  • Dante’s real danger isn’t the NYPD

Mayor Bill de Blasio has spoken of conversations with his son, Dante, about the “dangers he may face” from the police. Like so many other assertions connected with the cases of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, it is a fiction — and a dangerous one. Truth is, a young man of Dante de Blasio’s age faces far more danger from violent men his age than he does from cops. Zach Emanuel found this out the hard way. Zach’s father is Rahm Emanuel, mayor of Chicago. Like Dante, he’s 17. Last Friday, he was assaulted and mugged just a block from...

Nineteen people were shot across the South and West sides from Thursday evening through early Friday morning -- 13 of them wounded over a 30-minute period, authorities say. The overnight shootings peaked between 9:15 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. That's when eight people, many of them teens, were shot at 79th Street and Essex Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Then two men were wounded in the Ida B. Wells / Darrow Homes complex at about 9:25 p.m., police said. The men, 27 and 33, were shot in the 600 block of East 37th Street and taken to the University of Chicago Hospitals,...

Tonight President Obama is going to give the State of the Unions address. President Obama has never been one to pay attention to the law or details. When recently giving a speech quoting the Declaration of Independence he left out the word “creator” as part of the quote. Presumably, what he wanted to do is expunge any reference to god even though that was an integral part of the meaning of the Declaration. ( See video). It comes as no surprise that the time honored State of the Union address given by the president is now resembling more a State...

I was pretty surprised to see that Rahm Emmanuel is throwing oceans of advertising money at the Internet. The targeting could be better. The following is a screenshot from the conservatives4palin.com site: Note the ad at the bottom of the page. 1. I don't live in Chicago;I'm not even in the suburbs. 2. A Palin supporter is unlikely to vote for Emmanuel, even if the supporter DID live in Chicago. I conclude that Emmanuel either, 1. ... is getting poor targeting data for his advertising. OR 2. “O Emmanuel, Come” (Matthew 1:18-25)And now we come to the last of the seven O Antiphons, “O Emmanuel.” You see it there in your hymnal, on the page facing the hymn; it’s the one listed for December 23. You’ll find it also in your bulletin. So let’s pray this “Emmanuel” antiphon together: “O Emmanuel, our king and our Lord, the anointed for the nations and their Savior: Come and save us, O Lord our God.” This word “Emmanuel”--it sounds familiar enough, but what does it mean? If you or I lived rent free for five years in an apartment in pricey Washington, DC, we would have to pay income taxes on the value of the rent on the place. But apparently not Rahm Emanuel. The wonderful Andrew Malcolm of the LA Times writes: We already knew that BP and its folks were significant contributors to the record $750-million war chest of Barack Obama's 2007-08 campaign. Given the chance to fall on the Sestak sword for President Obama, Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel instead took off for Israel and left behind a note saying that Obama’s unpaid advisory job offer, as incentive for Democrat Joe Sestak to “avoid a divisive Senate primary”, was no biggie since past administrations practiced this type of sleazy politics all the time. Ezekiel Emmanuel, Rahm’s health-wonk brother, wants the nation’s seniors to just get on with it. Death, that is. Believing that older Americans have already had their fair share of time, he suggests that they be denied health care resources—out of a concern for justice, apparently. This, from the Competitive Enterprise Institute, sums it up: 'In a January article published in the British medical journal Lancet, Emanuel and his co-authors advocate a health rationing policy that discriminates against older people. They wrote, “Unlike allocation by sex or race, allocation by age is not invidious discrimination … Treating 65-year-olds differently because of...

[This article in "The Lancet" describes the system under which Obama's health-care system would allocate medical resources] Because none of the currently used systems satisfy all ethical requirements for just allocation, we propose an alternative: the complete lives system. This system incorporates five principles (table 2): youngest-first, prognosis, save the most lives, lottery, and instrumental value.5 As such, it prioritises younger people who have not yet lived a complete life and will be unlikely to do so without aid. Many thinkers have accepted complete lives as the appropriate focus of distributive justice: “individual human lives, rather than individual experiences, [are]...

Blagojevich's administration to appoint Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett, and the Sun-Times learned Tuesday that he also pressed that it be done by a certain deadline. » Click to enlarge image Rahm Emanuel (right) and Gov. As reported here this weekend, the last 72 hours have been difficult for Mr. Emmannuel, with reports now coming that factions within that Obama camp are increasingly agitating for his resignation. After reportedly being taped having detailed discussions with Blago's recently departed chief of staff, Emmanuel, along with Governor Hot Rod Blagojevich, has helped illustrate, to those of us who didn't know, what machine politics are all about.... It's looking more and more like Rahm Emmanuel may be the next shoe to drop in the ongoing Blagojevich investigation. The Chief of Staff of the "most transparent administration in American history" is holed up somewhere in Chicago and we still have more than a month before the inauguration. It's an inauspicious start, to say the least... (video)

The leaking sludge of the Blagojevich investigation is threatening to stain the Obama presidency before it gets off the ground. The reports out of Chicago indicate a tense weekend for the Obammunists. There is rampant speculation about the extent and content of Rahm Emmanuel's six contacts with Blagojevich and, perhaps even more pressingly, a concern that perhaps the media blanket that has been protecting Obama may be showing signs of wear... Chicago has gone quiet this weekend. Investigative journalists, having spent the last few months in Alaska and shadowing plumbers in Ohio, are finally starting to turn their attention to the newly elected president. As the Obammunist camp draws their wagons into a circle and become more defensive with a press that is showing signs of slowly waking up.

WASHINGTON (AP) - People who have been briefed on the Illinois governor corruption investigation say Barack Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is not a target of the probe. Emanuel, a Chicago congressman who would have been a likely contact between the Obama transition office and Gov. Rod Blagojevich, has been a focus of media attention since Obama said Thursday he has asked for an internal review of contacts between his staff and Blagojevich. Emanuel has been refusing to answer questions about whether he's the "president-elect adviser" referred to in the criminal complaint that accuses Blagojevich of putting Obama's Senate...

Is Obama's tendency to conceal the truth hanging Emmanuel out to dry? According to the FBI report, Obama would not cooperate in a quid pro quo with Blago for Obama's old Senate seat. Any reasonable person would know that in order for a bribe to be rejected, it must first be offered. And, who on Earth would believe Team Obama would have zero contact with the governor since the election, when this is someone who both he and Rahm knew well and campaigned for? If Obama had said, "he offered, we rejected", would there have been legal (not political) implications...

Last night, Fox News in Chicago was already reporting that Rahm Emmanuel personally met with the governor "on several occasions" to discuss the patronage Senate seat being vacated by Obama. This is getting very sticky already. There are already many cracks in Obama's story, and rumors range from suggestions of his complicity and knowledge to suggestions that his camp blew the whistle on the Blagojevich crime spree. Was the crime stopped before it had an opportunity to implicate Obama? (video)
