Slipping in polls under an onslaught of attacks, Republican presidential contender Newt Gingrich promises to wage a sharper and more aggressive campaign in the final two weeks before Iowa kicks off the party's nominating race. Gingrich says he will be quicker to respond to attacks and more agile in getting his message across to voters who may have lost faith in him after rivals launched a withering barrage of criticism of his past as a Washington insider. A 44-stop bus tour in the run-up to the January 3 Iowa caucus, daily calls with supporters to respond to new criticisms and...

Terrified Democrats moved into full attack mode against Herman Cain on Sunday. Politico reported “two women” in the 1990s “accused Herman Cain of inappropriate behavior.” The accusations are thus far vague, non-sourced, unsubstantiated, and reminiscent of the viscous Democratic attacks on Clarence Thomas. Herman Cain came out on top in the Des Moines Register poll released Saturday night. The Hill reported, Businessman Herman Cain and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are the front-runners for the Republican presidential nomination in Iowa, according to a Des Moines Register poll released Saturday night. Cain, who has shot to the top of national polls...

President Obama gave an impassioned, sometimes eloquent, defense of his policies in Libya tonight. But when it came to justifying the limited goals of the military mission, his speech was fundamentally dishonest. Obama presented himself as standing between two extremes — those on the one hand, who want to do nothing in the face of a humanitarian catastrophe, and those on the other who want to invade Libya the way George W. Bush invaded Iraq.... This is a straw man, and the president knows it. No serious person is arguing that we should “repeat in Libya” what we did in...

GOTCHA government is profoundly unAmerican, but it’s what we get from the Obama Administration and the previous Congress that, it turns out, rigged the health reform law to deny the will of the people. The current Congress must act to un-do this heinous feature of the massive health reform bill that has come to light only recently. This past week, the conservative Heritage Foundation highlighted this scam recently uncovered by the Congressional Research Service. Here’s the dirty doing: Hidden quietly inside the 2,700-page bulk of the health reform bill, unspoken and unknown to virtually all of Congress was a stash of...

Pretending The Union Money Doesn’t Exist Dishonest Politicians Aided By Dishonest Reporting Desperate Democrats have been hyperventilating for the past month over money being spent by corporate and other groups, notably the Chamber of Commerce and Americans for Prosperity, to run campaign commercials. To conservatives, running commercials to attempt to persuade voters in advance of an election is known as “free speech,” and turnabout is fair play after corporate money went heavily for Obama in 2008, but let’s play along here; how much of an advantage does the GOP have here? Well, according to Greg Sargent, the Washington Post’s in-house...

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) on Sunday strongly criticized Feisal Abdul Rauf, the imam seeking to build an Islamic community center and mosque near Ground Zero. “He seems by his actions to be more interested in confrontation than in healing,” Giuliani said on NBC’s "Meet the Press." The former mayor alleged that the plan is hurtful to the vast majority of family members of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks. Giuliani also said the imam has not been transparent about the project’s financing, and cited Rauf’s 2001 comment on CBS’s 60 Minutes that “United States...

You'd think that General Motors Co., having been rescued by U.S. taxpayers, would be more up-front with them. In an ad that has been blanketing the airwaves since last week, General Motors Chairman and chief executive Ed Whitacre boasts that "we have repaid our government loan, in full, with interest, five years ahead of the original schedule." In a press release, Whitacre said GM was able to repay the loans "because more customers are buying vehicles like the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse." Neither the ad nor the press release mentioned that GM repaid its government loan with other government...

During his confirmation more than a year ago, Attorney General Eric Holder failed to notify lawmakers he had contributed to a legal brief dealing with the use of federal courts in fighting terrorism, the Justice Department acknowledged on Wednesday. “The brief should have been disclosed as part of the confirmation process,” Justice Department spokesman Matt Miller said in a statement. “In preparing thousands of pages for submission, it was unfortunately and inadvertently missed.” Still, the “amicus brief,” filed with the Supreme Court in 2004, resonates years later as Holder finds himself defending the handling of some recent terrorism cases, particularly...

Paul Streitz has decided to call Sarah Palin by her real name, because she endorsed John McCain (who is trying to win a fifth term as Senator) and said she will campaign for him. Fanatic Palinites, such as the editors of the misnamed „conservatives4palin.com” website (they should rename it „liberals4palin.com”), lambasted him and called him a “backstabber”. “If Paul Streitz’s support of Governor Palin is contingent upon his agreeing with every decision she makes or her selling out her deeply-held values, that’s unfortunate. While all support is appreciated, the governor has never been for sale. Ask the Alaska establishment, who...

... The WH maintains a massive e-mail list as part of its effort to promote its position on pressing issues. On Thursday, senior adviser David Axelrod used the list to send out a "chain" e-mail asking supporters of health care reforms backed by the administration to forward his rebuttal to criticism circulating on Internet. The mail offered reasons to support Obama's agenda and tried to debunk what the White House decries as myths in the health care debate. ... But some people who received the e-mails directly from the White House forwarded them to FOX News and asked how they...

I was flipping around the dial looking at the coverage of other networks' coverage of the Tea Parties. I happened to catch Rick Sanchez of CNN interviewing a Tea Party organizer. First thing he did was pick out an objectionable sign and make the guy defend it. The sign had a white hand with dollar bills in it handing them to a black hand and the sign read "I'm not your ATM." Second thing he did was show an excerpt from a youtube video that was sourced by Huffpo where a guy was talking some crazy stuff and the girl...

On Friday, the California Air Resources Board will decide whether to adopt its “scoping plan” for the implementation of AB 32, the 2006 anti-global warming law. It requires state energy suppliers to use far more power from cleaner but more costly sources. Given that this would impose unique burdens on California businesses, many observers (including this editorial page) have been skeptical and said a national or international approach to global warming makes more sense. The response from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been that the opposite is true: Far from burdening the economy, the forced transition to new sources of power...

There is new information on the accusations against ACORN, a group that tries to get low income people to vote. Now, more ACORN offices around the U.S. are under investigation after police raided their Las Vegas office. ACORN representatives will tell you this is all politically motivated, because they register people who would tend to vote for democrats. Election officials say they are also registering lots of people, who do not even exist. Since investigators cleaned out their offices during a Tuesday morning raid, ACORN has been working to clean up its image and saying they were identifying registration fraud...

A decade before Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton admitted fudging the truth during the presidential campaign, federal prosecutors quietly assembled hundreds of pages of evidence suggesting she concealed information and misled a federal grand jury about her work for a failing Arkansas savings and loan at the heart of the Whitewater probe, according to once-secret documents that detail the internal debates over whether she should have faced criminal charges. Ordinarily, such files containing grand jury evidence and prosecutors' deliberations are never made public. But the estate of Sam Dash, a lifelong Democrat who served as the ethics adviser to Whitewater Independent...

Speaking on C-SPAN's "In Depth" Sunday, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich issued a strong condemnation of President Bill Clinton's character, Clinton's recent comments against Gingrich over the 1998 impeachment and the former president's recent claim that he was always against the war in Iraq. "He is fundamentally dishonest on a routine, regular basis," said Gingrich. "It's just his personality. He tells you the version he needs to be who he is to get through this week. And he just did it in Iowa over whether he used to be against the war in Iraq." Clinton told a crowd...

Jimmy Carter: Paid Jihad Agent When I was working on my first Hollywood movie, Body Double, I turned to director Brian De Palma during a story conference and said: "Brian, what's our character's motivation?" Brian, a great director, cackled, vastly amused, and said: "Robert, there are only two motives that audiences really buy: sex and money." That wise advise has stayed with me and served me well throughout my screenwriting career. Which brings us to former President Jimmy Carter. Everyone is running around trying to figure why he's spending so much time bashing Israel. In a world filled with so...

IAEA: U.S. Report on Iran 'Dishonest' Friday September 15, 2006 4:01 AM By GEORGE JAHN Associated Press Writer VIENNA, Austria (AP) - A recent House of Representatives committee report on Iran's nuclear capability is ``outrageous and dishonest'' in trying to make a case that Tehran's program is geared toward making weapons, a senior official of the U.N. nuclear watchdog has said. The letter, obtained by The Associated Press on Thursday outside a 35-nation board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency, says the report is false in saying Iran is making weapons-grade uranium at an experimental enrichment site, when it...

Tax-cut advocate Grover Norquist has labeled Senator John McCain, and his report last week on a $50,000 contribution by the Choctaw Indian tribe to Norquist's Americans for Tax Relief, "dishonest." In an interview with NewsMax, Norquist also accused McCain of "lying" about ATR's role in the matter and suggested McCain's report is nothing more than political payback. Norquist said McCain has claimed to others that Norquist and Ralph Reed engineered his defeat in the heated 2000 South Carolina presidential primary that pitted the senator against George Bush. Andrea Jones, McCain's press secretary, did not respond to requests seeking comment.

VP Dick Cheney joined the White House attack on critics of the Iraq war Wednesday night when he told a conservative group that senators who had suggested that the Bush administration manipulated prewar intelligence were making "one of the most dishonest and reprehensible charges ever aired in this city." Mr. Cheney, who was the administration's toughest, most persistent advocate for the war in Iraq, depicted the senators as hypocrites swayed by antiwar sentiment and their own political ambitions. "Some of the most irresponsible comments have, of course, come from politicians who actually voted in favor of authorizing force against Saddam...

NYTimes' Editorials About The Corps of Engineers are a bit Dishonest I've been hearing a lot concerning the Army Corps of Engineers and budget cuts that the administration has forced upon them. Yesterday I heard Former Congressman Livingston of Louisiana complain that environmentalists have fought hard to keep all money out of the Corps hands, so I went looking. Yesterday the NYTimes economic (though unqualified) writer Paul Krugman asked: "Second question: Why wasn't more preventive action taken? After 2003 the Army Corps of Engineers sharply slowed its flood-control work, including work on sinking levees. "The corps," an...

I like to remind my Republican friends that the roots of the Brady Campaign are Republican to the core. I do it just to get them backpedaling after some dig about Democrats hating guns. I may also remind them that the original 1993 Assault Weapon Ban amendment could not have passed without Republican votes because eight Democrats voted NO and two of the eight were Nevada Senators Reid and Bryan. I generally think the best of everybody, so I had counted organizations like the Brady Campaign as sincere but illogical and misguided. Gun control folks are well intentioned but wrong....

Hugh Hewitt has posted a challenge to bloggers and others to offer up suggestions on how CBS can pull itself -- and by extension the other dying dinosaurs of the Old Media -- out of its likely fatal ratings spiral. In order to solve a problem, of course, one must first understand what the nature of that problem is. At CBS and the rest of the Old Media the problem is not one of cosmetics but rather one of philosophy and therefore it is not something that can be quickly fixed with a new set or by promoting of the...

"I Gave It Up for Lent"Harry R. OsborneA few years ago about this time of year, a story appeared in the newspaper about a strange occurrence in France. It seems that a thief cornered a man in a dark place. He threatened to slash the man's throat with his knife unless he handed over his money. As the Victim reached for his wallet, the light caught him in such a way that the thief saw his victim was a priest. The robber quickly apologized for his behavior explaining that he was unaware of the fact that he had preyed upon...

Have you ever been issued a "guaranteed" reservation by a hotel? You know the drill: they take a credit card number and tell you that you will be charged for the room if you don't show up. But in return, you comfort yourself with the assumption that your access to an actual room at that particular hotel is "guaranteed" even if you show up at 4 AM. Maybe if you did this, you assumed that it meant that the hotel had already sold the room to you, and that, barring acts of God like a tornado, no matter how late...

No Name Calling Week? 1/12/2005By Warren Throckmorton, Ph.D.Yes, name-calling is wrong. But this event’s sponsors reveal the agenda behind banning it. “There is a special place in hell for people like you!” These words were directed at me by a teacher during this past summer’s National Education Association (NEA) convention in Washington, D.C. This delegate to the NEA convention made his prediction in response to my presence at the NEA’s Ex-Gay Educators’ Caucus booth in the convention exhibit hall. His cheery salutation caught me off-guard given the message of tolerance and acceptance I had been hearing around the exhibit hall....

What Happens When Science and Feminism Become Bedfellows One curious thing about scientific pronouncements is that they often seem to accord more with the spirit of the age than fact and reason. Thus, a Nazi researcher in 1930's Germany would analyze data from only one angle and state, “You see, this vindicates our assertion that the Aryans are the master race.” Now, lest you think that such provincial thinking doesn’t plague our enlightened age, I can assure you, it’s alive and well – only the ends have changed.

Greedy hypocrites January 7th, 2005 The recent disparagement of American aid efforts to help tsunami victims as “stingy” by Jan Egeland, Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs at the United Nations, is merely the latest in a series of anti-American words and actions by Norway and Norwegians. While one might generously characterize some of these actions as merely the typical left-wing carping of self-styled “humanitarians,” or as the by-product of good intentions gone awry, a closer analysis reveals that a prime motivation of this disproportionate hostility might be based on that oldest of human failings: greed. Recent history indicates that the...

CHERRY HILL, N.J. She would then begin the process of leaving the Guard, Klepp said. The woman told The Oregonian newspaper she met the alleged attacker Aug. 8 at...

MADISON, United States (AFP) - Rock icon Bruce Springsteen sent megastar wattage surging through John Kerry (news - web sites)'s White House campaign, whipping up a crowd of least 80,000 people at a rocking rally in swing state Wisconsin. "The Boss," famed for hits including "Born in the USA," said Kerry had lived his country's history for 50 years, and painted him as true guardian of the gritty working folk and American fables that people his songs. Thousands of spectators packed balconies on neat wooden houses along a mile-long stretch of road climbing up the Midwest state's white Capitol, packed...

A blogger on the official John Kerry campaign Web site has offered a telling insight into the Kerry campaign in her account (since removed) of a December campaign party. "We had 200 guests eating, drinking, and watching the MoveOn documentary 'Uncovered,' featuring Joseph Wilson and Rand Beers from the Kerry campaign," wrote blogger Pamela Leavey, describing a Kerry event that did not include John Kerry himself. WASHINGTON, 20 October 2004 — Because I have been repeatedly asked the question, “For whom will you vote and why?” Let me use this opportunity to respond. This November, I will vote for John Kerry for president of the United States. I will do so, confident that it is the right thing to do for my country and my community. Now this doesn’t mean that I agree with all of John Kerry’s positions. I’m a Democrat, but I’ve always challenged my party and its leadership when it was important to do so. Over the past two decades I’ve helped to...

Little Johny Edwards, ambulance chaser and loser, has promised that if "Viet Cong" Kerry is elected, Christopher Reeve would be able to walk. This from an un-Christian bunch who disregard the teachings of their own churches while claiming to be believers. Thus, Kerry believes in abortion (or at least, SAYS he does) while claiming to belong to a church that rejects abortion. That is flip-flopping, having a foot in both camps!Edwards states that Kerry would do a miracle and make Reeves walk, a medical miracle. What has not been reported is that Edwards has promised that Kerry will miraculously cure several...

Debatable Debate Impressions, Part II Edwards – More than a Pretty Face? by Bob Redman (7 Oct. 2004) In my article about the first debate between Bush and Kerry I enumerated eleven of the many cheap shots which Kerry made. During the vice-presidential debate on Tuesday evening, Edwards repeated and/or elaborated on the cheap shots, and added some of his own. A detailed analysis of the whole tissue of obfuscation would run to several pages which most of you wouldn’t read to the end. I therefore content myself with the elucidation of only one of Edward’s trial lawyers' devices which...
