Tuesday on CNN’s “New Day,” Gov. John Bel Edwards (D-LA) said President Donald Trump and the federal government response to the impact of Hurricane Harvey on his state has been “excellent.” Edwards said, “Well, first of all, let me tell you the federal government has been excellent. The president has called twice. He signed the declaration we requested within a few hours of our making the request on Sunday evening. Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Duke has been wonderful and FEMA administrator Brock has been great as well.” He added,”What we need right now is really mother nature to cooperate...

Three would-be robbers were shot and killed Monday when an Oklahoma homeowner's son opened fire on them with an AR-15, authorities said. Wagoner County sheriff's deputies were called to the home in Broken Arrow, southeast of Tulsa at around 12:30 p.m. local time. When they arrived, they found the three dead suspects and two uninjured residents.

Editor's note: The following column originally appeared on the website US Defense Watch. It is reprinted with permission. Dear Mr. Khan, I, like millions of Americans saw your speech at the DNC on Thursday night. I wish to offer my sympathy for the death of your son, Captain Humayun Khan, who was killed in action in Iraq. As a former US Army officer, and a veteran of the Gulf War, I can certainly understand the pain and anguish that you and your wife endure every day. Your son died saving the lives of his fellow soldiers. As Jesus told his...

Local and federal authorities were investigating reports Monday that someone left a severed pig's head at a North Philadelphia mosque. An employee at the Al Aqsa Islamic Society mosque found the bloodied head when he arrived around 6 a.m. Monday. Surveillance video at the site, along Germantown Avenue, captured a red pickup truck that drove twice past the mosque just before 11 p.m. Sunday. On its second pass, someone threw an item from the passenger window, the video shows. Pigs are considered insulting to Muslims who observe halal dietary laws.

RUSH: An economist at the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics -- this is an Obama administration official -- is undergoing a review after she apparently sent out a tweet claiming that Christians vote for Nazis. Economist Elizabeth Ashack's Twitter account, sometime over the weekend, appeared to tweet out, "People in the red states vote for Nazis to govern and then call themselves Christian. It will not end well for them." And then she includes the hashtag #BoycottIndiana. They captured the screen shot of the tweet. It was captured by somebody called, S-o-o-p-e-r. Now, the tweet obviously is a...
  • New Jersey Mayor tells feds no ceremony without prayer.

A New Jersey town canceled its ceremony celebrating new U.S. citizens after federal immigration officials would not allow the event to begin with a prayer. According to the Star-Ledger, Carteret Mayor Daniel Reiman had assured U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials that the prayer leading Saturday’s ceremony would be nondenominational. “They refused to budge on that,” Reiman said, the paper reported. The battle came just days after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that local government meetings can include sectarian prayers.
  • It's Excellent That Renewable Energy Doesn't Create Many Green Jobs For Jobs Are A Cost

The Wall Street Journal has an interesting walk through some of the myths about renewable energy. It’s not quite (quite!) as expensive as many think, variability isn’t entirely a killer and so on. But the one that interests me most is the assertion that renewables just don’t seem to be creating that many green jobs: During the 2008 campaign, Barack Obama touted the prospect that investing in clean energy could produce five million “green jobs.” The idea of creating jobs helped underpin the $90 billion clean-energy stimulus in 2009 and later efforts, and remains a staple of administration rhetoric. But...

It's Passover, and although Barack Hussein Obama's lineage is far removed from that of Abraham, the man should at least put a little of the emergency transfusion blood that they bring along in the president's motorcade over the lintels of his door. Mr. Obama's first trip to Israel as president was similar to his Jakarta jaunt in 2010 and his "Return to Moneygall" tour in 2011. In Indonesia, the trip was cut short when Java's Mount Merapi began spewing ash in Air Force One's direction. In Ireland, while revisiting his roots, Obama's limo got hung up on a bump as...

In 1980, when President Reagan asked Americans, "Are you better off now than you were four years ago", it was still possible to campaign on a theme as simple as the job performance of the other guy. But now, 32 years later, the campaign hinges on a much more fundamental split among the voting population. Romney appeals to voters who are dissatisfied with the last four years. Obama appeals to voters who are dissatisfied with America. This basic gap was obscured in the 2008 campaign by the window trappings of inspiration. Among all the plastic pillars and stolen quotes from...

Herman Cain acted swiftly to put an end to speculation over the story about sexual-harassment claims during his tenure at the National Restaurant Association. After a few hours of confused response, Cain admitted that he had been accused, but falsely, of inappropriate conduct. He claimed that an investigation of those accusations showed at the time that they were “baseless,” and he seemed surprised by the news that the trade group settled the claims. “I hope it wasn’t for much,” Cain told Fox News, “because nothing happened”: “I have never sexually harassed anyone, but yes, I was falsely accused while I...

Former Journeyman now among the greatest jockeys ever For Calvin Borel to complete his improbable middle-aged trek from career journeyman to Kentucky Derby legend, all it took was borrowing from Yogi Berra. It was just some deja vu all over again. For the second straight year, Borel, the ebullient 43-year-old Cajun jockey, dominated the Kentucky Derby with a rail-hugging ride that led into the Churchill Downs winner's circle. One year after Borel's dramatic ride on 50-1 long shot Mine That Bird produced one of the most unlikely winners in the Derby history, Borel did it again with trainer Todd Pletcher's...

Yesterday, liberal idiot (redundant) Congressman and Obama superdelegate William Delahunt (Communist, MA) asked the vice president's chief of staff David Addington about water boarding of terrorists in a Capitol Hill hearing. Addington declined to comment, stating that it is against President Bush's policies to discuss techniques used to attain vital intelligence, and added that another reason not to respond was that Al Qaeda is probably watching. Then the liberal scum piece of dirt Delahunt stated: "I'm glad they finally have a chance to see you." Here is a United States Congressman wishing harm from Al Qaeda against a fellow American...
