Karen Gillan has said that she doubts any future acting role will be more fun than Doctor Who. The actress joined the show in April 2010 as companion Amy Pond alongside the 11th Doctor played by Matt Smith. "It's been so amazing," she told the Evening Standard. "I don't think I will ever have a job quite so fun ever again."

This may be just a vanity post, but I'm really kinda pissed off at Russell T. Davies' portrayal of the US Tea Party in the Torchwood Season 4 series. This season, the series takes place in the US, and is about a conspiracy that prevents everyone in the world from dying. As usual, the series makes (IMHO) good comments on what would happen to society if such an event were to occur. RTD picked some really good US actors for the new roles, and their skill pushes the story along. However, the story now "feels" more like an American drama than...

China has been cracking down on dissent of late, as the recent detainment of artist Ai Weiwei suggests. But the latest guidance on television programming from the State Administration of Radio Film and Television in China borders on the surreal – or, rather, an attack against the surreal. New guidelines issued on March 31 discourage plot lines that contain elements of "fantasy, time-travel, random compilations of mythical stories, bizarre plots, absurd techniques, even propagating feudal superstitions, fatalism and reincarnation, ambiguous moral lessons, and a lack of positive thinking." “The government says … TV dramas shouldn’t have characters that travel back...

Just because you're an American doesn't mean you should have to wait for "Doctor Who." In an effort to stamp out online piracy completely, BBC America says it will air this year's Christmas special the same day actual BBC watchers across the pond get to see it: Christmas Day.
-
It almost sounds right: A Dr. Who Christmas. Maybe because it sounds a lot like A Dr. Seuss Christmas. Or something. But the Brits have decided to take their beloved-but-still-somewhat-confusing-to-Americans character, Dr. Who, and give him a good old fashioned holiday movie, based on the classic A Christmas Carol , written by Steven Moffat, creator of the recent Masterpiece Mystery hit Sherlock, and set to debut on BBC America on Christmas Day. Moffat described his sci-fi holiday mashup this way: “Oh, we’re going for broke with this one. It’s all your favorite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with...

The BBC announced today that season six of Doctor Who, which delivered record ratings for BBC AMERICA earlier this year, will open with a spectacular two-parter set in the U.S. and penned by ‘Who supremo’ Steven Moffat. In the special two-parter co-produced with BBC AMERICA, key scenes will be filmed in Utah for a story set in the late ‘60s in which the Doctor, Amy and Rory find themselves on a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the desert in Utah – right to the Oval Office itself. Production on episodes one and two of the new...

Fright Night was released in 1985, had a few recognizable names as stars, took a decent $25mil (for the time), but only real horror fans recognize it. It wasn’t a great movie, undeserving of the classic status of the other 80’s slasher franchises like Nightmare, Friday, or Halloween. But since those have all been summarily ruined, particularly Nightmare, it’s time that a movie that can be improved upon and changed without offending the delicate sensibilities of too many people get a shot. David Tennant, replacing Roddy McDowall as Peter Vincent. Vincent is a washed-up actor hosting Fright Night, a show...

A casting call sheet for the fourth series of Torchwood has apparently been leaked. The sheet says filming on the ten episode series will begin January 12th 2011. It then reveals details on three key new characters, one of which will be a regular cast member. Character descriptions below. REX MATHEON, CAUCASIAN, Late 20s, CIA agent, a fast-tracked high-flyer. And he knows it! Rex is fast, sharp, smart, clever, and when the situation demands it, ruthless. He’s got a lethal sense of humour – he doesn’t care if he makes enemies, he’s too busy enjoying himself. But when Rex’s life...

Another unreliable source is saying that Matt Smith may already be on his way out as the new Doctor Who. First U.K. bookies lowered the odds of Smith sticking with the show, and now the British tabloid The Sun says Smith wants to leave the show after he completes filming his second series as the Doctor.

To steal a phrase from the Tenth Doctor... What? Sources are reporting that a big screen version of Doctor Who, written by former showrunner Russell T. Davies, is slated for release in 2012. Those same sources are also reporting that Johnny Depp has been confirmed in the iconic role of The Doctor.

She famously battled the Argentine army abroad and the trade unions at home, but she never knew she was also under attack from outer space. Left wing scriptwriters hired by the BBC during the 1980s tried to inspire a 'Tardis revolution' by using Doctor Who as propaganda to undermine Baroness Thatcher. In one series they caricatured the then Prime Minister as a vicious and egotistical alien ruler who banned outward displays of unhappiness among her downtrodden people and used a secret police to oppress dissidents. ......................................................... Doctor Who ratings plunged from a high of 16m, when Tom Baker was the...

When Doctor Who returns this Saturday on BBC America, it's going to be the biggest change in the show since it was re-launched in 2005. Sure, the Doctor has already regenerated once since then (from Christopher Eccleston to David Tennant), but at the time the man behind the show, Russell T. Davies, was still at the helm and companion Billie Piper stuck around, which provided some continuity. With this season's premiere, "The Eleventh Hour," everything is new: from Doctor (Matt Smith) to companion (Karen Gillan as Amy Pond) to executive producer (revered Who writer Steven Moffat).

The highly-anticipated new series of Doctor Who is set to hit screens in a matter of weeks and the trailer for the new show was premiered at an event in Cardiff earlier this week. BBC1's popular sci-fi series sees the debut of new Doctor, Matt Smith and his assistant Karen Gillan, and is likely to follow the success of the previous series which starred David Tennant as the famous Time Lord. The new trailer was screened in Cardiff and promises lots more thrills and spills as well as the return of some of the Doctor's infamous enemies.

I don’t know, I’m thinking the only thing worse than being woken up by the ‘exterminate’ of this Dr Who Dalek Talking Alarm Clock thing, would be if it rolled up to your bed and shoved the sink plunger into your eyeball repeatedly until you made a move for the bathroom. Man, masochism comes in strange shapes nowadays, that’s for certain. $37.15. At 25 centimetres tall, this golden replica of those dastardly Daleks features an alarm clock with LCD display set into the Dalek’s chest. When the alarm goes off, your Dalek’s ears and eyes (we thought they were...

Former Time Lord Sylvester McCoy has sensationally claimed that during his tenancy of the Tardis he and left-wing scriptwriters attempted to overthrow the government of Margaret Thatcher. Both McCoy (pictured) and script editor Andrew Cartmel admitted the sinister scheme, which was hatched when the former filled the Doctor's shoes three months after Thatcher's 1987 third election victory. McCoy recounted: “The idea of bringing politics into Doctor Who was deliberate, but we had to do it very quietly and certainly didn’t shout about it. "We were a group of politically motivated people and it seemed the right thing to do. Our feeling...

“I’m still not ginger,” cried the new Doctor Who after his latest regeneration. But the BBC has insisted that the Time Lord intended this as a statement of regret after it received complaints from viewers. (edit) Angry parents complained to the BBC that the comment, made in an episode seen by 11 million viewers, would encourage bullying of their ginger haired children. But the BBC said that the Doctor was actually disappointed that he had not joined the ginger ranks. The statement read: “We’ve received complaints from viewers who believed a line in Doctor Who: The End of Time was...

This story contains some spoilers for the "Doctor Who" episode "The End of Time, Part 1," that aired Dec. 25 on BBC and Dec. 26 on BBC America. Are some of the things you're hearing about "Doctor Who" post David Tennant, Russell T. Davies and Julie Gardner sounding a little retro to you? Well, that's by design. Steven Moffat is looking to restore the BBC icon to its classic roots that some are describing as an effort to integrate fans of the original "Doctor Who" series. However, others say it's more about what Moffat likes.

It's not even David Tennant's final episode, yet "Doctor Who" is making history for BBC America. "Waters of Mars," the latest "Doctor Who" special that had originally aired at the end of November in the United Kingdom, attracted 1.1 million viewers for BBC America Saturday, marking that cable channel's best primetime numbers ... ever.

While the UK fans of "Doctor Who" have had to wait and experience a new episode every three months, its American fanbase will be able to leap through the final episodes and witness the regeneration in a matter of weeks. BBC America, the carrier for the BBC series "Doctor Who," has confirmed that the final three episodes featuring David Tennant as the legendary Time Lord will commence broadcast a week before Christmas and will co

There are only two more adventures to go before we see David Tennant pass on his sonic screwdriver to Matt Smith. The first part of "The End Of Time" is scheduled to be a darker festive adventure for UK viewers as it takes on the traditional primetime slot on Christmas Day.

The jury is still out on whether Matt Smith will be accepted as the new Doctor. On the one hand, David Tennant is a name that has become firmly established in the cultural vernacular that anyone following in his footsteps would struggle. Then again, Matt Smith is just one of many changes being made to the show which is now in the hands of Steve Moffat, a man that many fans consider to be the best writer of the re-vitalised series.

"Doctor Who's" star may have said goodbye to the Tardis, but he still feels a deep pang of sadness at leaving what he describes as "the best job in the world." However, the series is in good hands with Steve Moffat taking over control of the show and introducing a new Doctor for an even newer generation of fans.

As he prepares to step into the role of Doctor Who, Matt Smith is just months away from becoming a major star, continuously stalked by the paparazzi, Whovians, et al. But, for now, he is keeping a low profile in the French Riviera, as he promotes the short film Together, which opened Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday. The 26-year-old star has bundles of charm. I am under strict instructions not to ask questions about the new series of Doctor Who (his agent hovers close by, growling), so I try a leftfield approach: No, he did not...

Volunteer Marc Oakland was stunned when he pulled the head of a Dalek from the murky depths of a pond he was helping to clean. The 42-year-old sales executive found part of Doctor Who’s arch nemesis as he pushed a rake along the surface while wading waist-high in water. He said: ‘I’d just shifted a tree branch with my foot when I noticed something dark and round slowly coming up to the surface. ‘I got the shock of my life when a dalek head bobbed up right in front of me.’ ... ‘After doing some research, we discovered the BBC...

(edit)Although the programme was on Radio 1, pictures were also relayed to online listeners via a webcam. And while Barrowman's genitalia were not actually shown, the crude comments which accompanied the incident made it clear what had happened.(edit) Grimshaw said: 'You're famous, we're told, for getting your willy out in interviews. Is this going to happen today? Should Annie be careful?' Barrowman asked: 'Is the webcam on?' When told it was, he declared: 'All right, I'll get it out for you then, no problem.' The webcam had been swiftly covered up but listeners heard Annie Mac screaming: 'Oh my God!'...
