  • Gingrich Hits Romney on Gun Tax Increase

    The Truth About Guns ^ | 10 January, 2012 | Dan Zimmerman
Continuing his full frontal assault on Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich (looking thoroughly befuddled by that thing he’s holding, above) lit into the a-little-too-perfectly coiffed former Massachusetts governor for raising taxes on guns by 400% when he was the Bay State executive. Sticklers for the truth that they are, points out that, “the ‘tax’ Gingrich refers to was in fact a fee on gun licenses that Romney raised in 2003 as part of his administration’s effort that year to scour the tax code for loopholes it could close and fees it could hike to close a budget deficit.” Thanks for...

A young Oklahoma mother shot and killed an intruder to protect her 3-month-old baby on New Year's Eve, less than a week after the baby's father died of cancer. Sarah McKinley says that a week earlier a man named Justin Martin dropped by on the day of her husband's funeral, claiming that he was a neighbor who wanted to say hello. The 18-year-old Oklahoma City area woman did not let him into her home that day. On New Year's Eve Martin returned with another man, Dustin Stewart, and this time was armed with a 12-inch hunting knife. The two soon...

There’s several well known anti-firearms rights groups that highlight the number of children shot by guns in its anti-gun rights messages. But, there’s the fact that many of that number of those "children" use guns to commit crimes and got themselves shot or killed. Its undeniable that lumped into that group of “children” in a misleading way are those criminal teenagers who are counted as “children," age 13 to 19, in their statistics when they are shot. Many of those “children” are gangbangers or other assorted teenage criminals who do their criminal business with guns just as their adult criminal...

Americans buy record numbers of guns for Christmas Americans bought record numbers of guns last month amid an apparent surge in popularity for weapons as Christmas presents. By Nick Allen, Los Angeles 7:17PM GMT 01 Jan 2012 According to the FBI, over 1.5 million background checks on customers were requested by gun dealers to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System in December. Nearly 500,000 of those were in the six days before Christmas. It was the highest number ever in a single month, surpassing the previous record set in November. On Dec 23 alone there were 102,222 background checks,...
  • Mystery Company Is Rapidly Acquiring U.S. Gun and Ammo Manufacturers

Reports that a mysterious company has been buying up U.S. gun manufacturers have been popping up on the internet for several months. When we first learned of the possibility that a single company was rapidly acquiring companies like Bushmaster, Remington, and Marlin Firearms we immediately suspected that something was amiss. Apparently, we were not alone, because others were thinking the same thing. One rumor that popped up was that global financier George Soros, historically an anti-gun advocate, was behind the moves, and that he was positioning the gun industry to reduce pro-gun lobbying efforts. This prompted the National Rifle Association...

I am looking to buy a rifle that would serve two purposes: primarily a long-distance shooter and secondarily a larger game taker downer :-) I like to shoot beyond 600 yards and I want a rifle to suit that purpose. From info I've gathered, I should get a larger-calibered rifle, with at least a 24" barrel. I would like to keep the rifle below 10lbs because I also want to hunt with it some day. I am interested in hunting elk and moose, eventually. So I am thinking of a .308.

In my quest to obtain a legal gun in Washington, D.C., I've gone to the registry office, taken a 5-hour course, filled out paperwork and met with the city’s only dealer. I’ve now fulfilled any requirements that can be done before giving the city the serial number of my new gun, so it is time to decide what to buy.

Read the column the UK's Daily Mail pulled for being too dangerous Dan Mitchell of the Cato Institute in the United States has raised a very interesting issue for those who believe that a complete collapse of European society is inevitable. Mitchell wrote a piece titled 'European Economic Crisis Highlights an Increasingly Important Reason to Oppose Gun Control' where he argued that many of the not so rich in Europe may need to arm themselves for personal protection in anticipation of a possible economic collapse. I agree. Here is how the Mitchell argument plays out. He writes about his first...

A rather interesting speech by the Dutch Chief of Defense, Peter van Uhm, on the role of firearms, military force, and constitutional government in creating a more peaceful world. Quite a bit of what he said is open to interpretation, and could be seen as supporting different viewpoints, but in any event, I thought it was still a fascinating speech, and certainly worth watching. And yes, it's in English.

At least someone is making money in these difficult times. Arms dealers in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley are making out like, well, bandits as unrest in Syria sends black market gun prices through the roof says this story in Lebanon’s Daily Star. Rocket grenade launchers appear to be the hottest investment grade item, with prices more than sextupling from $400 to $2500 in recent months. Kalashnikovs and M16s are also up sharply, with 75 percent appreciation on the Russian guns and 100 percent on the US model. Perhaps more investments in Lebanese arms dealer funds could rescue US state and municipal...

Scandal: Refusing to apologize to the family of a border patrol killed by a gun "walked" into Mexico, the attorney general hides his prior knowledge and blames Congress for not pushing gun control. Holder must reside in a parallel universe with an alternate and quite flexible timeline. His recollection of what he knew and when he knew it must depend on the meaning of "knew." In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, Holder said he "first learned about the tactics and the phrase 'Operation Fast and Furious' at the beginning of this year — I think when it...

MASON, Texas (AP) — On a YouTube clip that has gone viral, brash Texas handgun instructor Crockett Keller defiantly tells Muslims and non-Christian Arabs he won’t teach them how to handle a firearm. State officials see the ad as possible discrimination, and may revoke Keller’s instructor license. Tens of thousands of YouTube viewers have watched the $175 ad for Keller’s business in the small community of Mason, which has won him a handful of admirers but that embarrassed locals say misrepresents their community. Muslim groups dismissed the 65-year-old as a bigot. Among the couple of thousand residents in the Central...

Federal firearms officials are hoping a $10,000 reward will help them find the person who stole 70 handguns and a rifle from a retired St. Louis police officer's home. The same home was burglarized of about 8,000 rounds of ammunition a month ago. He said most of the ammunition was for assault rifles, not for the guns stolen.
