By Josef Adalian Published: January 01, 2010 Peace is at hand in the standoff between Time Warner Cable and Fox, with both sides announcing a new carriage deal after marathon negotiations that streched into the New Year.
Fox, Time Warner negotiations go beyond midnight deadline (3 hour extension)

Negotiations between Fox and Time Warner Cable continued beyond a midnight deadline. The two television giants were negotiating over fees in Los Angeles. They had agreed to a three-hour extension beyond the deadline, Fox-owned WOFL-Channel 35 announced shortly before midnight.Time Warner represents programming partner Bright House Networks, which serves 850,000 subscribers in Central Florida. The three-hour extension means the Fox signal will stay on Bright House at least until 3 a.m. With no deal, Fox could go dark on Bright House as the new year begins.
John Kerry Warns News Corp Against Fox Blackout

Phone, cable and broadcast companies can get away with a lot in DC, but they best not stand between a man and his football games. As we noted yesterday, Time Warner Cable and News Corporation are engaged in a retransmission fee fight that could wind up with Fox programming being pulled from Time Warner Cable's channel lineup. This apparently displeases football fan and U.S. Senator John Kerry, who sent a letter to News Corp. warning them that Uncle Sam would step in if Fox programming is disrupted later on today

Time Warner Cable/FOX Stand-Off Reaches 11th Hour

The impasse between FOX broadcast network and Time Warner Cable continues with less than a day remaining before the cable provider knocks the network and its cable outlets off the dial. And as each side ratchets up the rhetoric, neither seem willing to show compromise. Could Fox really be gone from homes with Time Warner Cable tomorrow? The Wall Street Journal explains where things are at right now: The crux of tensions is a $1 monthly fee News Corp is seeking for local Fox TV stations it owns from each Time Warner Cable TV household. While several owners of broadcast...

Here's the second part of our look back at cable news ratings over the last decade. We've charted the total day numbers, and here are the numbers for primetime. Again, Fox News' rise is most noticeable, as is the bump the election gave CNN and MSNBC. The charts track each network's Nielsen primetime ratings average for each of the last 10 years, from Dec. 27, 1999 - Dec. 23, 2009. After the jump, the A25-54 demo.

As their competitors in cable news fall far behind, FNC looks toward the rest of the cable universe as its new competition – it finished in the top five on all of cable in prime time and total day. What was the reason for FNC’s success? Heres’ five reasons. 1: Glenn Beck: Beck’s enormous success during his...

Fox News will finish 2009 as the top-rated cable news network, a perch it has enjoyed for eight years running. But 2009--the first year of the Obama administration--also marks FNC's highest rated year in the channel's 13-year-history. FNC topped the competition in all dayparts: morning (1 million total viewers, 340,000 viewers in news' target demographic of 25-54-year-olds); total day (1.2 million viewers, 323,000 in the demo); primetime (2.2 million viewers, 551,000 in the demo). Nancy Morgan For the millions of Americans who don't watch Fox News or listen to talk radio, the answer is a resounding yes. Last Friday, November 20, evidence came to light that "appears to show a conspiracy to falsify data and suppress academic debate in order to exaggerate the possible threat of man-made global warming." Translation: The global warming movement rests almost entirely on the IPCC's claim to represent the "consensus" of climate science.
The Justice Department and President Obama are not calling the murders an act of terror. Why? A) Obama doesn’t want to admit an act of terror occurred on his watch. B) Just like he renamed the "War on Terror" an "overseas contingency operation," Obama has his own definition of terror. C) Obama is afraid the label "act of terror" will enflame the Muslim world.
