Serious question. Is this over? I mean there is no objective reason for a thinking adult to vote for Obama over McCain. Barry has all the earmarks of a flash in the pan, a guy who could be expected to lose in a landslide. Landslides don’t just happen on election day, they start with a trend leading to that result. A blind man can see this is a very bad trend for Obama. Soon-to-be landslide victims flail and insist right up until election day that they will win. They are then discarded on the ash heap of history’s losers with...

WASHINGTON — It takes a lot to make a state change color in a presidential election. For all the money spent and speeches made, only three states (Iowa, New Hampshire and New Mexico) shifted from one column to the other in 2004. But in a year when change is the major theme, the 2008 Electoral College map could be headed for a significant makeover as Democratic Sen. Barack Obama and Republican Sen. John McCain enter the final two months of this year's presidential campaign. More states could be in play than in recent presidential elections. And voters in those swing...

As you can see, we have made some changes here at Electoral Projection! One of our commenters suggested the other day that it might be more accurate in capturing recent trends if we based the projection on a shorter time frame than a 50-Day Average of Polls, especially once the Fall Campaign begins. As I thought about it, I decided it would be interesting to see the difference between a 50-Day Average and a 15-Day Average. So, beginning today and continuing through Election Day, we will show Electoral Projection Maps and Charts for BOTH a 50-Day Average of Polls and...

BARACK OBAMA hopes to wrap up the Democratic nomination next week, as the three last primaries, combined with an expected slew of superdelegate announcements, carry him over the threshold of victory. Already, his team is focusing on winning the White House. With an electorate sick of war, costly petrol and George Bush, the odds favour him. Intrade, a betting site, puts his chances at 58%. If he (or, should a miracle occur, Mrs Clinton) stumbles, however, it may be because the electoral college has worked against the Democrats. With five months of campaigning still ahead, all predictions should be taken...

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Officially, Sen. Barack Obama traveled to this desert city Monday for a Memorial Day address. He stood against the backdrop of the Organ Mountains and talked about honoring veterans, but his campaign aides came here believing they could do something bigger: Win back the Mountain West from Republicans. The underlying goal of Obama’s trip this week through New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado is to lay claim to a region that Obama views as one of his best opportunities to pick off states in November. “We want to send a message now that we are going to...

Here are the three leading candidates for president in the Republican party, a party based in the South and in the interior, rural in nature, and backed in large part by social conservatives: the senior senator from Arizona, a congenital maverick with friends in the press and a habit of dissing the base of his party; the former governor of deep-blue Massachusetts, son of a Michigan governor, a Mormon who looks, sounds, and comes across as a city boy; and the former mayor of New York, the Big Apple itself, ethnic and Catholic, pro-choice and pro-gun control, married three times,...

After a mysterious two-week absence, America Online has restored its straw poll electoral map, which continues to show President Bush holding a commanding lead in the race for the White House. The interactive survey, which allows AOL users to cast one vote each month for a presidential candidate, vanished at the start of October, leaving many suspicious as to the cause of its disappearance. Among the letters from WorldNetDaily readers: "Has AOL discontinued its straw poll because it looked soooo bad for Kerry? The webpage is no longer available." (Paul) "Since Oct. 1st the AOL straw poll has disappeared. I...
