I have found myself in recent years insisting that people believe their ears and not their eyes. Now our flesh demands to see by its own unregenerate power, only then will the flesh say it believes. But the truth is, our flesh does not often believe even when it sees. We usually figure, “they have some way of doing that” or perhaps we’ll say, “This is a trick, an illusion.” And illusionist can do some pretty amazing stuff! (See the video below). But the Scriptures are clear to say that Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Rom...

Hardly, but lots of people are talking about UConn players Stefanie Dolson and Kiah Stokes putting up some bunny ears behind President Obama during a photo op at the White House. One should always understand that we are all different so that it is impossible to suggest a single form of treatment that will work in every case and for every person. However, there is a very simple technique that has often shown to be effective in many cases of tinnitus (ringing in the ears.) Any person who is afflicted by this very unpleasant condition would do well to at least give this simple technique a try. To perform this technique, put the palms of your hands over your ears. The fingers are on the back of the head. The middle...

Taipei, May 20 (CNA) It is not unusual for mothers stop their children from eating in bed, but now doctors are also telling their patients the same thing -- if they don't want ants crawling into their ears. Although it is common to find small bugs in the ear canals, a local doctor said Friday that he recently found as many as 25 dead ants in the ears of a 16-year-old girl. Before seeking medical help, the girl, who has a sweet tooth, had been suffering from ear pain for several months, said Hung Yaun-tsung, chief of the Department of...

A 7-year-old girl named Samantha Shaw got plastic surgery because her mother feared bullies. The young girl has cup ears that protruded, and one of which also exhibited the condition known as lop ear. Did the family go too far? The little girl had been teased over her ears, and her parents finally decided that surgery to 'fix' the issue was the only solution. The procedure is called otoplasty where the ears are pinned back. This is extreme at such a young age, and going under the knife is not exactly completely safe. There are many complications that can occur,...

A constant annoying ringing in the ears called tinnitus - didn't go away when researchers tried zapping patients' heads with magnetic waves in a recent study. The researchers still think magnetic therapy could work, if they can find the right part of the brain to apply it to. "We haven't found the sweet spot yet," said Dr. Jay Piccirillo, the lead author of the study and a professor of ear, nose and throat surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, Missouri. Tinnitus is caused by a "phantom" sound, thought to be the result of mis-wired brain...

Treatment in rats stops, rather than masks, the problem, researchers say WEDNESDAY, Jan. 12 (HealthDay News) -- Research in rats suggests that "rebooting" the brain can help stop tinnitus, a condition characterized by persistent ringing or other noises in the ears. There is no cure for tinnitus, which can occur as a result of hearing loss. In this study, U.S. researchers stimulated the vagus nerve while simultaneously playing a variety of sound tones over an extended period of time. The goal was to increase the numbers of neurons tuned to frequencies other than the tinnitus frequency. The vagus nerve is...

A butterfly species equipped with tiny ears on its wings can distinguish between high and low pitch sounds, possibly as a way to listen in on nearby birds, new research suggests. Scientists thought butterflies were deaf until 1912 when the first butterfly ears were identified. The latest discovery was made with the blue morpho butterfly (Morpho peleides), which dazzles with its bright-blue wing coloration when it flits about in...

The long-standing argument centers around outer hair cells, which are rod-shaped cells that respond to sound waves. Located in the fluid-filled part of the inner ear called the cochlea, these outer hair cells sport tufts of hair-like cilia that project into the fluid. The presence of outer hair cells makes mammalian hearing more than 100 times better than it would be if the cells were absent. As sound waves race into the inner ear at hundreds of miles per hour, their energy--although dissipated by the cochlear fluid--generates waves in the fluid, somewhat like the tiny waves made by a pebble...

Hillary, I think, is starting to get panicked because she's called up all of Bubba's old buddies, Carville and Begala and Joe Lockhart, she had them over to dinner to discuss what to do about this. Her team wasn't there. They're all one team, of course, but publicly Carville and Begala have said,...

When my sons were preschoolers in the early 70s, ear tubes were all the rage for children with recurring ear infections. Parents were bombarded by warnings that if fluid in the middle ear lingered long after treatment of an ear infection it could impair hearing and cause lasting developmental abnormalities, including problems with speech and language, learning and behavior. Two decades later, ear tubes were still very much in fashion. A newsletter published in November 1993 for parents of young children proclaimed that hearing loss resulting from otitis media with effusion, or O.M.E., as the problem is known medically, can...

2/14/2006 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- The 380th Air Expeditionary Wings command post Airmen have one of the most important areas in the area of responsibility to track. With four controllers and a superintendent covering around-the-clock operations this group is ready for anything. We are the nerve center for the base in this war environment, said Senior Master Sgt. Joseph Howell, command post superintendent. And we all understand our work can have a big effect on the mission here. That mission impact was evident to first-time deployer Staff Sgt. Lynn Brown the moment he arrived. There is a definite adjustment we...

If your ears are burning it's said someone is talking about you, but Australian scientists say its more likely you're having a brainwave. Two researchers in Canberra have developed a high-tech hat that monitors brain activity via changes in ear temperature -- offering a cheap way to assess risks for patients ahead of brain surgery. By plugging the converted hard hat into a patient's ears researchers can measure tiny changes in eardrum temperature caused by an increased flow of blood to the side of the brain used to concentrate on a task. "If an area of the brain is more...

Walking is tricky business. With everyone in a hurry, and the sidewalks and hallways more crowded, it seems you can't take two steps without some klutz bumping into you. To avoid accidents, cars have directional signals to let you know when they're turning. And now your ears can have them, too! Head Blinkers wins our stupid safety award. It consists of two lights that you hang over your ears. A wire leads down to your hand. At the end are two buttons -- one button for left and one for right. Wanna make a left turn? Press the left button,...

Belting out a few notes on key might take years of practice, and perfect pitch the right genetics, but when it comes to something as simple as telling noise from symphony, speech from music, all ears are created equal - or so it was once thought. But in a new study, scientists have found that the left and right ears process sound differently. From birth, the right ear responds more to speech, while the left ear is more attuned to music, according to the study, published in Science on Sept. 10. The findings could have substantial implications for deaf people...

Mr. Jeffries. Mr. Jeffries has stepped into a void created by the death of his famous grandfather to claim the title of the dog with the longest ears in the world. The 2004 Guinness Book of World Records will acclaim the two-year-old English basset hound for his 29.2-centimetre ears. His grandfather, Biggles, the face of Hush Puppies, relinquished the title on his death last year. Mr. Jeffries' owner, Phil Jeffries, claimed his pet's ears were insured for more than $60,000. He said the dog stands on them, trips on them and drags them in his food. The owner's girlfriend says...

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Campus police at the University of Alaska Anchorage shot and killed a cow moose Tuesday night after the animal had menaced students and charged the officers. At one point, a student got trapped behind a light pole near the UAA Commons when the moose forced him to take refuge, said Sgt. Annie Endecott of the University Police Department. "He kept dodging the moose," Endecott said. "Every time he moved, the moose got real aggressive." The moose had been aggressive while wandering around the Commons area, according to police and students. "Somebody warned us: 'Watch out! There's a...
