On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour,” Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas responded to questions on whether President Joe Biden will take executive action on the border to combat the surge at the border that is taking up resources by saying that “Executive actions in the past have been challenged in the court[s], and executive actions without the accompanying resources will not meet the moment.” And “We are always considering what we as an administration can do in the shadow of Congress’ failure to act, but we continue to believe that Congress must and can act. We must have them deliver the...

WASHINGTON — Traumatized by the results of 2000 and 2016, when Republicans George W. Bush and Donald Trump won the presidency despite getting fewer votes than their Democratic opponents, many on the left and center-left have developed a deep aversion to the state-by-state counting of electoral votes, regarding it as both anti-democratic and anti-Democratic. A Gallup poll taken in 2020, for example, found that roughly 9 in 10 Democrats favored abolishing the electoral college and choosing the president solely on the basis of who gets support from the most voters. Just 2 in 10 Republicans agreed. Responding to that sentiment,...

Under pressure to address skyrocketing street crime last summer, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced a $1 million reward program for people who report illegal guns. “I want you to know that I recognize that people are scared. People all over the city. This is the topic of conversation,” Lightfoot said as she announced the fund’s creation in July 2021. “Gun violence is holding us back from realizing our individual potential and our potential and greatness as a city.” In the year since Lightfoot announced the initiative, however, the city has only paid out $10,395 to tipsters, according to the police...

The blizzard of emails around this FRAUD of the "Stealection" caused me to overlook one of the most important issues of Hillsdale College's excellent "IMPRIMIS" newsletter. The link below will take you to it: IMPRIMISIf you're not hooked after the first 4 paragraphs, let me know and I'll remove you from this list. As you read this, we're in trouble. This last "Stealection" was STOLEN by leftists who, for past and future promises of wealth and power, have literally invited an alien ideology into the deepest reaches of what was once the "America" left us by the Founders. If not...

Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor is worried. In a recent speech at Boise State, O'Connor said: "Less than one-third of eighth-graders can identify the historical purpose of the Declaration of Independence, and it's right there in the name. ... The more I read and the more I listen, the more apparent it is that our society suffers from an alarming degree of public ignorance." This is good news for the left. The ill-informed are more susceptible to emotional arguments. They are more likely to see life as a zero-sum game. They are more likely to believe that the...

As Gov. Martin O’Malley’s gun control proposal works its way through the Maryland General Assembly, gun rights activists already are preparing payback for those legislators who are allowing it through. Patrick Shomo, president of Maryland Shall Issue, a gun rights group, said he’s seen a movement in the gun rights community to register new voters in anticipation of the 2014 statewide election, and in some cases to switch membership from Republican to Democratic. ------------------------cut----------------------- But soon the emphasis will shift, Shomo said, to fielding pro-gun rights candidates who can oust incumbents who voted for the gun bill. “We’re going to...

Rahm Emanuel may have decamped to Chicago, but Democrats in Washington still won't let a good crisis go to waste. Their current gambit is to use Hurricane Irene as a pretext to prevent spending cuts to one of Washington's most notorious boondoggles. This week the left-wing press has been attacking House Majority Leader Eric Cantor for holding disaster relief funding "hostage." A more accurate way to put this is that Senate Democrats won't approve new funding for disasters unless they get the funding they want for corporations that make electric cars.

Mark Halperin, editor-at-large for Time, called President Obama “a dick” on Wednesday on a popular MSNBC morning show and then quickly apologized. “I thought he was a dick yesterday,” Halperin, who also is a senior political analyst for MSNBC, said on Morning Joe, referring to the President’s conduct during his press conference. Host Joe Scarborough hoped to prevent the comment from being broadcast, saying, “Delay that. Delay that. What are you doing? I can’t believe… don’t do that. Did we delay that?”

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Americans are more pessimistic about the U.S. economic outlook than they have been since the start of the Obama administration and most believe the United States is on the wrong track, according to a New York Times/CBS News poll released on Thursday. The number of Americans who think the economy is getting worse jumped 13 percentage points in just one month, to 39 percent, the poll suggested. Just 23 percent said they thought the economy was improving, down 3 percentage points from the previous month. Seventy percent of respondents said the country was heading in the wrong...

Today, the House will likely pass another “emergency spending” bill, HR 1586, an overused phrase that has come to mean “appease key interest group,” in this case, teachers unions. Democrats argue that Republicans are cold hearted at best, malevolent at worst, for opposing a $10 billion tax increase which will go directly to the “Education Jobs Fund.” The revenue collected from this tax increase will be spent keeping overly compensated teachers employed. Teachers unions have lobbied themselves into a tight spot. They have advocated for wages and compensation so high, state taxpayers can no longer afford to pay them...

Rep. David Dreier (R-Calif.), the ranking Republican on the House Rules Committee, indicated yesterday that he was resigned to letting congressional Democrats make the Senate health-care bill the law of the land without ever holding a vote on it in the House of Representatives by passing a rule governing debate on another bill, the budget reconciliation, that "deems" the health care bill as passed. Article 1, Section 7 of the Constitution, however, expressly states that for any bill to beome law "the Votes of both Houses shall be determined by the yeas and Nays, and the Names of the Persons...

Subject: Tea Party Etiquette TO: Freshman and Sophomore House Democrats FROM: Office of the Assistant to the Speaker DATE: March 15, 2010 RE: Tea Party Etiquette As many of you have read, tomorrow, Tuesday, March 16, 2010, tens of thousands of conservative and Tea Party activists will be on the Hill as part of what they are dubbing a “Surge Against Obamacare.” Rick Scott, a multimillionaire investor and former hospital executive, is helping to lead the grassroots effort along with a number of other groups on the right like...

What with the Left's obsession with "tea-bagger" references and calling Sarah Palin a "MILF" or "TWILF," perhaps it is time for the DNC to dump the Donkey symbol and go with this symbol. They giggle uncontrollably when someone says something that they consider to be dirty. Beyond swear words and sexual innuendo, their vocabularies are very, very limited. They live in their own little world where they and only they are smart while at the same time worshiping MTV and mindless pop culture. They view everyone who does not live in their little world to be losers and worse. Beavis...

Two Questions: 1) Why must the democrats insist on shoving this giant health care suppository up our hind ends so quickly? 2) Why do they insist on gulping down the entire enchilada all at once as opposed to a piecemeal approach? The first question is easy to answer. It's now or never. Citizens are getting wise to the Washington game, and they don't like it. Support is going down, not up. They may never get this chance again. Lefties squealed like stuck pigs when Bush rammed through the Patriot Act and rushed us to war in Iraq. Although I think they...

With all the hoopla over greasy pork being stuffed into President Barack Obama's near trillion-dollar spending bill, it's what is being cut out that's receiving too little attention. And once Americans realize it, they won't be happy. What's been quietly stripped is a provision that would have required any businesses receiving federal stimulus cash to use an easy computer program called E-Verify to make sure that the jobs they generate go to American citizens or documented foreign workers, not illegal immigrants. Democrats in the House voted for the E-Verify component. But when the great porkulus package reached the Senate, Democrats...

IN an election campaign notable for its surprises, Sarah Palin, the Republican vice- presidential candidate, may be about to spring a new one — the wedding of her pregnant teenage daughter to her ice-hockey-playing fiancé before the November 4 election. Inside John McCain’s campaign the expectation is growing that there will be a popularity boosting pre-election wedding in Alaska between Bristol Palin, 17, and Levi Johnston, 18, her schoolmate and father of her baby. “It would be fantastic,” said a McCain insider. “You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the...

You’d think, given their heavy dependence on union money, Democrats would treat labor leaders a little more respectfully at their National Convention every four years. But AFL-CIO president John Sweeney will have only a few minutes to address convention delegates today — squeezed in before prime time speeches by the first openly lesbian member of Congress, an Hispanic congressman from California, and an autoworker who is about to lose his job. Sweeney may not getting much TV exposure, but don’t be deceived. He’ll get his money’s worth from the Dems if Barack Obama is elected president and the Democrats expand...

Over at the Huffington Post, blogger Greg Gutfeld examines the rise of what he calls "the Patriotic Terrorist:It is an American who claims to love his or her country while enjoying the enemy's success against said country. It is a person who gets deeply offended if you question their patriotism, while also appearing to share the same ideals of the more spirited folk who like to blow up innocent people.Patriotic terrorists love America with so much intensity that it appears to the untrained eye that they hate it. But it's actually the most powerful form of "tough love" known to...

What happened last week made me sick. In a move designed to shut up the Democrats in the house, a bill was introduced that would have called for the immediate withdrawal of all US troops in Iraq. Only three Dem's voted for it, but not before some serious yelling and screaming. Nancy Pelosi called it "A disgrace." A representative from Maryland chimed in with "The rankest of politics and the absence of any sense of shame." The whole mess started when John Murtha from Pennsylvania held a press conference about his plan to remove 160.000 soldiers from Iraq ASAP. Part...
