A suburban Dallas school district grabbed national attention in 2012 when it opened an eye-popping $60 million high school football stadium. Not to be outdone, school officials near Houston next year plan to unveil a $62 million stadium-development plan. And a district north of Dallas is considering spending more than $50 million on its own football arena.

After a Tulane University fraternity built a wall with the Donald Trump slogan "Make America Great Again" written across it as satire, now a group of whining college students are petitioning the university, saying the wall is "overtly threatening" to Muslim and Hispanic students. The Hayride reported late yesterday how the Kappa Alpha fraternity erected their annual wall with a Donald Trump slogan to be satirical. A Super Bowl championship might seem to be the crowning achievement in the life of a football coach but sometimes laudable leadership can be found in the midst of a crisis when wins and losses at that moment pale in comparison to life and death.Such a juncture occurred recently when John Harbaugh, the coach of the Baltimore Ravens who led them to a world championship in 2012, endured a sleepless night after learning that 23-year-old Tray Walker, a promising defensive back on his team, was critically injured while riding a dirt bike that collided with an SUV in Liberty City,...

The New York Jets have agreed to pay nearly $324,000 to settle a class-action lawsuit filed by cheerleaders over wages. The suit was filed in Bergen County, New Jersey, where the NFL team plays. The 52 women said they were paid $150 per game and issued uniforms. But they said they were not paid for practices and other work and were forced to pay for their makeup, hair care and transportation.

Not too cold today. It is up to 35F here at 8500 ft elevation west of Denver. There may be some rain/snow toward the end of the game. I wonder if Patriots have been practicing at elevation to acclimate---probably. If the Broncos keep dropping the ball they don't have a chance. If they play well it could go either way. Got beer in the fridge.

For the first time in NFL history, a black quarterback could be named the sole MVP of the league this year. If Cam Newton can hold off Carson Palmer and Tom Brady, then Newton will become the first African-American quarterback to be named the sole winner of the award (Steve McNair was co-MVP in 2003). One of the things that makes Newton so good is his ability to run. The 26-year-old has rushed for 626 yards in 2015, which leads all NFL quarterbacks. Newton's ability to run and the ability of other black quarterbacks -- like Tyrod Taylor and Russell...

Quarterbacks have all the leverage in the NFL when it comes to contract negotiations. But Sam Bradford's reported demands from the Eagles were a bit out of whack with the current market. Appearing on NFL Insiders Wednesday, ESPN's Jim Trotter reported, via The Big Lead, that Bradford wanted a whopper from Philly in his most recent contract chatter, asking for $25 million a year when discussing a contract with Chip Kelly.

The NFL are 'on track' to deliver a permanent UK-based American football franchise within the next six years, spokesman Mark Waller has insisted. Since 2007, London's Wembley Stadium has been home to the National Football League's International Series by hosting regular-season matches. Jacksonville Jaguars ‒ who are owned by Shahid Khan, the Fulham owner ‒ have played a game a season there since 2013 and now a permanent move for an NFL team appears to be likely.
