There are no Michelin stars on the door, but you will not find a better breakfast in New York City than at the Bel Aire Diner in Astoria, Queens. The coffee, a lighter roast than Starbucks' and brewed three gallons at a time, is always fresh because just about every customer gets a refill or three. The Greek Breakfast entrée is a masterpiece of the line cook's art, a combination of eggs (any style), feta cheese, soft black olives and grilled fresh tomatoes whose juice seasons the toasted pita. The Bel Aire is run under the glare of Argyris "Archie"...

Seattle may be home for tech giants Amazon and Microsoft, but Google Glass isn't welcome in one local diner. Nick Starr, a network engineer, found this out the hard way after wearing Glass to Lost Lake Lounge last week. (Via Facebook / Nick Starr) After being seated, Starr writes, "A woman who works there comes up to us and tells me that the owner's other restaurant doesn't allow Google Glass and that I would have to either put it away (it doesn't fold up btw) or leave." (Via Facebook / Nick Starr) The two then reportedly had a back-and-forth....

Edged out by corn dogs and chocolate-dipped bacon, one of the few remaining church dining halls at the fairgrounds is calling it quits. File this one under E, for End-of-an-Era. Or at least the beginning of the end. When the State Fair opens for its 148th year next Thursday, it's going to be the last season for the Epiphany Diner. The landmark dining hall, operated by the Church of the Epiphany in Coon Rapids and one of the fair's three remaining church-run operations, is closing up shop after this year's fair. Its space will be used for tasting Minnesota wines....

A diner was left fuming after a KFC restaurant took his favourite meal off the menu because it breached their new halal regulations. Alan Phillips was told he would have to travel five miles to another branch if he wanted the Big Daddy, a chicken burger, topped with bacon, cheese and salad. The branch, in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, is one of 86 KFC restaurants which is running trials of a scheme where they sell nothing other than halal meat. The company has taken the burger off the menu because Islamic dietary law forbids Muslims to eat anything which has been prepared...

Diner. Great flick. Great quote: “You know what word I’m not comfortable with? Nuance. It’s not a real word. Like gesture. Gesture’s a real word. With gesture you know where you stand. But nuance? I don’t know. Maybe I’m wrong. “ Liberals like the idea of nuance. John Kerry was superior to Bush because he was more “nuanced.” Now Obama’s positions are more informed than McCain’s because Barry is more “nuanced.” (Or so says Andrea Mitchell.) Of course the corollary to that, not explicitly stated, but implied to those knowing, intelligent, lefty viewers, is that the conservative base (in the...

Paul also must pay Kern's Kitchen's attorney fees and costs. "I am disappointed with the judge's ruling and I accept it," Paul said today. "Our proof was considerably different than Derby...

Health food inspectors who were called out to the restaurant found the kitchen was infested with cockroaches and ordered the property to be closed until it could be fumigated. When Goldman Sachs, Wall Street's most powerful investment bank, decided to build itself a new skyscraper it also planned a fast new road to its door. It reckoned, though, without Andy Diakos and the thousands of customers who eat at his old-fashioned Flamingo diner, which stood in the path of the proposed road. In an upset tagged the Big Fat Greek Diner for its echoes of the hit film My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the local authorities last week prevented the demolition of the Flamingo. Instead, they told the bank that its 6,000 besuited employees who are to occupy the...
