Mason Finley, Buena Vista High School senior, smashed the national high school discus record by more than two feet Saturday during the High Altitude Challenge in Alamosa. Finley threw 236-feet 6-inches, out-distancing the 2001 record set at 234-feet 4-inches by Niklas Arrheniusor of Orem, Utah. Finley surpassed the Colorado record and his personal best April 20 during the Gunnison Invitational with a throw of 223-feet 4-inches, but April 23 during the Buena Vista Invitational he threw the disc 214 feet. He has signed to compete on the University of California Los Angeles track team next season.
