FRGC - Tuesday - What if?

FRGC - Tuesday - What if? Last week there was a post from a FReeper asking the question about what to have for weaponry 'just in case'.The 'just in case' could be societal breakdown due to natural disaster (Katrina, Andrew, Camille), or in the never spoken of case, restoration of the republic. Now the second may never happen, at least in our lifetime, but every great society in history has had a breakdown due to corruption, coup, or some charismatic leader manipulating the law until a democracy becomes a tyranical theocracy. So, let's look at what would be a good, economical, group...

FRGC - Tuesday - SNUBBIES!!!

FRGC – Tuesday – SNUBBIES!!!! Today I am going to bring up the subject of the great and small snubby. Although , the snubby comes in a variety of calibers, all the way from 22 Short up to the S&W 500 Mag, and are fairly large for a snubby. The big bore snubbies do provide compact, outright raw power, and any close encounter with critters that bite and scratch would be well defended against with one of these. Snubbies can also be attributed to the small compact autos, all the way up to an including the Colt Officers size and...

Obama’s Aim (Despite the rhetoric, the candidate opposes gun rights)

Denver — In 2007, Senator Barack Obama stood up for a gun owner. He endorsed Chicago Alderman Dorothy Tillman in her Democratic primary. Not only was she a gun owner, but she had even pulled a gun on her colleagues during a contentious 1991 ward redistricting hearing, according to eyewitnesses. Tillman, best known for demanding to be served by black (not white) waiters, and for advocating reparations for slavery, narrowly lost her race despite Obama’s support. It would be only a slight exaggeration to say that this was the strongest effort Obama has ever made to support gun rights......

Free Republic Gun Club – Thursday – Hunting stories.

Free Republic Gun Club – Thursday – Hunting stories. A little off the wall topic today. Most of us who have hunted over the years have a lot of humorous and interesting stories about adventures we have had. Time to share them. One of mine and the one I tell most people is about the time I took a co-worker white-tail hunting in Texas. Now, most of you whitetail hunters out there can attest to how skiddish and supremely paranoid whitetails are. One twig break, and ZOOM, they are gone, and I mean GONE.My co-worker, who had never been hunting before,...

INNOVATIVE (groundbreaking, breakthrough?) NEW FIREARM!

A Revolution In Cartridge Feeding The Boberg XR9 Introducing the world's most powerful 9mm pocket-sized pistol. Summary Basically, the XR9 is a pocket pistol with a full length barrel, having the magazine located directly under the chamber. The patent-pending feed mechanism grabs a cartridge from the magazine and delivers it straight into the chamber. This allows the chamber clearance to be significantly less, causing less energy and noise to blast out the back. With this combination, kinetic energy is maximized, and in many cases will exceed the energy produced in full-sized pistols. Just an FYI to all of you out...

Choosing Your First 1911

The first problem of choosing a 1911 is narrowing down the field of bewildering candidates. It's a process of elimination. The 1911 performs many shooting tasks extremely well, but it is often modified from it's basic format to perform some better than others. Knowing your reasons for wanting a 1911 as well as your intended purpose for it's use can narrow the field of candidates quickly. Do you want the 1911 to have one in your collection? Yes, that's a valid reason. Do you admire the tradition and the history? Another valid reason. If these are your reasons, then a...

Daley promises to fight to keep handgun ban

Mayor Richard Daley was adamant Friday about Chicago's intention to defend its handgun ban in court, despite news that a second area suburb was likely to repeal its ordinance next week. Morton Grove, which along with Chicago and other communities was sued by the National Rifle Association, is poised to repeal its first-in-the-nation handgun ban next week. Wilmette already has suspended its handgun ordinance in the wake of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision striking down a similar law in Washington. "Morton Grove can do anything that it wants," Daley said at an unrelated news conference. "I don't look at...

Pregnant bystander may have been grazed by deputies' gunfire

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies who fired multiple shots at a man they were chasing in East Los Angeles late Friday afternoon may have grazed a pregnant bystander, authorities and a relative of the woman said Saturday. The incident began about 5 p.m. when deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at Fetterly Avenue and 6th Street, said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore. When deputies arrived, a man pulled out of a nearby driveway and crashed head-on into the deputies' patrol car, he said. The deputies later told investigators that they fired twice at the man...

Chicago firearms ban may test court ruling

Chicago firearms ban may test court ruling City leaders fear decision may void restriction on guns in the Windy City CHICAGO — One small reflection of Chicago's bloody year is a sign outside a South Side elementary school that says, "Congratulations Class of 2008. Stop the Violence." In a city where homicide rates have risen by 13 percent over the same period last year and gunfire killed 26 students in the past school year, Mayor Richard Daley thinks the Supreme Court majority that overturned a Washington, D.C., gun ban last month is detached from urban reality. "If they think that's...

Firearms confiscated but not returned.

Hurricane Katrina moved Louisiana's government to suspend the second amendment when it declared a state of emergency. Firearms were confiscated by force of law and military power. When the state of emergency was lifted, the second amendment was not restored, and the people's firearms were not returned. A Federal district court ruled that guns confiscated would not be returned to their rightful owners. We're talking about legal firearm owners here. Common sense dictates that removing firearms from legal owners leaves only the criminals in possession of firearms, emergency or no. The Associated Press reported that some police officers asked if...

A Nation of Riflemen First Needs Men (MUST READ!)

Early in World War II, Japan considered invading the mainland of the United States. Admiral Isoroku Yamoto, commander in chief of the Japanese naval forces and architect of the Pearl Harbor bombing, advised against invading. Twenty years prior, Admiral Yamoto had spent a few years in the United States studying at Harvard University. Based on his experience with American culture, Admiral Yamoto reportedly told his government, “I would never invade the United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.” Admiral Yamoto’s observation speaks to the heart of America’s uniqueness. The Admiral observed, in essence, that America...

Justices Rule for Individual Gun Rights (Detail: NRA To Sue in Liberal Cities)

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court declared for the first time on Thursday that the Constitution protects an individual’s right to have a gun, not just the right of the states to maintain militias. Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for the majority in the landmark 5-to-4 decision, said the Constitution does not allow “the absolute prohibition of handguns held and used for self-defense in the home.” In so declaring, the majority found that a gun-control law in the nation’s capital went too far by making it nearly impossible to own a handgun.... The National Rifle Association and other supporters of rights to...

The brief further says that the ban of a whole class of firearms is unconstitutional. Then it goes on to say that MODERN WEAPONS are protected by the 2A just like modern media devices. In further reading, the decision is somewhat bipolar. On one hand it says that an entire class of weapons cannot be banned and then it says that modern weapons are protected by the 2A and then it goes on to say that since machine guns are not “typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes” or “in common use” they CAN be banned.
Advice Ruger Mini-30 firing pin keeps breaking on a brand new gun.

Based on the valuable input from a previous thread, I picked up a brand new Ruger Mini-30. Right out of the box I had the sad experience of pulling the trigger and no bang. I send it back to the factory, waited long 3 weeks and got it back with a note that they had replaced the firing pin. Took it out yesterday and got 5 shots off before the pin broke again. Can’t blame cheap ammo, I’m using USA made Winchester. Is Ruger using glass firing pins? Is something misaligned in the action causing extra stress on the pin?

A True Threat To Freedom (NRA President on Barack Obama)
[MUST READ]

Right now, one of the most anti-gun politicians ever to set foot in Washington, D.C., may be just one election away from the Oval Office—and far too few gun owners realize the true threat to freedom this candidate represents. No, it’s not Hillary Clinton—we already know how bad she is. It’s Senator Barack H. Obama, D-Ill., the man who promises “change” while pretending to offer “hope.” But exactly what kind of “change” is Obama “hoping” for?
The Virginia Citizens Defense League joined in the discussion over whether to bring firearms into town hall. A recently posted sign requesting that guns not be brought into Boones Mill town hall sparked controversy at a town council meeting Tuesday night -- and drew the attention of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. But, in the end, debate over the Second Amendment paled in comparison to other, more personal issues, the likes of which have repeatedly plagued the council's notoriously volatile meetings. Last week, incumbent mayor E.V. "Ben" Flora won re-election over challenger Robert Hogan by a vote of 40 to...

Wal-Mart clerks would thus be alerted and could refuse to make another sale. The recorded images will also be made available to law enforcement as part of any investigation. The move seems to be an understandable, even commendable a step toward plugging any leaks in the system.
Colt's grip on military rifle criticized

And for well over a decade, the military has relied on one company, Colt Defense of Hartford, Conn., to make the M4s they trust with their lives. Now, as Congress considers spending millions more on the guns, this exclusive arrangement is being criticized as a bad deal for American forces as well as taxpayers, according to interviews and research conducted by The Associated Press. "What we have is a fat contractor in Colt who's gotten very rich...
