City officials are investigating after someone at a South Florida fire station didn't hide his views about the President. According to a Pompano Beach spokesperson, a firefighter at the station off Sample Road and Northeast 16th Street was told to remove some anti-Barack Obama bumper stickers from his locker because of a complaint. The firefighter then removed the stickers. Last week, fire department administrators found out that toilet paper with Obama's face on it was being used at the fire station.

    – The Florida chapter of a well known Muslim organization is asking the Broward School Board’s diversity committee to consider adding two Islamic holidays to the school calendar. At a meeting Thursday night, members of the Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR, asked that Eid al-Fitr – the end of Ramadan – and Eid-al Adha, which marks the end of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, be considered holidays for Muslim students. If approved, Broward County would be the first school district in Florida, and one of only a few in the country to add the holidays, which would...

Don't expect early voting to be extended in Florida this go-round. Charlie Crist agreed to extend early voting by four hours for six days in Florida because of long lines, a similar plea this year to add an extra day for densely populated counties isn’t seeing a similar response. A spokesman for the secretary of state said no voters will be turned away as long as they are in line before the polls close during a scheduled early voting day or on Election Day. But otherwise he didn’t respond to the extension request from a couple of Democrats and the...

The Herald reports the ad has been in heavy rotation since at least Tuesday, citing anecdotal evidence: "[T]he spot that aired three times in one prime time Spanish-language news program Tuesday and at least four times on the same show Wednesday -- including twice in the same commercial break." Former state Sen. Dan Gelber, D-Miami Beach, called on Gov. Rick Scott today to extend early voting through Sunday. The eight-day early voting period is scheduled to end Saturday. Gelber, who ran unsuccessfully for attorney general in 2010, said the fact that the Legislature cut the early voting period from 14 days to eight days coupled with the “absurd length of the ballot” _ which the Legislature used to place 11 constitutional amendments on _ have lead to long lines and delays for Florida voters. Gelber said extending the early-voting period for another day “won’t solve this problem, (but) it...

Apparently, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz doesn't believe the rules apply to her. In Florida yesterday, the Congresswoman was asked to stop blocking traffic into a parking lot in front of a polling location. According to reports, this led to Wasserman-Schultz not only arguing with a police officer, but she abused her power by "making a phone call" to a higher authority to try and intimidate the officer into letting her break the rules. A group of sign-waving campaign ralliers comprised of both Democrat and Republican supporters outside an Aventura, Florida polling location witnessed Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz get involved in...

The phony letters have been reported in 23 counties so far in an apparent attempt to intimidate voters, Department of State spokesman Chris Cate said Tuesday. --SNIP-- The letters purport to come from various Florida county supervisors of elections but all were postmarked from Seattle. The markings were traced to the Seattle Sectional Facility. They tell voters that information received from the state Division of Elections indicates their citizenship...

COCOA -- City leaders approved an ordinance to make sure folks pick up their saggy pants when they're walking in certain public areas. Tuesday night the city council approved a measure prohibiting saggy pants on certain parts of public property. There was some opposition from the public as the ordinance was approved. The move -- according to the city -- gives police the power to fine violators, with the goal of improving the city's image. Read more at:

The main battlegrounds: Ohio,...

Talk about the law of unintended consequences . . . On today's Morning Joe, Willie Geist interviewed an audience member sporting a T-shirt reading "Mika Made Me A Republican." The good-natured fellow explained that his daughters had made the T-shirt for him, that he was an independent who had voted for Perot, and that he watches Morning Joe daily because he likes to hear what the other side has to say. Whatever it was that Mika has been saying, it has apparently driven him into the Romney camp. View the video here.

Underscoring the deep concern surrounding Palm Beach County’s latest election snafu, Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner is sending two observers here on Monday as workers begin an unprecedented process of duplicating an estimated 27,000 absentee ballots. In a letter to Elections Supervisor Susan Bucher late Friday, Detzner said he is sending two deputies to “observe and examine the registration and election processes and the condition, custody and operation of voting systems and equipment.” The deputies, he wrote, are empowered to “supervise the preparation of the voting equipment and procedures for the election.” Both will report their findings to him...
