Well, at that moment I was playing President of the Imaginary States of America. That's one of the old Air Force One 707's, and it's mounted in spectacular fashion at the Reagan Library. When you take the tour they take a souvenir photo at the entrance. I did the standard arms-round-the-family one, then asked for another. The only photoshopping was to take out the hanger behind the plane and replace it with a night scene of Tuzla. I think that considering the amount of sniper fire I was taking, I look remarkably calm and collected. It's good to be the...

President Bush is scaling back next week’s fundraising swings for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) at the request of the campaign, which wants the events closed to the press, POLITICO has learned. The change — in both Arizona and Utah — is part of McCain’s delicate effort to find the balance between embracing an unpopular president and taking advantage of his huge continuing draw with well-heeled Republicans. The Arizona event, which was to be at the Phoenix Convention Center, was the first time Bush was to have appeared with McCain since their White House meeting in March. A McCain aide said:...

Posted on January 12th, 2008 By Sean Hackbarth in Conservative, Announcements [Human Events‘ editor Jed Babbin wrote this guest blog. –Sean] Since we endorsed Fred Thompson on Friday, Human Events has had a huge reaction –overwhelmingly positive – to the editorial from our readers all across the country. Here are some excerpts from the nearly 500 (and counting) comments: “Human Events made the right choice. Now conservatives everywhere are counting on the good people of South Carolina to do the same,” Kelly S., Florida.“Great editorial endorsement. Many conservatives are always trying to distinguish themselves among other conservatives with...

Today is April 22, Earth Day. Am I the only one who says WHO CARES??? Has it become "cool" to go green? I see it everywhere and I just don't understand. The reason I ask is because I am a television producer. Recently in a meeting of story ideas.. the idea of how to go green was brought up. Yeah yeah we'll tell people about different ways to save the environment, one person said. Keep in mind.. I live in a Very Conservative area. These people aren't your usual liberal tree huggers. Why is Global Warming such a big issue?...

A nation which is able to confront an enemy is a nation which knows where she comes from. Learn the US history without politically correctness and revisionism. You have been told that the US cavalry constantly massacred innocent Native Americans in their villages, because of a "genocidal" expansion. It is a lie. The war on the Great Plaines was complex, and most of the time, the story behind the "politically correct myth" is much more illuminating. Watch this video. Learn your history, see where you come from. And fight politically correctness at home.

I couldn't believe the phone call I got the other night. I'm on the planning committee for the Lincoln Day dinner in Charlotte county, Florida. We have been looking for a speaker for our yearly fund raiser that will take place on May 5th this year. (I know Lincoln's birthday is in Feb.) We were trying to get Charlie Christ. Last week we got word from the White House to hold up in making a final decision because they wanted to send someone. Well, you won't believe it the White House is sending Karl Rove to be our speaker. So...

One of Rudy Giuliani’s early achievements as mayor of New York City was to make people think twice about urinating on the streets. “If somebody was urinating on the street,” he once told the New York Times, “the reaction would be, oh, we can’t do anything about that. And then the idea would start to develop that there must be some inherent human right to urinate on the street. So the police started ignoring all kinds of offenses. They’d even stand by when drug deals were going on. The police became highly skilled observers of crime.” Something had to be...

This is a report from the Keep Arkansas Legal Meeting, Saturday October 8th at the Fletcher Library. Keep Arkansas Legal is a Central Arkansas group dedicated to stopping illegal immigration. We mainly discussed the effects of illegal immigration on Arkansas. Sharon told stories of how illegals who are supposed to do lawn work end up trashing the place. We all talked about ways to get people’s attention about this issue. Topics include the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock, Aztlan, in-state tuition for illegals, welfare for illegals, and population congestion. Brent gave us all a DVD about how socialism is destroying...

SIERRA VISTA — Locals celebrated the U.S. Constitution’s 219th birthday on Sunday with patriotic music, ringing bells and saluting the flag. The Tombstone Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored the program, “Bells Across America,” held at Veterans’ Memorial Park. “We do this every year, Vicki L. Brown, Constitution Week chairwoman. She added schools and churches may also participate. Mayor Tom Hessler read a proclamation declaring Constitution Week, which is Sept. 17-23, as a small group — many wearing American flag pins or patriotic clothing — listened. Judy Jolley Waterman, DAR chaplain, read an invocation. She thanked God...

WASHINGTON, Sept. 8, 2006 – It was an “eerie feeling” returning to the United States after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, said Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine Gen. Peter Pace. Pace, then the commander of U.S. Southern Command, had just been confirmed as vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was in Bogota, Colombia, when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon. “First, like all Americans I felt shock and anger,” Pace said during a recent interview. That was followed by determination “and the certain knowledge … that...

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6, 2006 -- When José Rojas went to pull a badly burned woman from a Pentagon window after Islamic extremists drove a commercial airliner headlong into the building, her skin came off in his hands. “I had to actually take my fingernails and dig into her flesh with her crying and screaming to get her out of the window,” Rojas said, describing his efforts to help the victim of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States. Rojas, 43, a police officer with the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, the successor of the Defense Protective Service, was...

Liberals are positively orgasmic over the accusations recycled from nut websites in the New York Post that bestselling author Ann Coulter plagiarized others’ writings. Oddly, the Post didn’t think these accusations were important enough to ask her about when interviewing her in early June. Perhaps this is because the accusations of plagiarism aren’t news. Calling Coulter “mean” and other four-letter words wasn’t gelling with Americans who actually know how to read, so liberals had to move on to plan B -- she’s a plagiarist! In his second article citing “plagiarism expert” and CEO of iParadigms John Barrie, New York Post...

I am doing a research paper in college on US Border Security History(no choice, big liberal teacher who proudly marched in the demonstrations). Anyways I am having a hard time finding resources that deal with such a specific issue. Other than the US BP History page and a few stories on banditos, Pancho Villa and the Apaches I am having little luck in finding specific articles or publications dealing directly with this throughout history. Any pointers to resources or events you know of that I dont will be of great help to me.

Next week I'll be travelling to Washington, DC and staying there for 8 weeks. While there I'd like to attend some events at places like Heritage Org, Cato Institute, American Enterprise Institute, etc. Trying to inding the various events, across all the different organizations, is very time consuming. Is there a website, or publication, that indexes upcoming events of this nature? Perhaps a weekly supplment to the Washington Post, for example?

My choices of the most important 2005 news stories are: The legalized killing of Terri Schindler. The Texas sanitation workers who drowned those "stray dogs". The astounding positive changes in Iraq, and the Iraqi elections. The Gas gouging price schemes of summer - blamed and poorly justified on 'hurricane Katrina'. The ridiculous last minute ploy to attempt to circumvent the Law regarding "Tookie" Williams. How about your choices? In your opinion, what are your "most important 2005 news stories"?

WASHINGTON, Dec. 14, 2005 – Elementary school students at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., got a combined current events and history lesson Dec. 13 from the wife of Vice President Dick Cheney. Lynne Cheney spoke to students at W.W. Burrows Elementary School about the election taking place in Iraq on Dec. 15. "What's happening is that the people in Iraq are going to vote for, what is in essence, their Congress, their national assembly," Cheney said. "It's a turning point, one of those things that when you're a grown-up, you will look in your history books and you will see...

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (Nov. 18, 2005) -- Just because a Marine is not in an infantry unit, does not mean he will not be attached to a combat patrol and be forced to depend on his training and instincts to survive. This was the case for Lance Cpl. Chris L. Wliszczak. Wliszczak was augmented from Headquarters and Service Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, and attached to Small Craft Company, Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, when he deployed to Iraq in March 2005. SACRAMENTO (AP) - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will share the special election spotlight this week with a couple of Hollywood counterparts from the opposite side of the political fence. Warren Beatty, an outspoken critic of the governor, and Rob Reiner are working with groups opposing the governor's agenda to campaign against his initiatives. Both are actors and directors who have long supported Democratic causes. Beatty has taped a radio ad for the California Nurses Association that calls on voters to turn out next week and turn down Schwarzenegger's "year of reform" initiatives. Reiner, meanwhile, will staff a phone bank in Los...

SHREVEPORT, La. - William Lawson looked every bit the retired Marine general this summer as he stood before a crowd of 200 people, demanding that a cemetery properly dispose of the American flags placed at the graves of veterans. He had on khakis, the Marines’ summer service uniform, complete with a general’s stars and row after row of medals, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal. He even wore an eyepatch. It turns out, however, that Lawson wasn’t a general at all — or even a World War II combat veteran. His 19 months in...

When George Washington, in a spiffy uniform of buff and blue, sitting his horse with a grace uncommon even among Virginians vain about their horsemanship, arrived outside Boston in July 1775 to assume command of the American rebellion, he was aghast. When he got a gander at his troops, mostly New Englanders, his reaction was akin to the Duke of Wellington's assessment of his troops, many of them the sweepings of Britain's slums, during the Peninsular War: "I don't know what effect these men will have upon the enemy, but, by God, they terrify me." You think today's red state/blue...

MB mayor wants bike events nixed McBride stands by comments about Bikefest attendees By Emma Ritch The Sun News Myrtle Beach Mayor Mark McBride refused to apologize Tuesday for comments about black bikers and asked council members to cancel Saturday's Atlantic Beach Bikefest events at the convention center. LARGE sporting events have an "ecological footprint" thousands of times the size of the pitches they are played on. That's according to researchers who have calculated a sporting event's environmental impact for the first time. Andrea Collins of Cardiff University in the UK and her colleagues looked at the 2004 soccer FA Cup final, held at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. They converted the energy and resources used on the day of the match into an ecological footprint - the hypothetical area of land required to support the use of those resources. Energy consumed, for example, was converted into the area of...

Thousands Drawn to Help Inaugural volunteers have been streaming into Washington, joining thousands of local volunteers for a momentous task that is honor, duty and job networking all rolled into one, and more of them are scheduled to arrive this week. Florists from Hawaii, Boy Scouts from Texas, students from Wisconsin and former political candidates from Oklahoma are among the many crashing on friends' couches, sleeping in hotels at the inaugural committee's expense or footing their own bills. Each volunteer has small tasks that might seem minor, from giving directions to a ticket holder to stripping the thorns from roses...

1. Introduction As related by Clube and Napier in their monograph The Cosmic Winter, see [1], in the year 1178 A.D. four wise men of Canterbury were sitting outside on a clear and calm 18th June night, a half Moon standing placidly in the starry sky. Suddenly they noticed a flame jutting out of a horn of the Moon. Then they saw the Moon tremble and its colour change slowly from light brilliant to a darker reddish tone. Such a colour remained for all the time the Moon was visible during that phase. This story is found in a manuscript...

When it comes to choosing leaders, integrity comes first--and no man showed more integrity in 2004 than John O'Neill, the 2004 HUMAN EVENTS Man of the Year. He helped to teach us the truth about John Kerry and counter the lies Kerry spread about the image of the Vietnam veteran, whom Kerry maligned three decades ago when, as an anti-war agitator, he presented slanderous testimony in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Kerry wanted voters to see him as a war hero who stood by his "band of brothers." But John O'Neill and the Swift Boat veterans had a different view--of...

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's daily scheduled from his first year in office provide few details of his day-to-day activities, but are enough to show a governor busy with fund-raising and media events, as well as state operations. Released Wednesday in response to a public records act request by the California First Amendment Coalition, the governor's calendar includes thousands of entries of meetings, meals, phone calls and conferences but with only minimal disclosure of attendees and topics of discussion. It's the first time any California governor has released his daily schedules, Schwarzenegger's office said. Those gaining audience with Schwarzenegger...

Throughout the 1990s, Turkish foreign policy analysts had an easy job. After all, Turkish foreign policy was predictable. Ankara cooperated enthusiastically with Washington, whether in the Middle East or in the Balkans. Turkey aligned itself with Israel and kept at arms length from Middle Eastern neighbors such as Syria and Iran. In Europe, Ankara traded heavily with the European Union (EU) but did not allow the EU to dictate foreign policy. The European Union's frequent allegations and criticism of human rights abuses in Turkey, especially with regard to Turkey's fight against Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK, Partiya Karkaren Kurdistan) terrorists, soured...

Jerry Seinfeld's very successful television sitcom, its creators said, was a "show about nothing." Seinfeld, playing a fictional version of himself, and his friends would confront the vicissitudes of daily life and often place themselves in embarrassing social pickles. There was a dust-up Monday between Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic Treasurer Phil Angelides that was the equivalent of a show about nothing. Schwarzenegger met with his newly appointed Council of Economic Advisors, most of whose members are supply-side economists out of the Milton Friedman school. Friedman, in fact, was one of the attendees, thus giving Schwarzenegger an opportunity to...

Politics Dispatch from California by William Rusher Posted Feb 16, 2004 Rusher is a leading conservative figure who was publisher of National Review from 1957-1988 In my last dispatch of the goings-on in California, I reported that the Democrats who control the legislature were stonewalling Gov. Schwarzenegger's requests for a $15-billion bond issue to pay for their previous profligacy. They were also blocking a constitutional amendment that would prevent similar behavior in the future by allowing increases in state expenditures only for inflation and population growth. I predicted that the governor would get both, however, by putting them on the...
