MADISON, Wisconsin — Despite word that some members were getting weak-kneed about sweeping reform, GOP Assembly leadership is rolling out an overhaul of the state Government Accountability Board — a bill aimed at decentralizing a rogue agency its critics charge is run by left-leaning bureaucrats. Sources tell Wisconsin Watchdog the proposed bill, to be laid out Wednesday afternoon, will replace the existing accountability board with two separate and distinct commissions — ethics and elections. The GAB’s six presiding retired judges will be replaced. Under the proposal, the Legislature would appoint four citizen members of the Elections commission, two from each...

WASHINGTON -- Hillary Rodham Clinton's private email server, which stored some 55,000 pages of emails from her time as secretary of state, was the subject of attempted cyberattacks originating in China, South Korea and Germany after she left office in early 2013, according to a congressional document obtained by The Associated Press. While the attempts were apparently blocked by a "threat monitoring" product that Clinton's employees connected to her network in October 2013, there was a period of more than three months from June to October 2013 when that protection had not been installed, according to a letter from Sen....

Rupert Murdoch once again has no problem making potentially incendiary comments on Twitter. The 21st Century Fox chief took to Twitter on Wednesday to compare GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson to current president Barack Obama. "Ben and Candy Carson terrific," Murdoch wrote about the candidate and his wife. "What about a real black President who can properly address the racial divide? And much else." This is not the first time that Murdoch has praised Carson on Twitter. Murdoch has also previously been critical of Donald Trump, with the real estate mogul feuding with Fox News of late.

Traditionally, Minnesota has been considered one of the top states in which to get a K-12 public education. The latest numbers regarding reading and math proficiency from the state’s Department of Education, though, serve as a warning that not all is well in the land of 10,000 lakes. Below is a chart using data from the Minnesota Department of Education that gives a high-level perspective of how students are doing in the state:

This is a must watch:(Watch video at link) As the media continues to dredge out the alleged sexual victims of formerly beloved comedian Bill Cosby, Matt Drudge, the independent proprietor of one of the most organically trafficked news sites on the web, is asking why no journalists are probing into the rumored sordid life of one of the next possible leaders of the free world: Hillary Clinton. For weeks now, Joe Scarborough has been expressing befuddlement over Ben Carson's appeal. It boiled over on today's Morning Joe, as Scarborough went on an extended anti-Carson rant. Scarborough unleashed after clips were played from town halls in Iowa and New Hampshire in which Republican voters expressed strong support for the notion of Carson as a qualified president. Calling Carson unqualified to be president, Joe railed: "I've seen people like Carson on school boards who got into trouble because they were in "over their heads." View the video here.

To officially retire, he'll need his House GOP colleagues to produce something they're not known for -- a quick and orderly decision. As Scott Wong of The Hill reported Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner experienced a fitful night's sleep last week, during which time the Ohio Republican had a nightmare about a "hand" that "came reaching, pulling," and, ultimately preventing his dream-self from making a needed escape. "I was trying to get out and I couldn't get out," Boehner related. A bad dream, eh? Ah, well, probably just one of those examples of sleep knitting up our raveled sleeve of...
  • House conservatives spurn McCarthy, flex muscle ahead of speaker vote

A group of hard-line conservatives threatened to upend the Republican race to succeed outgoing House Speaker John A. Boehner, announcing on Wednesday it will throw its support behind a little-known Florida lawmaker to become the next speaker. The House Freedom Caucus’s backing of Rep. Daniel Webster (R-Fla.) ahead of a crucial internal party vote Thursday deeply complicates Majority Leader Kevin O. McCarthy’s bid to succeed Boehner. The group counts enough members — about 40 — to deny McCarthy the majority of the whole House he would need to claim the speaker’s chair. But in an opening for the California Republican,...

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is stepping into the suddenly feverish House speaker's race to endorse the leading candidate, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), as "a good man and a strong leader." McCarthy has a challenge from the right, and Cheney's statement should help McCarthy with some of the hardliners, in part by giving them conservative cover to support him.

Russian fighter jets shadowed U.S. predator drones on at least three separate occasions high above Syria since the start of Russia's air campaign last week, according to two U.S. officials briefed on this latest intelligence from the region. Meanwhile, U.S. Navy Captain Jeff Davis told reporters a U.S. aircraft flying over Syria had to be rerouted to avoid a Russian fighter jet at least once. "We have taken action to maintain safe separation," Davis said, adding that the U.S. aircraft "changed path a little bit." He did not disclose which type of U.S. aircraft was involved. U.S. officials tell Fox...

Yes, according to TeleSurTV, El Chapo has increased the bounty on Trump's hair hat to a less-than-paltry $100 million. "He was mad," a predictably unnamed source tells the publication. "He wants Donald Trump dead and will pay any amount of money to have Donald Trump’s head." Meanwhile, the entirety of American politics wishes desperately for Donald to quietly exit the 2016 race for the White House, an exit that would essentially be a gift to the nation too precious for a specific valuation.
  • Most Americans have less than $1,000 in savings

Americans are living right on the edge — at least when it comes to financial planning. Approximately 62% of Americans have less than $1,000 in their savings accounts and 21% don’t even have a savings account, according to a new survey of more than 5,000 adults conducted this month by Google Consumer Survey for personal finance website GOBankingRates.com. “It’s worrisome that such a large percentage of Americans have so little set aside in a savings account,” says Cameron Huddleston, a personal finance analyst for the site. “They likely don’t have cash reserves to cover an emergency and will have to...
