Days after authorities in Zanzibar said men are banned from braiding their hair on the island, Minister of Information, Youth, Culture, and Sports Tabia Maulid Mwita, apologised for the confusion caused by the statement. Mwita said the 2015 law being enforced is meant only for Zanzibar men, not those from outside the isles. Men face a fine of more than U.S.$400, six months in jail, or both, if they break the law. "We find it dangerous to our future generations. This is one form of immorality in Zanzibar, it is a culture which is adopted from outside Zanzibar," executive secretary...

Recently, I saw an image of two women walking down the street. Both of them were wearing a slightly different iteration of the same outfit: high-waisted, knee-length shorts with graphic T-shirts tucked in, and a pair of chunky sneakers. The look is trendy; a perfect encapsulation of the pared down, vintage-inspired aesthetic embraced by GenZ TikTok influencers who seem to take style cues from teen movies released 25 years before they were born. It is, as the kids say, a vibe. The women’s heads are cropped from the photo, leaving them unidentifiable. Based on the trendiness of the clothing alone,...

Washington Post fashion critic Robin Givhan is acting like a very badly disguised editorial writer again. On the front of Friday's Style section, she attacked Trump's fashions in Texas under the headline "Fashion crisis at the border." The headline after the article jumped inside to page C2 was "Trump's choice of attire was a disaster." Liberals love pretending that Obama's only scandal was he once wore a tan suit. But criticizing how this president dresses is easy, low-hanging fruit. It's a yawn. So Givhan has to dress up the fashion chatter with screeds about Trump's fact-mangling and fear-mongering.

Melania Trump wears jacket with 'I really don't care, do u?' on it to visit border facilities On Thursday, Melania Trump made a surprise visit to the Texas border near Mexico. The first lady, whose stylish outfits tend to draw more attention than her actions, seemingly made a conscious decision to wear a subtle outfit for the trip. For a tour of Upbring New Hope, a housing facility for children aged 12 to 17, as well as other meetings throughout McAllen, she wore white jeans, a khaki shirt, and white Stan Smith sneakers. However, her casual look still managed to...

He's not 'one of the guys' on the trail, but he also didn't seem to belong in the Ivy League - or even among politicos The weather has finally cooled a bit, and that can only mean one thing: time for Ted Cruz to dump his ill-fitting suits and ties for his even iller-fitting collection of flannel shirts and leather jackets. The #Cruz Country Christmas Tour (in a private jet) is under way and headed to a town near you.Why does the Texas senator lumberjack around America when the temperature drops? Is he trying to create synergy with the cover...

Matt Taylor, who's a great scientist and seems to also be a pretty cool dude, gave a teary, heartfelt apology for his choice of attire on the day of Rosetta's probe landing. "I made a big mistake, and I offended many people," Taylor said at Friday's media briefing, his voice trembling, "and I'm very sorry about this." With that, the briefing moved onto the science (as it should -- Philae's days are numbered, and we want to find out as much as we can from the little probe that could). Taylor seemed to have trouble speaking for a few minutes,...

Qatar has issued a decree advising tourists that leggings are not considered pants and are not modest enough to wear in public. Leggings have been singled out in pamphlets distributed by the Gulf state as inappropriate attire for tourists in the notoriously strict Islamic country. It's no secret that Michelle Obama loves Tracy Feith - she's been seen wearing his frocks on countless occasions. But there is one design, it seems, that she loves above all others. The U.S. First Lady proved the style staying power of the designer's wisteria print dress, which she first wore in January 2009, at the launch of her Lets Move Childcare campaign. She was pictured playing with children on a visit to the Centronia Bilingual Child Care Center in Washington in the Fifties-style floral number, which she teamed with lavender-coloured flats Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2001606/Michelle-Obamas-got-Feith-steps-favourite-frock-FIFTH-time.html#ixzz1OnfURE8d

Pinto, a favorite designer of Michelle Obama, closes boutique By Shia Kapos Feb. 15, 2010 Despite a recent renaissance that led her gowns to the White House, Mario Pinto's West Side boutique didn't make it. The Chicago fashion designer, whose garments have been favored by first lady Michelle Obama, told industry insiders just a few months ago that her company was thriving and she was considering seeking private-equity investment. But the shop is now shuttered. Neither Ms. Pinto nor her media handler returned calls. Clients were stunned yet not completely surprised by the news, given the economic times. Ms. Pinto...

Finally, Barack Obama has a nomination he doesn't need to push through Congress. The president and First Lady Michelle have been nominated in the category of "Cutest Couple" for the 2010 Nickeloden's Kids' Choice Awards. The Obamas are up against some pop culture juggernauts: Twilight's Edward and Bella, Bella and Jacob and Avatar's Neytiri and Jake. Kevin James is hosting the show, which will be presented at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion on March 27.

Maria Pinto Closes Chicago Boutique. What's Michelle Obama to Wear? by Lesley Kennedy Posted Feb 15th 2010 at 4:26PM (Image not included due to Free Republic rules pertaining to Getty Images) Even designing dresses that turned Michelle Obama into a fashion trendsetter couldn't keep Maria Pinto in business. The designer has closed the doors to her Chicago boutique, reports the Chicago Sun-Times, and she is expected to seek bankruptcy protection this week. Pinto tells the Sun-Times "economic challenges and soft buying trends at the top end of the apparel market" contributed to her business woes. ''I am confident that the 'Maria Pinto' name will not go away,...

At a ceremony at the White House on Tuesday, First Lady Michelle Obama announced the launch of the ‘Let’s Move’ campaign to end childhood obesity in the United States, an epidemic she said is costly and a threat to national security. “A recent study put the health care cost of obesity-related diseases at $147 billion a year,” Mrs. Obama said. “This epidemic also impacts the nation’s security, as obesity is now one of the most common disqualifiers for military service.” The ceremony, attended by many officials of President Barack Obama’s cabinet, followed the signing earlier in the day of a...

So, Michelle Obama seems to be as delusional as her husband. Yesterday, she said that childhood obesity (a Crisis!) is a threat to national security. No, really. She actually said that: (CNSNews.com) – At a ceremony at the White House on Tuesday, First Lady Michelle Obama announced the launch of the ‘Let’s Move’ campaign to end childhood obesity in the United States, an epidemic she said is costly and a threat to national security. “A recent study put the health care cost of obesity-related diseases at $147 billion a year,” Mrs. Obama said. “This epidemic also impacts the nation’s security,...

Michelle Obama is today launching a campaign to tackle childhood obesity in America – while admitting that she loves unhealthy food. The First Lady has urged children to become more active, but confesses to eating burgers, fries, ice-cream and cake. The Let’s Move initiative, outlined by President Barack Obama’s wife today, aims to teach youngsters how to increase their daily physical exercise. It also pushes for schools to offer more healthy meals and calls on food companies to label nutritional information more accurately. Some of her initiatives, such as tax breaks for grocery stores to move into poorly served communities,...
