"Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer announced Tuesday that his department will continue undercover bar stings targeting drunken drivers, but some changes were made to the program. The next operation is scheduled for Friday, which is St. Patrick's Day. Police have not yet determined which establishments will be monitored. Dyer said undercover officers will not be positioned inside bars or restaurants. They will only be outside the bars and in parking lots. The chief also said officers — preferably uniformed — will approach people who appear to be intoxicated to dissuade them from driving."

TAMPA - Florida law bars undocumented immigrants from obtaining driver's licenses, but in countless cases that doesn't keep them off the road. Arrests of unlicensed drivers by Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies rose 71 percent from 2001 to 2005. The agency doesn't track how many of those drivers were undocumented, but anecdotal evidence suggests those numbers are rising as more immigrants arrive. A high-profile accident is drawing attention to the issue: A Tampa police detective died in a crash Feb. 25 when one such driver ran a red light and plowed into the detective's city-owned car, the sheriff's office has...

Amid the flurry of big-deal bills whipping around the Capitol - same-sex marriage, driver's licenses for illegal immigrants, regulation of dietary supplements - it's the little ones, too, that bear notice. So here's a heads-up to the 35-year-old Sacramento woman, nailed by the California Highway Patrol last weekend for weaving down K Street, then turning her Volvo the wrong way onto 15th. Apparently too smashed to answer simple questions, the woman also had a suspended driver's license, having been convicted of driving under the influence four times...

Metro is reviewing whether to continue late rail service on Friday and Saturday nights. Officer Mike Inguanta had Pineda perform the usual battery of sobriety tests, which the 27-year-old Chapel Hill man failed miserably.
