Joan Wire is the stalwart wife of Mike Wire. Perhaps it's time to recolonize the Middle East. If we get our NATO allies and Russia together with us on the same page and invade the entire Muslim Middle East and re-establish European run colonial governments, we could save a lot of money on oil and put an end to government sponsored terrorism. Together, this alliance would have 90% of the world's military might. Without the mother's milk of oil revenue, it will be far more difficult fot terrorists to obtain the financing for nuclear weapon development or purchase. Russia could administer Iran, France could administer Syria, Britain could administer...

Blame Bush, not liberals -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My friend Joseph Farah is 100 percent right that the Supreme Court ruling against homeowners and their property is an outrage. But as I read on the WND website the usual accusations about "activist judges" and "liberals," I wonder if conservatives could just step back for a second and look at what has really happened. It seems to me this ruling is more an example of pandering to big business, rather than an example of liberal philosophy. Dude, Where's My Intellectual Honesty? In his latest book Dude, Where's My Country? -- a polemic against President Bush -- liberal gadfly Michael Moore again demonstrates why he has a reputation as a slipshod journalist who has trouble getting his facts right. Moore established his reputation for playing fast and loose with the truth in his first film, the 1989 documentary "Roger and Me," centering on General Motors layoffs in his hometown of Flint, Michigan. As the New Yorker's Pauline Kael wrote at the time, he manipulated the chronology of his film, implying that certain events were a response to...

Last week I wrote about death and funerals. I thought the column was extremely funny and it seemed -- based on the responses I received via E-mail -- that most of you did too. But there was a small minority of people who, although they also agreed that the column was funny, admonished me to "Stick to politics!" Sorry, but I can't oblige. I love discussing, reading and ruminating over politics and all its related disciplines in a way that's hard for those far less passionate about the subject to fathom. However, one thing I don't like to do is...

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Three teenagers who authorities say were apparently playing with fireworks were charged Friday with starting one of two wildfires that burned along the Rio Grande north of downtown and drove hundreds of people from their homes. An Arizona wildfire that devastated a mountaintop hamlet a week ago also was caused by people, officials said. But they said they do not know yet if it was deliberate. Ricky Navarette, 16, Fernando Anaya, 13, and Steven Sedillo, 13, all of Albuquerque, were booked on arson and related charges. Sedillo also was charged with tampering with evidence. The fire, which...

Our mayor, our premier, the opposition, restaurant and casino owners, the non-smokers and the smokers-rights types, they're all locked in a battle to the death over who gets to smoke -- cigarettes that is -- and who doesn't. Glen Murray to date won't let himself be pinned down on a citywide ban, ditto Doer on a provincewide ban. Restaurants that have bars attached continue to allow smoking while bar owners have nightmares at the thought that someday soon their establishments might have to go cold turkey. Meanwhile, booze is legal, cigarette smoking is legal and marijuana is not. There's something...

Grow houses, such as this residence raided in January on Inuvik Crescent in Kanata, are often dangerous firetraps because the growers bypass hydro meters to obtain the massive amounts of electricity to power the heat lamps and other paraphernalia to surreptitiously grow the plants. Homegrown marijuana has blossomed into a huge industry that collects billions of dollars annually, officials say. Police say there are at least 50,000 houses in Canada that are now used exclusively to grow marijuana, ranging from new homes worth as much as $600,000 in downtown Vancouver to more modest residences sprinkled through the suburban streets of...

Cost of the War on DrugsThe Western world has spent TRILLIONS of dollars fighting drug use over the past century and what do we have to show for it?
