Cindy McCain, the wife of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), appears in a new ad for a campaign geared towards ending the bullying of gay youth and promoting equality for members of the LGBT community. In the ad, McCain parts ways with her husband on whether to repeal the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. McCain joins a variety of celebrities, including Kat Von D, Denise Richards and Gene Simmons among others, in calling for an end to bullying of homosexuals. "Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future," she says. "They can't serve our country...

WASHINGTON -- Following a survey of U.S. troops and their families, a Pentagon study group has concluded the military can lift the ban on gays serving openly in uniform with only minimal and isolated incidents of risk to the current war efforts, The Washington Post reported Wednesday. The newspaper quoted two people familiar with a draft of the study, which is to be completed for Defense Secretary Robert Gates by Dec. 1., but with an uncertain public release date. More than 70 percent of respondents to a survey sent to active-duty and reserve troops over the summer said the effect...

The results of this week’s US mid-term elections do not bode well for either US domestic or international politics. The good news is that the Tea Party movement did not do quite as well as anticipated, with fewer than 40 of its 140 or so endorsed candidates winning their way to Washington. The bad news is that, judged on their record so far, 40-odd Tea Party candidates can cause plenty of damage to the fabric of the US’ democracy, especially now the Republican Party has wrested back the majority in the lower house. This is a movement that claims to...

One of the top priorities of the coming lame duck session of Congress will be the formal repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," aka U.S. Code Title 10, Section 654. Obama won't have another chance to shove it through before 2012, and he wants the gay community on his side then. He will probably also want to repeal Article 125 - Sodomy in the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Read at least the "Findings" part of Section 654 before you go any further. It contains a good summary of the logic that was used at the time that "Don't...

A majority of active-duty and reserve service members surveyed by the Defense Department would not object to serving and living alongside openly gay troops, according to multiple people familiar with the findings. The survey's results are expected to be included in a Pentagon report, due to President Obama on Dec. 1, regarding how the military would end enforcement of the "don't ask, don't tell" law that bans openly gay men and lesbians from serving in uniform. Some troops surveyed - but not a majority - objected strongly to the idea of serving with gays and said they would quit the...

WEST HOLLYWOOD -- Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer is reaching out to gay and lesbian voters by emphasizing her support for marriage equality and her record opposing the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. She told about 60 supporters Wednesday at a West Hollywood community center that she had the courage of her convictions to oppose "don't ask, don't tell from the start."

Since Juan Williams was so easily and summarily fired by NPR for feeling "nervous" aboard airplanes with Moslems, I had to ask myself would I feel uncomfortable sitting on a plane next to a transvestite man in spandex hotpants, wearing high heals, lipstick and way too much cheap perfume? The answer is that NPR would have to fire me. Mark Levin asked, "Why, when conservatives raise doubts about gay activism, its a wedge issue, but not a wedge issue when the gay lobby pushes its agenda?" ParaphrasedWhether its forcing the military to accommodate sodomy as the result of one gay...

WASHINGTON — A federal appeals court on Wednesday temporarily stalled the landmark court decision allowing openly gay recruits to be accepted into the military. In response to an emergency request from the government, a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco issued a one-page order allowing the Pentagon to continue enforcing the "don't ask, don't tell" law, which bars openly gay, lesbian and bisexual service members. The decision returns the law to the status quo before a U.S. District Court judge in California prohibited its enforcement. It will be in effect while the court...

The United States Military has performed superbly in Iraq and Afghanistan, demonstrating unprecedented courage and ingenuity in the war against islamic terrorists. A major characteristic of America's military is the bedrock of Judeo-Christian beliefs and heritage, which maintains unit cohesiveness, which in turn translates into combat effectiveness. Now, liberal extremists, backed by a single activist judge, a Clinton appointee, are trying to inject homosexuals into the ranks of America's fighting forces. This is something that our troops strongly object to. This is the same homosexual lobby which is attempting, through a judicial fiat, to undo what 31 States (out of...

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -A federal judge is expected to rule Tuesday on a government request to delay her order halting the military from enforcing its ban on openly gay troops — a request she has said she'll probably deny. U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips said Monday she would review the arguments from Justice Department lawyers. "My tentative ruling is to deny the application for a stay," Phillips said at the start of Monday's hearing.

The enthusiastic Virginia Phillips, US District Court judge in Riverside, California, yesterday enjoined the Department of Defense to cease enforcing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) forthwith. The US Justice Department had appealed her September ruling that the law is unconstitutional, but Phillips issued her injunction pending higher court action. It’s not clear that, as a federal district judge, she even has the authority to do this. The whole case, which was brought originally by the Log Cabin Republicans, has reeked of bad-law exceptionalism. What standing the LCR had to bring the suit in the first place is a very good...

With three weeks left until election day, it's highly unlikely Democrats in Washington will take up any gay rights issues before there is a new balance of power in the capitol. Gay rights activists, however, are intent on reminding President Obama and his party that they're not satisfied with what's been accomplished so far. The president was attending a Democratic fundraiser in Miami last night, held in the back yard of NBA star Alonzo Mourning's 12,000-square-foot mansion, when air horns could be heard blaring across the water, according to pool reports of the event. The noise was reportedly not loud...

As questions abound about why Asher Brown, a 13-year-old public school student in Houston, might have taken his own life, CNN's Anderson Cooper and the gay lobby have both rushed in to capitalize on one of the boy's grieving parents' many claims, that the cause of his death is bullying by students because he was gay. Key points of information are being ignored in the mad rush to point to anti-gay bullying and to the school's alleged failure to address it. State legislators' phones are already lighting up as the gay lobby uses Asher Brown to petition for legislation not...

www.catholicnewsagency.com Catholic congressman receives homosexual group’s award for opposing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Congressman Joseph Cao (R-La.) Washington D.C., Sep 27, 2010 / 08:12 pm (CNA).- Congressman Joseph Cao (R-La.), a self-described “proud co-sponsor” of a bill ending a policy against open homosexuals in the military, has received an award from the Log Cabin Republicans. He told the group that his Catholic faith and Jesuit background helped drive his support to change the ban.The stance of Rep. Cao, who has previously cited his faith as a justification for other political positions, contradicts that of the Archbishop of the Archdiocese...

27 Sep MILINET: DoD Request For DADT Comments Anthony, The Defense Department Comprehensive Review Working Group studying the impact of repealing “don’t-ask-don’t-tell” has stated “they seek to get the widest range of viewpoints from both within and outside the Defense Department.” I take that to mean that the opinions of those of us on the retired list and other veterans would be accepted although they do not seem to be actively sought. Would expect that those on the MILNET circuit would have some pertinent comments. The address of the group is: Comprehensive Review Working Group 1600 Defense Pentagon Washington, DC...
