campaign and should withdraw her candidacy immediately and allow Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman to take her place. Her lousy campaign aside, the prime reason we want to Dump Dede is because she doesn't seem to be much of a...

Watertown, NY -- Dede Scozzafava, the Republican candidate in the hot 23rd Congressional District race, picked an unusual spot for a news conference this morning -- the sidewalk in front of the Watertown headquarters of her Conservative opponent, Doug Hoffman.  “Doug Hoffman and (Democrat) Bill Owens continue to dodge, duck and bob and weave and don’t want to talk about the issues in debate, so we think it’s a great backdrop to stop over and ask what the holdup is in agreeing to debates,” said Matt Burns, speaking for the Scozzafava campaign. Scozzafava’s opponents “continue to hide behind 30-second television commercials...

ASSOCIATED PRESS ALBANY — President Obama and former President Bill Clinton are lending their political star power to an unlikely Democratic bid to win a special congressional election in an area that’s been a Republican bastion for more than a century. The Nov. 3 contest in upstate New York’s 23rd Congressional District, a sprawling, 11-county area where registered Republicans outnumber Democrats by 45,000 voters, is shaping up as a test of a struggling GOP and a possible gauge of Obama’s coattails. Obama, who carried the district by 5 percentage points in his landslide victory in New York last year, forced...

"Hello, 911? This is the Dede Scozzafava campaign. Could you send a police car over to the Elks Lodge? There is a reporter here asking our candidate uncomfortable questions. Thank you."Something like this call went out last night when a reporter committed the "high crime" of asking Republican congressional candidate, Dede Scozzafava (endorsed by the Daily Kos), questions that she obviously felt very uneasy about answering. Scozzafava, who was recently the subject of an Open Thread here on NewsBusters, is running in the special election for the open seat in the NY 23rd congressional district. She was being questioned last...

Conservatives have been a little concerned behind the scenes about 2012. There are many stars on the right wanting to run, but many of them were going to be overshadowed by Newt Gingrich. He has, deservedly or not, taken the mantle of conservative thinker and run with it. Today though, Gingrich decided to give up the mantle of conservative thinker and pick up the mantle of political opportunist. Those of us who already had a sick feeling as we thought about his personal baggage being trotted out by the left no longer have to worry. Today Newt Gingrich endorses Dede...

Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava is not your typical Republican candidate. Running in a special election in upstate New York for the seat of departing Congressman John McHugh, she has, naturally, picked up the support of state and national Republican party officials. She has secured the full support of the National Republican Congressional Committee and that of its chairman, Texas Rep. Pete Sessions. But, she has also picked up the support of the DailyKos, not a traditionally deep well of support for Republicans. Oh, and ACORN’s Working Families Party. Below is a memo Big Government obtained circulating among leaders of the conservative...

While Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader John Boehner clearly haven't figured out yet how to work together, left-wing blogger Markos Moulitsas and NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions just as clearly have. How else to explain Moulitsas' endorsement of Sessions' favored candidate for Congress in the special election in New York's 23rd Congressional District? Yes, that's the district newly confirmed Secretary of the Army John McHugh just vacated, where the anointed Republican candidate -- New York Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava -- has been the subject of local and national conservative scorn. Now comes the endorsement by the left's premier blogger -- and...

Washington - Club for Growth PAC today endorsed Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in the special election for New York's 23rd Congressional District. Hoffman, a Republican, decided to run after local GOP leaders hand-picked liberal Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava as their nominee. “After months of runaway spending, bailouts, and record deficits, the last thing we need in Congress is another rubber stamp for Nancy Pelosi and the liberal Democrats,” said Club President Chris Chocola. “Doug Hoffman is the only candidate in this race who will stand up for taxpayers and fight to protect our freedoms in Washington.” Hoffman, a certified public...
