At the end of "Opening Bell" on FBN, anchor and VP of Business News Alexis Glick announced it would be her last broadcast on the network. "I want you guys to know that today will be my last day here at the Fox Business Network," she said. "How many people can say that they've had the opportunity to help build a brand new network. Being the first new employee of FBN. Seeing it grow today to over 300 extraordinarily talented people. It's been an experience of a lifetime." "I'm about to embark on a new venture that's going to allow...

Geraldo Threatens to Quit If FOX News Hires Lou Dobbs

Over the weekend, the Daily News reported that Fox News host Geraldo Rivera has told Fox News founder and chairman Roger Ailes he'll quit if Ailes hires Lou Dobbs. Rivera tells Rush & Molloy, "I never threatened to quit," adding, "The last time I checked, no one here was talking to the a-—." A rep for Ailes concurs, telling the paper he isn't looking to add Dobbs to either FNC or FBN. And all this reminded us about a situation a few years ago just after Rivera signed a reported 6-year $36m contract with NBC. In August, 1998 Newsweek reported...

Ed Schultz's Next Target (Fox News Creams MSNBC at 6 p.m. weeknights)

This series of posts is dedicated to the proposition that 90 percent of everything Ed Schultz, the host of MSNBC's The Ed Show, does is motivated by envy (and the same could be said of the Left). Schultz has raged against his more successful colleagues Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and Glenn Beck. The folks at Politico give an indication of who Schultz's next target may be: Bret Baier of Fox News' "Special Report." A side-by-side comparison with Ed's direct competitor is damning:

Hi all, Just wanted to clear a few things up- someone posted a thread about watching our Fox News live stream at the Underground and said that you needed REALPlayer to view the stream..well you don't. There are three streams available for Fox News..and only one of them requires REALPlayer. There are links on the page to the other streams which are flash streams. The whole reason I created the website was because of the lack of good quality streams currently out there..that way if one of the streams on the Underground goes dead, you have immediate access to one...

Fox says Time Warner Cable may drop Fox TV shows (Fox News OK -- NFL broadcasts out)

News Corp warned that testy carriage negotiations with Time Warner Cable Inc could leave viewers unable to see programing from its Fox broadcast network, including it blockbuster hit "American Idol" and NFL football. Negotiations between the two sides have been primarily held up by a disagreement over the value of Fox's free-to-air broadcast network. Fox is asking Time Warner Cable for around $1 a subscriber in payment for the retransmission rights to carry its network, according to a person familiar with the talks. Time Warner Cable executives have balked at paying that much and have claimed that negotiations with...

As their competitors in cable news fall far behind, FNC looks toward the rest of the cable universe as its new competition – it finished in the top five on all of cable in prime time and total day. What was the reason for FNC’s success? Heres’ five reasons. 1: Glenn Beck: Beck’s enormous success during his...

When Fox News executives went looking to replace Brit Hume last year, they had to find someone to take over for their franchise newsman, the staid and steady Washington hand whose arrival in 1996 had conferred instant legitimacy on the upstart network. But the network turned not to another Hume, not a traditional anchor-desk presence or deep-voiced TV vet, but to Bret Baier — sunny, serious, self-deprecating and approachable. Eight years ago, he was holding down the network’s bureau in Atlanta.
Cable News Ratings: Fox News Has Highest Rated Year In Network History

Fox News will finish 2009 as the top-rated cable news network, a perch it has enjoyed for eight years running. But 2009--the first year of the Obama administration--also marks FNC's highest rated year in the channel's 13-year-history. FNC topped the competition in all dayparts: morning (1 million total viewers, 340,000 viewers in news' target demographic of 25-54-year-olds); total day (1.2 million viewers, 323,000 in the demo); primetime (2.2 million viewers, 551,000 in the demo). Those numbers mark year-to-year demo gains of 14% in the morning, 16% in total day and 10% in primetime (Mon-Sun), according to Nielsen. FNC saw double-digit...

Passing the Proposed Drug Amendment Could Be Harmful to Your Health

For days now, the health care legislation in the Senate has been stalled. Democrats are divided over a proposed amendment that would let consumers buy pharmaceuticals from abroad. During the presidential campaign, Obama promised to allow such purchases. But earlier this year he announced his opposition in return for pharmaceutical companies promising to spend at least $150 million, and possibly as much as $200 million, to push his health care legislation. President Obama obviously faces a dilemma: either he keeps the campaign promise he made to voters or he keep his later promise to drug companies. Passing the proposed drug...

The broadcasting entertainers Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, while influential with conservatives, Republican strategists explain, aren’t officeholders or political decision makers. Jim DeMint is.The Republican senator from South Carolina is a force moving the party to the right on big issues. He is actively endorsing conservative insurgents over established party candidates from Florida to California. He’s a favorite of the grass-roots “tea party” brigade and Fox News. His growing appeal is such that party insiders even talk about him as a potential presidential candidate. Some conservatives are nuanced: libertarian conservatives, compassionate conservatives, neo-conservatives; not the 58-year-old Mr. DeMint. He goes right...

Fox Anchors Debunk Lefty Claim Network’s an 'Organ' of GOP in Grilling Grassley, Schock for Earmarks

One of the favorite talking points that often comes from Fox News detractors is the claim that the News Corp (NASDAQ:NWSA) cable news is somehow an organ of the Republican Party. It's a claim that former White House Communications Director Anita Dunn made, along with countless other accusations from prominent Democrats. However, these Democrats would be doing themselves and their audiences a favor to take notice of two Fox News anchors, "Your World" host Neil Cavuto and the weekend edition of "America's News HQ" co-host, Gregg Jarrett.
