    F. Lee Bailey, the attorney who represented O.J. Simpson and Patty Hearst, had been denied his request to practice law in Maine. The 79-year-old Bailey passed the Maine bar exam last winter. He was previously licensed in Massachusetts and Florida, but was disbarred in those states for mishandling $6 million worth of stock for a client.

    Updated: A Massachusetts lawmaker who agreed to plead guilty to casting invalid absentee ballots in 2009 and 2010 has submitted his resignation letter. State Rep. Stephen Smith submitted a letter dated Monday to the state's top election official, Secretary William Galvin. Galvin said Tuesday Smith's signed letter states, "I respectfully decline to accept this office."
