Facebook has been dragged into an embarrassing row in India after one of its directors said “anti-colonialism” was to blame for the country's economic struggles. Marc Andreessen was accused of endorsing colonial rule by thousands of angry Twitter users on Wednesday after he posted the controversial message on the social media website. The row comes days after India banned a Facebook programme called Free Basics, which offers free but restricted internet access to people in poor, rural areas.

A Black Lives Matter activist killed himself on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse, say the authorities. State Highway Patrol officials tell the Columbus Dispatch that MarShawn M. McCarrel II, 23, shot himself outside the front door of the Statehouse on Monday evening. Lt. Craig Cvetan says McCarrel , who was from the Columbus suburb of Franklin Township, died at the scene. He was not a state employee. Cvetan says it's unclear why McCarrel killed himself. 'We don't have any evidence to know the reason why he did it,' Cvetan said. Authorities say nobody saw the shooting, but the man...
  • Ted Nugent Facebook Post Targets Prominent Jews for Supporting Gun Control

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today condemned a Facebook post by rock musician and gun rights activist Ted Nugent suggesting that prominent Jewish Americans are behind the advocacy for stronger gun control laws. Earlier today, Nugent shared a graphic titled “So who is really behind gun control?” on his Facebook page. The visual featured thumbnail photos of prominent Jewish Americans, including former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Senator Chuck Schumer, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz and several others, with each photo emblazoned with the Israeli flag. The post was accompanied by a written message from Nugent:...

The biggest problem with Rep. Paul's (R-Texas) latest comments on immigration is that they are NOT just some ad hoc thoughts tossed off carelessly at some speaking event. These are engraved in a brand new book. Until the release of the book, Liberty Defined, Dr. Paul had a mixed record in Congress and the fact that he had taken the NumbersUSA "No Amnesty" pledge at the end of his Presidential campaign in 2008. That had earned him a C-minus on our 2012 Presidential Hopefuls Immigration Stances Report Card. Not impressive, but the third best (behind Rep. Bachman with a B-minus...

Pointing to the effects of "horrible" super-PACs, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Sunday said America needs to come up with a solution to keep big money out of politics. "Well, I think you need it, because I think PACs are a horrible thing," Trump said on CNN's "State of the Union" when asked if he would pursue campaign finance reform. The billionaire businessman, who said he is self-financing his campaign, said the wall separating super-PACs and candidates running for public office is illusory. Tea Party-backed Senate candidate Ted Cruz points with pride to the army of small conservative donors supporting him. But his largest longtime contributor is a gay billionaire who supports same-sex marriage and marijuana legalization, campaign finance filings show. Peter Thiel, a German-born hedge fund manager and founder of the online payment system PayPal, gave Cruz $251,000 in 2009 for his aborted run for attorney general. The money represented 19 percent of the total raised for that campaign, which Cruz ended after Attorney General Greg Abbott decided to run for re-election. House says that sort of sale is no different than posting a classified ad in the newspaper. "It has a lot to do with political correctness. A surprise forecast for slower growth this year sent LinkedIn shares into a stomach-turning plunge of almost 44 percent. Dozens of "White Student Union" pages have appeared on Facebook, claiming to represent white students at US universities. While many turned out to be hoaxes, some are run by real students hoping to tackle "anti-white belief" on campuses. The first page created, "Illini White Student Union", was launched in response to a black student solidarity rally on 18 November, according to the University of Illinois' student paper. The page described itself as "a new page for white students of University of Illinois" committed to working "against the terrorism (students) have been facing from Black Lives Matters activists on campus". It...

When an Indiana woman allegedly posted to Facebook that her New Year's Eve meal at a downtown Indianapolis restaurant was ruined "by watching a dead person being wheeled out from an overdose," she probably didn't expect the response she received from the restaurant's manager. Holly Jones is accused of writing on Kilroy's restaurant's Facebook page that she was dining at the restaurant, as she does every year for the holiday, when her table was "screamed at" while trying to figure out a bill discrepancy. "The manager told us someone dying was more important than us being there making us feel...

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes' comments about violence against police officers from other cities has social media buzzing. Here's what he said: "What I suggest, we get the black leadership together, and as these jurisdictions come into Jackson, we throw rocks, bricks and bottles at them. That will send a message we don't want you in here." A couple of local officials have already expressed their displeasure at Stokes' comments - especially the Madison County Sheriff. Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker took to Facebook to send his own message to Stokes. [snip]

HEFER VALLEY, Israel — The new crisp, acidic and mineral white from a high-end Israeli winery was aged for eight months — or, depending on how you look at it, at least 1,800 years. The wine, called marawi and released last month by Recanati Winery, is the first commercially produced by Israel’s growing modern industry from indigenous grapes. It grew out of a groundbreaking project at Ariel University in the occupied West Bank that aims to use DNA testing to identify — and recreate — ancient wines drunk by the likes of King David and Jesus Christ. Eliyashiv Drori, the...
  • Statement from Senator Chris McDaniel regarding President Obama

Senator Chris McDaniel (Facebook post) I don't say this lightly. It's rumored that President Obama is preparing to take executive action on guns within the next few days, after being rebuffed by Congress. Well, if he usurps power that does not belong to him under our system, then it's time for urgent action. We've had enough. If he doesn't respect the document he's sworn to uphold, then he doesn't deserve to hold his office.
