A Wisconsin man, using a gun licensed under a concealed-carry permit, shot and killed an alleged carjacker in his company’s parking lot, a city official said. The unidentified employee, 24, had just arrived for work at Milwaukee Machine Tool Corp., shortly before 6 a.m. Monday when a man named Carlos Martin, 21, allegedly attempted to carjack him with a gun, Milwaukee city alderman Cavalier Johnson told ABC News. Police have provided few details. The Machine Tool worker had a concealed-carry permit, Johnson said, and used his legal weapon to shoot Martin, who died from his injuries.

A man attempting to rob a T-Mobile store in New Orleans last night didn’t count on an armed customer drawing his concealed weapon and putting him down hard. Right around the time police were investigating the shooting of six people in Central City, officers in the same NOPD district were called to a T-Mobile store in the 500 block of St. Andrew Street. Chief Michael Harrison said a suspect was attempting to rob the store, when a...

Note: This is the original story released about Miss McCarty's gift. Released: June 26, 1995. HATTIESBURG -- Oseola McCarty's lined, brown hands, now gnarled with arthritis, bear mute testimony to a lifetime spent washing and ironing other people's clothes. Less evident is how this quiet, 87-year-old black woman came to donate $150,000 to The University of Southern Mississippi. "I want to help somebody's child go to college," Miss McCarty said. "I just want it to go to someone who will appreciate it and learn. I'm old and I'm not going to live always." McCarty's gift establishes an endowed Oseola McCarty...

Longtime Hollywood publicist Julian Myers will turn 90 soon. And he worries the end may be near ... for Hollywood. Myers frets that the WGA stalemate -- with all of its acrimony, vitriol and job losses -- is a harbinger of ill things for the industry. "The strike impasse is speeding the end of Hollywood filmmaking and television production," says Myers, who has been working in the biz since 1939 and is still an IATSE member. "There are more union contracts coming up for renewal, and already unionists are crossing union lines. IATSE is urging its members to go right...

At least four Vietnam veterans who served together in the early days of US involvement in that conflict will reunite at the Dallas/Fort Worth airport this afternoon. One of the men used the internet to locate the others, and has related tearfully how pleased he was to find his old comrades, all Marines of 2/3* who served in and around Phu Bai (sp?) in the 1964-66 timeframe. While they do not seek publicity for its own sake, they have thought that it would make a good human interest story (my words: they said something like "people might like to hear about it")...
