A number of years ago, I was on Larry King Live and was asked point blank if I had a problem with the appointments of Justices Roberts and Alito (both areRoman Catholics). My answer was very clear that I did not, as long as they shared my own conviction of upholding the Constitution - not trying to rewrite it - and as long as they were committed to the biblical values of the Founding Fathers. I was certain that both men were. Many people today are quoting a statement reputedly made by Martin Luther, the great reformer, that he "would...

Get outtaheah, yabum! Get a job! That used to be the standard American answer to folks like the Occu-pishers of Wall Street. If you've ever wondered what "enfant terrible" means, check out the pics of the Progs, heroically pooping on the American flag. This is not a one-time incident. They keep doing the same thing. But then -- think about the U.S. soldiers who are risking their lives this very minute in the badlands of Afghanistan. What are they thinking? What effect does Obama's endorsement of the Progs have on their morale? Would you risk your life for people who...

By the mid-1960s, all hell had broken loose in the American education system, most obviously in the universities that were at the center of the Vietnam War protest movement, but more subtly in the public school system as well. And since the universities that were exploding with radical ideologies in the 1960s were also the furnace in which future educators were forged — there was an inevitable long-term effect on what teachers taught their students about American traditions, values and beliefs. The anti-American fervor on college campuses during the Vietnam era was the fuel that led teachers to give up...

John Boyd is the president of the National Black Farmer’s Association and has been the main media face of the Pigford settlement for over a decade. He’s been featured on numerous TV shows and in print. He’s been lauded by members of the Congressional Black Caucus and often appears beside them in public appearences. He’s been recognized by President Obama and was present at the private signing ceremony when the Pigford II settlement was signed. Here’s a question that should be simple to answer — does he actually have a doctorate that allows him to refer to himself in professional...

In Robert Louis Stevenson's famous novella about the duality of human nature, a minor character describes Mr. Hyde thus: "There is something wrong with his appearance; something displeasing, something down-right detestable. I never saw a man I so disliked." It is difficult to avoid similar feelings of revulsion watching the C-SPAN video of Dr. Donald Berwick's alter ego testifying at the February 10 hearing of the House Ways and Means Committee. His disingenuous opening remarks, evasive answers, and transparent contempt for congressional oversight revealed Obama's recess-appointed administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) as a grotesque changeling. Gone...

When Jack Kevorkian came to the nation’s attention in the 1990s, reporters at first depicted him — correctly — as a macabre and megalomaniacal promoter of death. But he was remade into a popular icon, becoming a pet guest on 60 Minutes, treated to uncharacteristically softball interviews by Mike Wallace and fawned over by Andy Rooney, and then declared by Time magazine to be one of the major “celebrities” of the 1990s. Time even invited him to their 75th anniversary gala as a star guest. You knew the world was spinning the wrong way when Tom Cruise rushed up

"Audacity of Arrogance" applies to both of our U.S. Senators, but for opposite reasons. John Hopkins cites Barack Obama's inexperience as justification for that apt description. In Sen. Richard Durbin's case, he feels so entrenched in his position (Senate Majority Whip) that he is untouchable. Consider the following examples of his arrogant behavior that have been unsupportive and unresponsive to the needs of the country and of the State of Illinois. The medical community in the state of Illinois has been decimated by the abuse of medical malpractice litigation, especially with the loss of at least 170 physicians from Madison...

Transcription from radio/internet broadcast: Pro-life advocates are decrying a grisly new outrage in Europe: Face lifts and cosmetic surgery using tissue from aborted babies are being offered at clinics in places such as Moscow and Rotterdam, and women from around the globe are flocking. In many cases women in third world nations are being paid up to $200.00 US to carry babies up to 12 weeks of pregnancy, when the unborn children are aborted and sold to the cosmetic clinics. An increasing number of these facilities are now springing up in popular vacation spots including Barbados and the Dominican Republic...

HH: John Zogby, welcome to the Hugh Hewitt Show. JZ: Hi, how are you? HH: Good. John, your poll has created quite a lot of controversy out of Iraq. Who paid for it? JZ: It was a gentleman who is a very wealthy individual who is anti-war, but he had absolutely no influence on any of the questions at all. He just simply wanted to know how do the troops feel? We have released the questions to everyone. The questions were very benign and objective. We're not accustomed to doing anything any other way. HH: Has he commissioned polls from...

Sometimes you get to wondering about emails you receive -- especially in the political blogsphere. One email which ended up in my inbox has got me to thinking: Is this a legitimate email, a plea for help from genuine Iranian dissidents, some crazy rant/fatwa by Islamists, or yet another in a string of Internet scams? I've been receiving emails over the last month from "goftare nik" (moslem11@gmail.com) which is addressed to hamahd19@yahoo.com, a mailing list which must somehow contain my own email address. The subject line of the email is "(( raahbare mellate iran agha pro.ebrahim mirzaie))," which obviously pertains...

11/1/2005 - WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (AFPN) -- With November being American Indian Heritage Month, I reminisce about a very special World War II veteran whose tour of duty played a very integral role in American military history. In February 2002, I had the distinct honor of meeting a Navajo Code Talker who was also the first Navajo Indian to receive a doctorate degree. I didn't just accidentally meet Dr. Samuel Billison. I looked him up on the Internet and invited him to come to my daughter's elementary school for our 6th Annual Cultural Diversity Assembly. That year was...

My girlfriend has asked me to do some research on the "legit" or "bogus" undertakings of Dr. Andrew Weil via his Weil Foundation. The basic story is that she was impressed all of his "after-tax" profits go to his foundation. I remarked that was a nice way to pay yourself a lump sum (gotta pay the SG&A) without looking like a greedy, capitalist pig. After browsing Google for a bit, I'm not finding any substantial detail, just the usual "rah rah rah" stuff. Anyone already know about this character and his foundation? Your information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dr. Coburn's Statement on Nomination of John Roberts to U.S. Supreme Court (WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) today released the following statement regarding President Bush’s nomination of John Roberts to the United States Supreme Court. “It is imperative that the next Supreme Court justice help restore the Constitutional balance of power between the branches of government and leave legislating to Congress and the states,” Dr. Coburn said. ”Judge Roberts is entitled to a thorough, fair and civil confirmation process. I look forward to the opportunity to interview Judge Roberts and I support the right of Senators...

Coburn slams 'improper' grants Sen. Tom Coburn (R) Muskogee, said he was the lone vote against the Homeland Security Department spending bill this week because it funded questionable grants in some lawmakers home states and didn't include enough money to fight illegal immigration. "Congress undermines our Homeland security when we fail to prioritize spending based on actual risks, and when we fail to secure our borders." "Homeland security dollars should be prioritized based on the greatest terrorism risk facing our country. Unforunately too many members of Congress are putting their political security ahead of Homeland Security" Coburn said improper uses...

This is a transcript of Senator Coburn's remarks on Fox and Friends. Doocy: Good Morning Senator. Its a pleasure to have you here. Coburn: Its a pleasure to be here Steve. Doocy: Ok we brought you on here to discuss the Supreme Court situation. What do you think? Coburn: I believe its the Presidents prerogative. You know its like one of my Democrat colleages in the House said. If you want to nominate judges to the Supreme Court you need to win the Presidency. The demand for input is just that. Its a demand. There is nothing constitutional about it....

The House Judiciary Committee chairman introduced a bill to clamp down on illegal aliens' use of driver's licenses and to give judges more discretion to deny claims of asylum, beginning the new Congress' first fight over immigration. Hours after President Bush called for action on his guest-worker program, which would give illegal aliens now in the country temporary legal status, Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner Jr. introduced a bill to clamp down on illegal aliens' ability to live and work under the radar by restricting their ability to obtain and use driver's licenses. "American citizens have the right to...

Rice faces big test with Senate hearings Tough questioning expected this week By James Brosnan SCRIPPS HOWARD January 16, 2005 WASHINGTON – National security adviser Condoleezza Rice, who in college feared she was destined to play show tunes in a piano bar, faces a demanding gig next week before climbing another rung up from the segregation of her childhood in Alabama. On the eve of President Bush's inauguration Thursday, his nominee for secretary of state is expected to face tough questions at Senate confirmation hearings about her own credibility and administration policies in Iraq, where more than 1,300 U.S. service...

Sen. Hollings: A Feisty Farewell Dec. 10, 2004 Sen. Ernest "Fritz" Hollings tells Mike Wallace that America’s lawmaking system is addicted to money. "[Special interests] get their piece of the pie. That's our problem. Today, you can't find the real interests of the country." Sen. Fritz Hollings (CBS) South Carolina Sen. Fritz Hollings has long been known as the tartest tongue in the Senate. But now, this feisty senator is giving up his seat. He didn't lose it, and a younger Republican didn't defeat him. But after 38 years, he just decided enough's enough. He says the Senate has changed...

I posted the thread here....with the promise of an update! Well here it is! Guys I am so excited because last night we had over 300 people show up for our first college republicans meeting here at OSU. (Oklahoma State) Dr. Tom Coburn..candidate for US Senate came and spoke. I will have more pictures to add to this thread soon..that I took. But for now..notice the Republican flag behind Dr. Coburn? That came from my room! We used it to decorate! Dr. Coburn is quite blunt. He reminds me a lot of Zell Miller. He answered every question asked. And...

Wired magazine reported recently: "[Mike] Lazzo's trademark is bringing dead toons back to life. He got his big break when he created the cult hit Space Ghost Coast to Coast in 1994 by splicing new celebrity interviews into old animated footage. Last year, Futurama and Family Guy reruns did so well that it's likely both shows (which Fox killed in prime time) will produce new episodes."

Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of captivity. But one hundred years later, we must face the tragic fact that the Negro is still not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years...

Dr David Kelly predicted he would be "found dead in the woods" if Iraq was invaded, months before his apparent suicide, the Hutton Inquiry has heard. Foreign Office official David Broucher said Dr Kelly had made what he thought to be the "throwaway" remark in February. Mr Broucher said he met the weapons expert in Geneva. Dr Kelly had told him that continued inspections "properly carried out would give a degree of certainty about compliance" with UN disarmament demands. "He said he had tried to reassure them that if they cooperated with the weapons inspections, they had nothing to fear,"...

I never thought I’d be saying this, but Dr. Phil is my new hero. Although I’m not a talk show fan, on a personal level, I’ve always appreciated his frankness and down-to-earth manners, but up until now, I was unaware of his political views. Well, after Friday’s (4/4) show, I think it’s safe to say that Dr. Phil is on the right side of the fence. I was dreading another depressing panel discussion on Washington Week in Review, so I flipped the channel and just happened to run across a preview for the Dr. Phil show. U.S. military uniforms caught...
