INDIANAPOLIS -- All of the votes cast in Marion County still had not been counted as of early Wednesday afternoon because some voting machines had not been turned in to election headquarters. The county's Democratic Party attacked County Clerk Doris Anne Sadler for what they called her mismanagement of Tuesday's election, 6News' Derrik Thomas reported. Democrat Chairman Ed Treacy compared the county's election troubles with what used to happen in Soviet bloc countries. Sixty-six regular voting machines were not returned to election headquarters as of noon Wednesday, and none of the electronic voting machines was returned, Thomas reported. The outcome...

Indianapolis - For the first time in a decade, Congresswoman Julia Carson is in a tough race for re-election. Her campaign started running a batch of positive image ads on the same day National Democrats go after her Republican opponent with the gloves off. Her yard signs sell love, but there is no love in fliers hitting some 7th District mail boxes attacking Congresswoman Julia Carson's opponent. "I'm absolutely shocked and appalled," says Republic Eric Dickerson. The ads were done by the National Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in Washington and not by Congresswoman Carson. Carson told Eyewitness News "I'm outraged...

Much has been written about Democratic challengers taking over Republican incumbent seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. In one Indiana congressional district, however, an African-American Republican has the opportunity to beat a African-American Democratic incumbent. Challenger Republican Eric Dickerson is up against incumbent Democrat Congresswoman Julia Carson. Here’s why the race is interesting:

Like all of you, I was electrified by the recent news that our candidate Eric Dickerson had pulled ahead of Julia Carson a five term Democrat who won with just 54% of the vote in 2004. Aside from the obvious indications of a pick up of a seat, what makes this race still more exciting is that both candidates are Black. http://www.ericdickersonforcongress.com/ This is a very simple choice: Do we mobilize and contribute to the campaign of a Trained Marine war fighter or stand on the sidelines and let a cut and run surrender Liberal win by default? I have...

When presidential election returns are reported every four years, Indiana is among the first states to reliably and resoundingly fall into the red Republican column. But beneath the presidential level, Indiana is a fiercely competitive state between Democrats and Republicans. And that's particularly relevant this year when a trifecta of House races in the state could hold the key to whether the GOP will keep majority control in the House or Democrats will eke out at least the net gain of 15 seats they need to seize the majority they lost in 1994.

INDIANAPOLIS - A second media poll in a week shows that Democratic Rep. Julia Carson is in an unexpectedly close re-election campaign just two weeks before Election Day. Carson, seeking her sixth term in the 7th District that includes most of Indianapolis, was the pick of 48 percent of those surveyed, with Republican Eric Dickerson supported by 43 percent in WISH-TV Indiana Poll released Monday. Nine percent were undecided in the poll, which has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points. The new poll found the race much tighter than a WISH survey in early September,...

INDIANAPOLIS - Democratic Rep. Julia Carson was in a close race three weeks before Election Day with an underfunded Republican challenger who has raised questions about her years of health problems, according to a new poll. Carson, seeking her sixth term in the 7th District that includes most of Indianapolis, was the pick of 42 percent of those survey, but Republican Eric Dickerson had the support of 45 percent in the poll released Thursday by television station WTHR. Thirteen percent said they were undecided or would vote for someone else. The poll had a margin of error of plus or...

It was the volume of media attention that a candidate hovering at 1 percent in the polls would normally welcome. A stand of microphones and a row of television cameras and reporters awaited David B. Dickerson, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate in Maryland, at a news conference scheduled on his behalf yesterday afternoon in Towson.

...Elevating Judge Roberts to Chief was a logical decision, both politically and on the merits. The Senate and media have been investigating the nominee since July, and have found superlatives with nary a negative. The Judge is in a position to be rapidly confirmed.... More importantly, what we have learned about Judge Roberts suggests that he shares Chief Justice Rehnquist's judicial philosophy. If Mr. Bush now follows with the nomination of an equally distinguished conservative for the Court's second opening, the Roberts Court will be able to continue the legal restoration that the late Chief Rehnquist began.... That historic mission...

A federal judge in Washington yesterday lifted a contempt order and the threat of jail against a Time magazine reporter after he submitted to questioning by a special prosecutor who is investigating the disclosure of a covert C.I.A. officer's identity to the columnist Robert Novak and other journalists. The reporter, Matthew Cooper, was questioned in a two-hour deposition about his contacts with I. Lewis Libby, chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, but only after Mr. Libby's lawyer assured Mr. Cooper's lawyer that Mr. Libby had waived a confidentiality agreement with the reporter. The deposition was given on Monday...

Lawmakers Attack Violent Video Games Tue Jul 6, 3:28 PM ET By NICK WADHAMS, Associated Press Writer NEW YORK - The video game industry seems to delight in pushing the envelope — and the bounds of good taste — with ever-gorier content. That has put it under renewed attack from legislators and activists who claim some titles must be kept out of kids' hands, though courts have repeatedly granted games First Amendment protections. The opponents cite new research that they say suggests strong links between violent games and aggressive behavior. They are disturbed by games' cultural ubiquity and the always-improving...
