Declaring Indiana for obama might be premature per the Indiana Sec of States website. Indiana might actualy count the vote because there were tens of thousands of provisional ballots due to voter rolls issues. I had the voter card in my hand and wasnt listed. http://www.in.gov/apps/sos/election/general/general2008?page=office&countyID=-1&officeID=36&districtID=-1&candidate=

Pierre, SD (LifeNews.com) -- For a second time, the voters of South Dakota defeated a state ballot measure that would have banned most abortions after defeating a similar measure two years ago. The 2006 ban would have only allowed abortions to save the life of the mother and the 2008 ban added rape and incest exceptions with the hope of persuading more pro-life voters to support it. Instead, South Dakota voters defeated Initiated Measure 11 by a 55-45 percentage point margin. The margin was similar to the vote last time around despite the attempt to appeal to the majority of...

What will be your first tipoff as to the final outcome of the election? Will it be the weather forcast a few days before the election? Will it be the reports of where voter turnout is the heaviest? How about the speed with which some of the first states will be called? What's your tell?

HARARE (AFP) - The first results from Zimbabwe's elections were due to be announced on Monday after the opposition accused authorities of sitting on the outcome in a bid to keep President Robert Mugabe in power. As complaints mounted over the delay in releasing any figures from Saturday's joint presidential, parliamentary and municipal elections, the chairman of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) said the first announcement should be made early Monday. "The first results will start to be published at 6:00 am (0400 GMT)," George Chiweshe said at a news conference shortly before midnight. "The commission is aware that these...

DALLAS (Reuters) - An openly gay candidate lost his bid on Saturday to become mayor of Dallas in a race that attracted wide attention because of his sexual orientation. Councilman Ed Oakley lost to businessman Tom Leppert, who took 58 percent of the vote to Oakley's 42 percent, according to official returns. Oakley had the endorsement of the Democratic Party, while Leppert ran a nonpartisan campaign. A victory by Oakley would have made him the first openly gay mayor of a major U.S. city, according to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, a Washington-based gay rights group. Neither candidate...

The last election told us many things. One thing that stands out above all others is that the number of people who actually understand what is going on in our country today is frighteningly small. A small group who “get it” Just half of Americans are registered to vote, so right off, we know that half of America doesn’t care what happens to itself or the rest of us. They live in a different world. You know who they are so it is not necessary to expand on this point. Of those who are registered, on a good Election Day,...

Hi fellow Freepers. A bit of news...just heard a lengthy interview on Hannity with JD Hayworth in which he stated ("in the immortal words of Yogi Berra...") his race ain't over. If I heard correctly, at least 100,000 votes remain to be counted; AP apparently jumped the gun with their projection. JD's opponent has not claimed victory nor has JD conceded. He said it may take a good week for all the "legal votes" to be counted. If this was posted elsewhere, I apologize...did a search and didn't see anything. Anyway, we could use a bit of optimism around this joint...

(Everywhere, USA) There are three groups dancing in the streets around the world tonight as a result of the Democratic victories in the US House and Senate. The anti-American Muslims, the illegal immigrants planning to sneak into the US, and, of course the American Democrats. The amazing thing about the election here in Bucks County, Pa. is that the Democrats, some 24 hours after the election results, continue to rip down and sledge hammer the Republican campaign signs. Just as they did throughout the past two months. The immaturity of some never ceases to amaze.

LOS ANGELES Many expatriate Mexicans who supported presidential winner Felipe Calderon weren't celebrating Thursday. Instead, they worried that the refusal of leftist candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's to accept the official results could spark violent protests back home. "Calderon might have won, but the people have lost," said Roxana Escarcega, 35, a massage therapist in Los Angeles who cast an absentee ballot for Calderon. "Many won't trust the results, and that could create problems." Absentee voting was low among expatriates, who were allowed to cast ballots for the first time in a presidential election. More than 58 percent supported Calderon,...

GAZA (Reuters) - Hamas and Fatah gunmen exchanged fire on Friday in political turmoil as the long-dominant Fatah faction was threatened with a violent backlash from within to its crushing election defeat by the Islamic militant group. Hamas, whose shock parliamentary election victory changed the face of Palestinian politics and plunged Middle East peacemaking deeper in limbo, said it would hold talks soon with President Mahmoud Abbas on a "political partnership." But Fatah leaders have rejected a coalition with Hamas. The United States said it will review funding to the aid-dependent Palestinians if Hamas enters government and Israel suggested it...

Dear Governor: November 9, 2005 06:19 AM EST There is no such thing as a fusion candidate, no such thing as a bipartisan campaign or a non-partisan issue, and come election night, there are just two parties, one at the GOP HQ and one at the Dem HQ. There's a winners' party and a losers' party. Last night you were speaking to the losers' party. I didn't go. Why bother? The polls had shown for a few days that only Prop 75 had a chance (the measure to stop public employee unions from deducting political dues from their members' paychecks...

Forgive me for making a blunt and obvious point, but events in Western Europe are slowly discrediting large swaths of American liberalism. Most of the policy ideas advocated by American liberals have already been enacted in Europe: generous welfare measures, ample labor protections, highly progressive tax rates, single-payer health care systems, zoning restrictions to limit big retailers, and cradle-to-grave middle-class subsidies supporting everything from child care to pension security. And yet far from thriving, continental Europe has endured a lost decade of relative decline. Western Europeans seem to be suffering a crisis of confidence. Election results, whether in North Rhine-Westphalia...

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An alliance of Shi'ite Islamist groups won the most votes in Iraq's election, but the percentage it received -- 47.6 percent -- was lower than many expected, according to the final tally released on Sunday. A coalition of the two main Kurdish parties won 25.4 percent and a bloc led by Interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi got 13.6 percent. Overall turnout was 8.55 million votes, which was 58 percent of those registered to vote. The Shi'ite United Iraqi Alliance won 4.075 million votes, the Kurds won 2.175 million and Allawi's list won 1.168 million, according to the...

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington Republicans, considering whether to challenge Democrat Christine Gregoire's razor-thin victory for governor, yesterday demanded a list of the 900,000 who cast ballots in vote-rich, problem-plagued King County. [snip] "We're mostly posing questions," Vance said. "King County is where we saw the votes changing. King County is the one county that was allowed to take ballots that were declared dead in November and bring them back to life in December." He stopped short of committing to a challenge of the election results.

I am providing a link to an article about a sociology professor at the University of Louisville who reportedly said shortly after the election that “It was the religious zealots who say they are voting on morals. I think we should all buy AK47’s and shoot them all! That’s what I would suggest, if it were allowed.” I sent the following e-mail to University administrators shortly after the article was published. Dear Administrator: The Louisville Patriot reported that a U of L sociology professor, Dr. John McTighe, stated to his class: “It was the religious zealots who say they are...

Pres. Bush has added another 1/2 million votes since 11/18/04 which was the last time I updated the total. Bush's vote total of 61,711,686 is 11,255,684 more votes than he received in 2000! That's a 22.3% increase in just four years. Pres. Bush has also shattered the previous popular vote record held by Pres. Reagan.

It might surprise some to see how the canidiates fared in the 10 wealthiest U.S. counties (2000 census). President Bush won in only four of the ten, comprising two states (one of which might be a bit shocking for some). So much for "the Republicans are the party of the rich". Presidential election results for the 10 wealthiest U.S. counties. (winner in caps) Teton County, Wyoming: Bush/Cheney - 5,124 - KERRY/EDWARDS - 5,972 Fairfield County, Connecticut: Bush/Cheney - 14,694 - KERRY/EDWARDS - 15,047 Marin County, California: Bush/Cheney - 26,141 - KERRY/EDWARDS - 73,946 Somerset County, New Jersey: BUSH/CHENEY - 67,505...

Pres. Bush's vote total from the Nov. 2004 election has now exceeded 61 1/4 million votes which is nearly 11 million more votes than he received in 2000! The national vote count is winding down. Pres. Bush's final vote total should approach 61.5 million. The current AP vote count is lagging by more than 600,000 votes.
-
Pres. Bush's vote total in the 2004 general election has now reached 61,103,636 votes. This represents a 10.65 million (21%) increase from the 2000 election. There are still hundreds of thousands of outstanding ballots yet to be counted in CA, OH, WA, etc.

... You see, I am not Senator Kerry who can convince fifty million voters that I am someone I am not. Nor can I convince the majority of American voters that I am a great and godly man as President Bush truthfully did last Tuesday. No. I am just a left-handed, dumb old Dutchman with a white goatee and a twenty-nine inch in-seam. To add insult to injury I am also a Patch Mountain brat. Now Patch is a mountain so far back in the boonies of Maine that it makes the average rural hick Mainer seem like a sophisticated...

Not everything came up roses for Republicans on Election Day. Republicans have much to crow about after last week's election. They have solid control of the White House and both houses of Congress for the first time since before the Depression. But this is still a closely divided country, and while the GOP won the major league pennants, Democrats did well in the AAA league of politics, the state legislatures. Republicans have to pay attention not only to where they are gaining votes, but also to the states and demographic groups where they are losing them. Last week, more than...

Catholics and moderately religious voters were just as important as very religious 'Born Agains' By Steven Waldman and John Green The congealing conventional wisdom is that super-religious, born-again Protestants—a.k.a. the religious right—carried President Bush to victory in 2004. A new Beliefnet analysis of the election data reveals this is only half right. There was indeed a flood of evangelicals to the polls—but it now appears that a dramatic shift in the Catholic vote was just as important and, in crucial states, probably more so. In addition, the big gain for Bush was probably among the moderately religious—and the secular—not the...

I see an unalterable divide. I really suggest everyone here go to Democratic Underground (where we are not allowed to post, per their rules) and read what they are saying. Expect a lot of anger, profanity, anti-religous bigotry and hatred. See a lot of mischaracterization of who we are and what we believe. I see this divide as somewhat permanant. On a personal level people can and do change. In my experience getting people to either become involved in the shooting sports or going to church and over time their politics are going to change. I run a discussion group...

President Bush won fair, square and decisively. The Democrats are a sick, sorry sap of sore losers. Despite the rich fat cat donors like George Soros and Peter Lewis, the 527’s and the backing of Hollywood moguls. Despite CBS and the New York Slimes with their unrelenting vicious attacks. They couldn’t do it. They can’t take it. They don’t get it. As the Beatles once sang, money can’t buy love. The Democrats are infused with hatred against religious values and John Kerry was an unlikable candidate. It’s no wonder they lost. At first, the Kerry team was hoping for a...
