I had not been to visit the main Navy website for several months, so it was surprising to find that none of my Navy history bookmarks work anymore. Unfortunately, all links in my collection of Navy bookmarks point to http://www.navy.mil and http://www.history.navy.mil. Attempts to browse to the site return a "DNS lookup error". (Army.mil and af.mil still work.) BTW, all of the links at the Navy recruiting site -- http://www.navy.com/sitesofinterest/ -- also point to navy.mil. All google searches on Navy topics seem to bring up navy.mil. Does anyone know if the address has changed? Or if there is a redirect...

Six years in the making and at a cost of nearly $500 million, a satellite Internet service for rural America now has an official launch date. Denver-based WildBlue Communications announced plans Thursday to roll out its high-speed Internet service on June 2, with Strasburg as the company's first market. A Strasburg couple with two teenage sons, a Dell computer and 26-inch satellite dish has signed on as WildBlue's first subscriber. Theresa Tuttle says it's "simply awesome" that her family will soon be able to surf the information highway as quickly as any city slicker with a DSL line. Husband...

In the aftermath of its failed merger with Echostar, Hughes Electronics says it is looking to get out of its DirecWay satellite Internet service. "Satellite delivered Internet is a costly business model and we would only be able to continue in this business if the merger had gone through," said George Jamison, Hughes spokesman. He noted that DirecWay "loses money," and that while strategic decisions concerning the future of the DirecWay service have not been made, they "will in the not-so-distant future." "The challenge for DirecWay is the upfront hardware costs and the monthly service charges make it tough...

Envisioned by cellular pioneer Craig McCaw, backed by Bill Gates — and financed in part by their bottomless wealth — the idea of delivering high-speed Internet via a constellation of satellites seemed almost a sure thing. But after 12 years of management changes, network design revisions and most recently, telecommunications industry turmoil, the vision of an Internet-in-the-sky has come crashing down to Earth. Teledesic's board has halted work by a contractor building two satellites, effectively putting the ambitious idea into deep hibernation. "Obviously by suspending work on the contract, the board of Teledesic is saying, as we see it...

Is anyone using Pegasus/Direcway two-way satellite internet access? I'd like to know more about it but can't find a dealer with a demo set up.
