    Keith Richards was facing seven years in prison in 1977 for a massive drug bust at his Toronto hotel room. The night before he was sentenced, he headed to Toronto's Interchange Studios and recorded several songs he'd learned from his late friend Gram Parsons. The highlight was "Sing Me Back Home," a ballad Merle Haggard wrote about his time at San Quentin. For our upcoming issue, Richards spoke with Rolling Stone about his appreciation for Haggard, who died earlier this month, who he calls "one of the great country singers of all time and a hell of a guitar player."I...

    If you only watch one heart-warming, warm-and-fuzzy, inspirational, feel-good holiday movie this season, make it this one. Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors airs at 8 p.m. today on NBC and continues the tradition established by such country-themed bio-pics as Walk the Line (Johnny Cash) and Coal Miner's Daughter (Loretta Lynn). Whereas those films took a broader perspective on the lives of their country legends, this offering concentrates on a seminal period in young Dolly's life -- her hardscrabble but loving childhood in rural Tennessee that inspired the famous hit song from which the movie takes it name. Many viewers...

    This year marks the 50th Anniversary since 68-year-old international icon Dolly Parton came to Nashville. The fourth of 12 siblings who shared a one-room cabin, the East Tennessee native was so poor growing up that her father paid the doctor who delivered her with a bag of cornmeal. The day after her high school graduation, Parton left the Smoky Mountains for Music City, where she shepherded her career from singing on The Porter Wagoner Show, a syndicated music-variety series that aired from 1960 to 1981, to winning seven Grammys and scoring 25 No. 1 songs on Billboard's Hot Country Songs...

    "A few years ago a British Dolly Parton fan played a 45 rpm vinyl single of Dolly Parton's Jolene at 33 rpm and posted the results on the interweb. The video (since removed) became a viral hit, not because it was funny but because the slowed-down version sounded good, and was a bit of a revelation; at the very least, it exposed the incredible rhythmic precision and soulfulness of Parton's phrasing, which can't always be limned when she's trilling and warbling at breakneck speed....." \ .....;

    LOS ANGELES — Miley Cyrus may have garnered a host of headlines for her cutout ensemble at the MuchMusic Video Awards last month, but Dolly Parton has nothing but praise for the teen sensation. "If you think I'm going to sit here and pass judgment on Miley, you're wrong," Parton told Access Hollywood earlier this week when asked about Cyrus' outfit from the event. "I think she's beautiful. I love her. She's trying to grow up, you know, I remember when I was horny and young." "When you were what?" Access asked. "Horny and young," Parton repeated. "I'm still horny!"

    When Dolly Parton speaks people listen. At least that's what opponents to an upcoming Federal Communications Commission vote on opening up "white space" spectrum hope. Earlier this week, country western star Dolly Parton sent a letter to the FCC asking the agency to delay its vote to open up the unused spectrum for unlicensed use. LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Country-singer Dolly Parton has postponed an upcoming US tour due to a back injury -- and she reckons her legendary bust size might have something to do with it. Parton, 62, said in a statement on her website Monday that doctors had advised her to take six to eight weeks off to recover, forcing her to shelve the start of a tour due to get underway on February 28. The tour was due to coincide with the release of Parton's new album "Backwoods Barbie" later this month. "I know I have been breaking my neck...

    Dolly Parton's breasts may be two of the wonders of the entertainment world, but the country music icon says they are a pain in her back. Parton, 62, said on Monday she would postpone her upcoming North American tour after doctors told her to take it easy for six to eight weeks to rest her sore back. "Hey, you try wagging these puppies around a while and see if you don't have back problems," the folksy singer-songwriter said in a statement. The tour was due to begin on February 28 in Minneapolis, two days after the release of "Backwoods Barbie,"...

    Excerpt - NEW YORK - Porter Wagoner looks right at home in the marble lobby of Manhattan's Roosevelt Hotel. He wears a dark Western suit and tie and holds a shiny black cane. The glare from the crystal chandelier reflects off his eyeglasses as he tilts his head back, trying to remember the last time he played Madison Square Garden. Sometime in the '70s ... one of those package tours ... Little Jimmie Dickens and Faron Young were there ... some others he can't recall ... Last year's American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood, has a record out that has been dominating the country music charts for weeks: "Jesus, Take the Wheel." It tells the story of a young woman's desperate prayer during a car crash, leading to a reflection on her own life. The song ends with a prayer for Jesus to "save me from this road I'm on." Finally knocking off "Jesus, Take the Wheel" as the No. 1 record was Brad Paisley's "When I Get Where I'm Going." Where he is going is heaven, where he yearns to see his loved ones. At the...
