Last time I checked the calendar, it was still not 6/6/6 -- which means we're more than a month shy of the apocalypse. Yet when you see the political left and right coalesce on anything having to do with the White House, you're left to wonder: What could cause such an event of biblical proportions? Two words: Tony Snow. Snow is the Bush administration's new press secretary. So let the gravitas flow freely: Apparently one man is seen as worthy -- and, get this, from both sides of the aisle.

Charleston Mercury - Our Endorsements Published: Wednesday, June 4, 2008 7:07 PM EDT On June 10, voters go to primary polling places of their choice. We have strong feelings about some races and will advise accordingly.[snip] As noted, we do have some vigorous opinions about other incumbents, so welcome to our political quiz to answer these questions: What local elected official supported the following or is characterized as follows: 1) Congressman James Clyburn’s proposed ten-mile bridge[snip] 2) The most recent Farm Bill [snip] 3) ...voted only eight percent of the time for anti-pork legislation in 2007. As you know, the...

Athol Republican begins race against Donelan Recorder Staff View all comments (14) Published: Thursday, June 05, 2008 Republican Robert E. Parks of Athol has formally announced his candidacy to challenge Democratic incumbent Christopher Donelan's re-election bid to the Second Franklin District seat in the state House of Representatives. The 49-year-old former graphics designer at the Fox television network in California, and a former producer and production manager at Athol-Orange Community Television, abandoned an effort to circulate nomination papers in 2006, saying he didn't have enough time to gather the 150 signatures needed. But Parks, a Boston native who moved to...

Katherine Jenerette says she has entered the Republican primary for the First District Congressional seat out of frustration with the GOP. "The Democrats have a home team advantage now," Jenerette says, "and Republicans need a congressman who can go toe-to-toe with them. We've had a Republican Congress for six years, and we can have more of the same or we can have someone in there that will make a difference. "I am not afraid to say what needs to be said and push legislation for family and values, fiscal responsibility, national security and subjects like immigration and border control. Republicans...

We have a three way Republican Primary in South Carolina’s First Congressional District. Henry Brown is an incumbent Congressman running for this fifth term. I really have no feelings toward Brown one way or the other. He isn’t one to show up in the media much. He received a rating of 96 from the American Conservative Union for 2007, not too shabby and he’s been involved in government for about 27 years, starting in the city council, moving up to state office and then Federal. He has two challengers in the primary. The first, Paul Norris, is the President of...

Hey All of Y'all (proper plural)! I hope this note finds each of you well. I just wanted to let you know that I'm co-hosting a political show (I think the name is "The Boiling Point") on Chicago radio. Here's the info: Thursdays 1:00-1:30 Listen Live - http://www.whpk.org/stream/ As today is our first stab, we might be lacking some of the political sound bites and music clips that would be desirable, but the show will still be engaging and thought-provoking. I'm sure by the second week, we'll iron out all those kinks and have everything organized. I'm just along for...

Happy New Year's Eve to all at Free Republic!!! Make your predictions for 2008. Good Luck!!!

Every year or two I like to ask the question to other Freepers. When did you register with Free Republic? What brought you here? What keeps bringing you back?

Another chaotic day in the swamp.

An adult stepdaughter of a former Republican congressional candidate said his failure to acknowledge her on a Web site contributed to her decision to contact authorities with allegations he sexually assaulted her throughout her childhood. Tanya Jenerette-Begg told The Sun News on Friday that she "couldn't sit back and let his wife and him sit in a political arena." The Sun News does not normally publish names of possible sexual assault victims. Jenerette-Begg agreed to be interviewed. Her stepfather, Van Jenerette, who lost a bid for a 1st Congressional District seat to Henry Brown in 2000, was charged Thursday with...

Dinky McDougal and I live on half of a Florida hammock, daughter and her family on the other half. I wanted my daughter to make some payments for me, left a check on the desk, door is usually unlocked anyway, and ran up to the C store at I-95. When I got back I could hear snarling and growling through the door, opened it anyway, and there he sat. He calmed right down, but, in my email I found this; "take care of it first thing in the morning. Your darn psycho cat just chased me outta your house by...

Freeper Fantasy Hockey anyone?? It's FREE!...and fun!!! I did this a couple of seasons ago with other freepers and it was a blast! Missed a couple seasons because of deployment, but I am ready to make another Freeper leauge if anyone is interested. It would be a Head to Head league on Yahoo!, with playoffs at the end of the season. Probably an auto draft, as it would be difficult to get everyone on the same schedule. Ping this thread or send me mail if you are interested. Should be fun!! -fb

We've received many requests from freepers requesting that other freepers not post to them. There are several problems with this. 1. It's impossible for us to enforce.2. We don't have the time to enforce these requests.3. We don't have the software to keep track of these requests.4. Thick skin helps.5. Ignore the poster, if you don't reply, they won't reply. Free Republic does not need a bozo filter, bozo filters are for wimps. Final note: Trolls, troublemakers, disruptors, forum pests, malcontents, RINOs, liberals, stalkers, et al, would continue posting to (harassing) someone after being asked to stop. Conservative FReepers would...

I often wondered what exactly makes a FReeper a FReeper? Is it the simple act of reading articles on FR? Do you have to post articles or replies? To call yourself a FReeper do you need to engage in effective activism like writing letters to politicians, getting out in the street to carry signs, or, is being a FReeper an attitude. If so, what attitude is that? Knock yourself out.

I spoke to Grandeagle's wife two nights ago. I wanted to let all of you who sent prayers and well wishes to know that she was very touched by your kind words. I wanted to let you know briefly, how much your prayers have been working. She told me, first, that she and the children are doing pretty well. They've had the support of family and friends. (If you have not taken time to arrange a person to help your survivors, do so. It is hard for a grieving person to be aware of how to handle so many difficult...

Freeway Sweeper Swiped CHP officials puzzled by overnight theft of large vehicle from Anaheim Caltrans lot. By Kimberly Edds The Orange County Register ANAHEIM – A freeway sweeper disappeared from a Caltrans yard overnight and the theft has authorities scratching their heads. "Strange things have disappeared over the years," said officer Denise Quesada of the California Highway Patrol. "But the bigger question is, why?" The sweeper, used to clear litter off freeways and keep it out of storm drains, was taken from the California Department of Transportation lot at Brookhurst Street and the Riverside (91) Freeway sometime after workers left...

I'm reading an astonishing number of comments on Free Republic these days by posters who have joined the ranks of the anti-American left in calling for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. Some claim to have military experience, some claim to be patriotic Americans and some claim to be smarter than the rest. These posters are joining the Murtha-Rangel-McDermott treason caucus. Oh, they say they love the troops, but their decision to abandon them in the field speaks otherwise.Three years ago, the United States led an international coalition to rid the world of one of the worst regimes on the planet. Saddam...

Are you the poster who embodies the caricature that left-wingers have established of Freepers? I just wasted an hour viewing some left-wing sites, and I noticed a lot of Freeper-bashing. I've noticed this before, of course; but it got me to wondering who exactly they're talking about. The DU'ers, etc have plenty of negative adjectives for and descriptions of Freepers, but they never specify who exactly on Free Republic fits these descriptions. So in the spirit of bipartisanship that is swarming over Washington I figured I might help them out. Once we decide who fits the caricature they have of...

On Sunday, Mike Huckabee crossed the New York City Marathon's finish line after a grueling race that he says was both his proudest, and for sure, his most painful. Until last week, he was unsure if he would be able to run in what would be his fourth marathon, due to a nagging knee injury that had forced him to go under the doctor's knife twice to drain a buildup of fluid. The thought of not running on Sunday was devastating to a man who had trained so hard for so long. He finally told his doctor that he...

On this page, there are several definitions of a Freeper. We are getting a very bad rap. We need to Freep the thumbs up and down and correct this. You will also find other definitions like, Moonbat, DUmmies, and Free Republic. We need your help, please! See some of the definitions below: 1 - Right-wing political activist. So-called, because it is the nickname of the denizens of the ultra-right wing Web site FreeRepublic.com. Similar to "ditto-head." Also spelled FReeper Bill thinks that anyone who opposes President Bush should be thrown in jail. He's a total Freeper. 3 - A pseudo-conservative...

Note: A FReeper who wishes to remain anonymous has asked me to post her story of her abortion and the grief and redemption that followed. She does not seek your sympathy, she merely has a desire to possibly help young women avoid the same mistake. In reading her story, one particular portion of Scripture came to mind: If we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from every wrongdoing. If we say, "We have not sinned," we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1: 9-10)Here...

Ontario canoeist survives bear attack 22 Jul 2006 CBC News A man escaped from a marauding bear deep in northern Ontario Friday after his dog rushed to his defence. Tom Tilley, 55, of Waterloo, Ont. killed the nearly 90-kilogram bear by jumping on its back and stabbing it with a 15-cm hunting knife. But Tilley and his dog were both bitten in the incident. "Love is a very powerful emotion and my thought right away was: `You're not going to kill my dog,' " Tilley told the Waterloo Region Record. "I really consider my dog a hero. Without that first...

There was a striking moment during the interregnum last November/December (2000) that has stayed with me ever since. Inside Politics was running 24 hours a day on CNN, you will recall. I was watching one evening, several days into the theft, and there was Judy Woodruff interviewing conservative columnist Bob Novak. The question of the hour was whether or not Al Gore should just quit and go home. On this night, Novak was pointing to a public poll that had been running on the CNN.com web site. You know these polls: log on to a news site and give your...

Patriotism, faith eagerly combined ---- Kelly Rush, Staff Writer Few would doubt the patriotism of a man driving a red, white and blue Mercury Cougar across the country on a mission to promote reforms he says are necessary to the security of America. San Bernardino resident Lyman Stucky of the civilian border-watch group the Minuteman Project drove his pace car from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., demanding that American borders be secured and immigration laws enforced. Stucky promoted the ride through his Web site, www.spiritofallegiance.com, and the Christian Newswire, a publicity service for conservative Christian news. The site is peppered...

Last Friday mom went in for a routine heart catherization for clogged arteries. The doctor, in his infinite wisdom, decided that she had to have an immediate triple bypass. She will be taken off of life support tomorrow.

To: All I'd like to thank everyone here for all your prayers and support the past 10 days. It has meant so much to me and my family. As you know there was NO cancer and because my descending colon takes a few turns and "s" curves, I still have more colon than most people!!! As it turns out, the radiation therapy that I had in 1974, which shriveled two arteries by 1996 leading to an arterial bypass, is the culprit once again. My transverse colon was shriveled and fused to my spleen. The Doctor was unable to separate the...

Fellow FReepers, As the son of Joe Driscoll, passenger on Flight 93, I was invited to opening of the Tribeca Film Festival to view United 93. Unless you are 110% sure you can't take watching this movie - you have got to see this film. Universal Studios and Paul Greengrass absolutely nailed it. Even though the ending is no surprise this movie is gripping and powerful. There is no political statement - and by no means is this a politically correct tribute. It is rough, true and stark. Almost no one in the film is mentioned by name and nor...

SAN FRANCISCO - Paul A. Flaherty, a computer engineer who helped create the pioneering AltaVista online search engine, has died. He was 42. Flaherty died March 16 of a heart attack at his home in Belmont, about 20 miles south of San Francisco, family members said Friday. Flaherty came up with the idea of indexing Web pages that made the AltaVista search engine one of the most popular Internet search tools in the mid-1990s.

Kristinn Taylor of Free Republic and Stephen Cleghorn of Military Families Speak Out appeared on Hardball this evening to discuss the pro-War and anti-War message. Free Republic supports the War, while Military Families Speak Out is against the war and wants to pull our troops out of Iraq immediately. Both guests have family members serving in either Iraq or Afghanistan.

Kristinn just called to say that he'll be on this afternoon to talk about the war, protesters, public opinion... I wasn't able to get much more information, because his phone is pretty busy right now. I think he said he'll be on during the 5:30 segment. For those of us who never watch Hardball, it starts at 5pm on the east coast.

Because we were sharing the results of our tests on that thread, I was pleasantly surprised to discover three other...

2006 may see the end of the weekly commie "vigils" outside Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The increase in police activity over the past few weeks has prompted speculation among the FReepers that CodePink is looking for a face-saving way to end their blood dance by getting the permits for both sides revoked. Once again, someone called D.C.'s finest complaining about "the noise", but our permit actually allows us to use megaphones (which we have not used...yet) Pictures here:http://gunnnutt.blogspot.com/2006/01/end-of-year-at-walter-reed.html

Getting into a war zone to report live and do live shows takes some effort and flexibility. Here's the latest on Gunny Bob's expedition to Iraq. On 4 January, the Gunny will fly to Kuwait City via Beirut as it stands now, but that route could change. GUNNY BOB'S COLUMN DECEMBER 06, 2005: America’s Traitors: Hang ‘Em High Julius and Ethel Rosenberg Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. Robert Garwood. Clayton Lonetree. Four Americans with one thing in common: they betrayed their country for personal gain. In the case of the Rosenbergs, the communist spies and traitors helped their beloved Soviet Union acquire classified intelligence at America’s expense. America’s loss and the Soviet Union’s gain equated to the Rosenberg’s political gain. Robert Garwood, a Marine in the Vietnam War, was captured and then went over to the enemy’s side in exchange for favorable treatment. Clayton Lonetree, also a Marine,...
