Donald Trump has renewed his calls for tougher immigration controls in the wake of an illegal Mexican migrant allegedly murdering a woman in San Francisco. The presidential hopeful branded U.S. border controls an 'absolute disgrace' in light of the revelation that Francisco Sanchez, 45, had already been deported five times - and was recently released from jail by officials who routinely refuse requests to hand over illegal immigrants. Sanchez is accused of gunning down Kathryn Steinle, 32, as she walked along Pier 14 with her father on Thursday evening. According to the victim's family, the attack was entirely at random.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A lawyer for San Francisco's sheriff's office says it had no authority to honor an immigration detainer on a suspect in the shooting death of a woman at a popular tourist destination.Francisco Sanchez has seven felony convictions and has been deported five times, most recently in 2009, a federal agency said Friday. He was arrested about an hour after Wednesday's seemingly random slaying of Kathryn Steinle at Pier 14 — one of the busiest attractions in the city.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Donald Trump reignited the call to secure U.S. borders just hours after federal officials said the man arrested in the shooting death of a San Francisco woman was an undocumented immigrant who had previously been deported five times. CBS San Francisco reached out the Donald Trump presidential campaign who then released this written statement: “This senseless and totally preventable act of violence committed by an illegal immigrant is yet another example of why we must secure our border immediately."

The man arrested in connection with the seemingly random killing of a woman who was out for a stroll with her father along the San Francisco waterfront is an illegal immigrant who previously had been deported five times, federal immigration officials say. Further, Immigration and Customs Enforcement says San Francisco had him in their custody earlier this year but failed to notify ICE when he was released.

The man accused of gunning down a 32-year-old Pleasanton woman while she was out strolling San Francisco's Embarcadero with her father was in a Bay Area jail four months ago and should have been turned over to federal immigration officials upon his release, instead of being sent free, according to the Department of Homeland Security. But that's not the way the San Francisco County Sheriff's Legal Counsel Freya Horne sees it. In an interview Friday with NBC Bay Area, she said the city and county of San Francisco are sanctuaries for immigrants, and do not turn over undocumented people –...

It’s bad enough that this beautiful young woman had her life taken from her Wednesday night, just snubbed out in what is being called a random shooting. But what make this worse is that it was done by an illegal from Mexico who had been deported at least five times and had a lengthy criminal record.

Kathryn Steinle had just sent her mother a quintessential San Francisco picture — a photo of her, her father and a family friend on the scenic waterfront of the Embarcadero. But five minutes later, with her father’s arm around her shoulder, the 32-year-old Pleasanton native suddenly collapsed on Pier 14 just south of the Ferry Building. It was 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, and she had been struck in the chest by a bullet.

Ferry Building merchants and managers are fed up with the mayhem that has come with the nearby Occupy SF encampment. A spike in shoplifting, break-ins and reports of abandoned human waste — and a reported drop in foot traffic — has management fuming about the Justin Herman Plaza encampment. There even are reports of occupiers using the building’s restrooms as washrooms — with folks taking sponge baths from toilets. And last Monday, eight men were allegedly escorted out of the building after they attempted to use the bathrooms wearing nothing but their boxer shorts. Property manager Jane Connors has written...

SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco construction worker accused of making false threats to blow up the Golden Gate Bridge, the Ferry Building and an Amtrak station has surrendered to federal officials. Timothy S. Sullivan used his cell phone to call 911 four times on March 10, saying that bombs would explode in the specified locations. "My nail bomb at the Ferry Building will take care of the police," Sullivan allegedly told the operator. The Ferry Building was evacuated because of the threats. A complaint filed in federal court in San Francisco charges that ferries were delayed and rerouted, though...
