Long Time Conservative Patriot Mike Moreland Passes Long time conservative patriot, Boone County Magistrate and constitutional conservative Mike Moreland of Union Kentucky died today. Mike is survived by his wife a son and grandchildren. Moreland, pictured here with Rand Paul and Lloyd Rogers, was known for his staunch defense of civil liberties long before the TEA party movement became popular. Moreland was a reliable republican supporter and campaign volunteer in addition to the service he rendered to his community in elected office. He is the only elected official on the Boone County website who listed his cell phone number as...

I've heard varying quotes of how many daily users there on on Free Republic and even the most modest of them has my ire growing. Do ya wonder why?

On June 28, A Longtime FReeper, midcop402, posted a thread 'My father is Missing' seeking information regarding his dad, Seth Charles Thompson. Tonite, fellow FReeper, BykrBayb, pinged many of us to let us know that Mr. Thompson's body was found last nite, 07/16. Please, hold this FReeper and his family in your prayers. ~ Memorial Thread ~ FReeper redrock has gone Home ~~ October 6, 2010 ~ FReeper redrock is a Vietnam Veteran, an Army Medic. Rest in Peace, Mike. Abide With Me Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see; O Thou who changest not, abide with me. Unlike the federal government, which has the power to steal money from you to pay for programs and policies that you don't support, Free Republic relies on the voluntary donations from it's members. While there is already a large number of FReepers and lurkers who donate on a regular basis, either monthly, quarterly or a generous yearly donation, it's not enough to cover FR's operating expenses. There are also FReepers who would like to donate, but just don't have the resources because they are temporarily unemployed, living on a fixed income, have on-going medical expenses or other family obligations. I...

Today is my 6th FReeper birthday. I started out when Buckhead caught Dan Rather in the fake but accurate lie and have been hooked ever sense. Over the years I have learned a great deal from my FRiends and much more about life in general. Thank you one and all!

It was announced that Obama issued a press release stating that he is a practicing Christian, consults with 5 pastors, reads the Bible and prays daily, and has daily devotionals sent to him. The report did not say whether he read the devotionals. Well, that is not all! Freepers can come up with an even better list of how Obama is practicing Christian... (contributions to the list) Obama is soooo Christian that... * The Pope bows to HIM when he comes in the room * He sleeps in a manger * Runs a mile carrying a cross every day *...

It seems to me that we are getting a lot of new members and the following may be helpful to them. Live in a solid "red" state and when anybody complains about some asinine law in their blue state, tell them to "just move from there". The simplistic solution is always the best one. Refer to California as Californicate or Kalifornia. The people's republic of (insert state name here) is always good. When an article appears about something negative happening in public schools, proudly proclaim that all your kids are home schooled and geniuses to boot. Extra points if you...

I've had these pictures sat on my PC for years so i've finally got around to hosting them. I'm slowly captioning them too, based on translations from a French Flickr account. I think he copied them from somewhere else so i don't feel too bad about using them. I'm not copying word for word anyway. Anyway, hope some of you enjoy them ! http://www.stolly.org.uk/ETO

For much of the evening Tuesday, any one of four candidates were in line to win the Republican nomination for the 199th Legislative District seat. North Middleton Township resident and local attorney Stephen Bloom appears to have emerged victorious in the seven-way Republican primary to earn the nomination. As of Wednesday morning, all absentee ballots have been included in the results. Bloom won the 199th race by 284 votes, unofficially, with 2,163 votes. Denny Lebo had 1,879. The county board of elections will meet at 9 a.m. May 25 to certify ballot results. They will then be sent to the...

There have been a lot of threads recently on liberal activists who intend to disrupt tea party events by acting as agents provocateur. They intend to cause problems by making the tea party attendants seem more violent and extreme than are by carrying offensive signs, shouting racial and homophobic epitaphs, etc. Many people have suggested that FReeper attendees carry cameras and get pics of these cretins, but I think more is needed. We need a site or a thread, possibly even this one, where pics of the perpetrators can be immediately posted. That way, the good folk who cannot attend...

I just received the very sad news that Michigan freeper Westlander has lost his battle with cancer. Joe died on March 4. I cannot express well enough how much I will miss Joe. His loss will be felt throughout the whole forum, and especially by those of us here in Michigan who have come to know him so well the last six years. The mitten board will not be the same without him. My thoughts and prayers are with Joe's wife, Pat, and his friends and family. May God bring them comfort in their time of need. Godspeed, Joe.

EUGENE, Ore. – Police say a man who appeared in the Discovery Channel show "Deadliest Catch" is wanted for three bank robberies in Oregon and has been arrested in Illinois. Police in East Peoria, Ill., say they arrested 23-year-old Joshua Tel Warner early Thursday on the Oregon bank robbery warrant after a vehicle he was riding in was pulled over for a routine traffic stop. He was being held on $30,000 bail in the Tazewell County Jail. Police in Eugene, Ore., say he is the same Josh Warner who appeared as a greenhorn deckhand on the king crab fishing boat...

This is a public service announcement from your friendly neighborhood Admin Moderators (Sidebar gave us some attitude so we shoved him in the closet for a while. He never recovered from the Yacht incident) For a while, we have noticed some things happening that we need your help with. The Free Republic community is strong; we are almost a family, albeit very dysfunctional at times. Like any community, we have new members joining us daily. Unfortunately, the air of suspicion and the desire to keep things “the way they are” has fostered a feeling of distrust with new members. Almost...

Just found out from her son -- he found her on the floor of her bedroom. Kristy had a host of health conditions she'd been battling for literally decades, including progressively severe hypoxemia (low blood oxygen), but still this was unexpected. She was 60 years old. She loved this place, and was quite active on the prayer threads. Kristy and I met on FR six years ago, and over time we became the very best of friends. I loved her dearly. Don't know what else to say, other than my soul feels like it has a gigantic hole in it....

Pelosi critical of Baucus billBy GLENN THRUSH | 9/17/09 5:04 AM EDT House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s reaction to the release of the Max Baucus health care reform bill was chilly at best — with a not-so-subtle swipe at the Senate Finance Committee’s stripping away the public option preserved in current House proposals. “As this proposal evolves, we hope to see modifications that result in the Senate bill better reflecting the work of the House to make health care more affordable for all Americans and promote competition that is key to keeping costs lower,” Pelosi said in a statement. “I believe...

It was surreal to step onto the stage and to feel the unity, energy, and absolute commitment to this nation on the National Mall yesterday in Washington DC. It was even more surreal to know that all who were there had come from every different corner of life imaginable in the United States. Nonetheless, we were honored to join Parcbench, the National Tea Parties, and every patriot who stood up on 9.12 for the future of America:

How to tell if you've been FReeping too longIf some, many or all of the following apply to you, you probably have been FReeping too long. You remember when you had to know basic HTML in order to form a decent post. You remember when the entire thread had to be 86’d in order to remove a single post. You remember when if someone forgot to close their italics, bold tags, the entire thread after that point was in bold or italics. You remember when if a disruptor made a mess of things during the wee hours of the night,...

As longtime readers know, in the past several years, I've gotten a lot of death threats, ALL of them from Muslim residents of the United States a/k/a the "moderate" ones. Three of the four have been prosecuted, but the Justice Department refuses to pursue the most scary and frequent of the death threat perpetrators (Lola Elzein, who contacted me six times with escalating threats of rape, torture, and death to myself and my family members). But yesterday, I got a not-so-veiled threat from a man named Chad Castagana, who is on the right . . . the far, far, nutty...

The next ten days are going to involve some intense campaigning on the ground in the Fifth District of Illinois, with the goal of electing FR's own chicagolady, Rosanna Pulido, to Congress on April 7. We still need more volunteers! No matter where you live, if you can make phone calls from home for Rosanna, please contact Maureen Gerrish at pulidophonebank@gmail.com, and she'll get you all set up. If you live in or near the district, please join up with one of our teams that will be canvassing precincts every day for the next ten days. We're starting out tomorrow...

Rahm Emanuel is an anti gun politician who recently became Barack Obama’s chief of staff. He was previously the the US Congressman for Illinois’ 5th congressional district - a congressional seat that is now vacant. The seat will soon be filled through an election, with the primary occurring on March 3, 2009, and the general election on April 7, 2009. Getting a pro gun rights individual elected would be a nice change, especially since the president is anti gun, and both chambers of congress are controlled by anti gun politicians: Rosanna Pulido is running for congress to fill the seat...

If the S.C. Republican establishment (including Senate President Glenn McConnell and Lt. Gov. André Bauer) had gotten behind her campaign four years ago, Katherine Jenerette would be a Republican State Senator right now. Not only that … Jay-Z’s hit “99 Problems” wouldn’t be the official theme song of South Carolina’s so-called “deliberative” body. Anyway, McConnell and Bauer (like the rest of the “Republican” Caucus) chose not to back Jenerette’s campaign, deciding instead to support behind the campaign of their big government buddy Sen. Dick Elliott, a Democrat and one of the most corrupt politicians in state history. It’s just another...

Today is my official anniversary as a FReeper. I don't post as much as I did in the early years, but I'm here reading every day. When the board is down, I IM my friends and tell them, "Call the paramedics! FreeRepublic is down!" Most of them "get it" now since they've become FReepaholics themselves. This forum has gotten me through some difficult and challenging times over the years. Monicagate and Bill Clinton in general, the 2000 election from hell, 9-11, the Columbia explosion, the 2004 election, the 2008 election, and many others. I also met a FReeper ("whoever") who...

Could someone please help me find a FReeper? I can't remember her name, but she posted in a thread the day after the election saying she was taking a holiday from Free Republic for awhile to work on her study on Jews in the South. I want to get in touch with her because she could be a big help to me regarding my Master's thesis. Does anyone know who I am talking about?

I've never seen so many vanities on FR. Ever. And most by newbies, who perhaps don't understand what FR is meant to be. FR has ceased to be a place to evaluate the published word, and has degenerated into a sophomoric chatroom. Jim -- can you please provide guidance on what you'd like to see FR become? Can you let us know your thoughts on vanities, and explain how you'll enforce your policy regarding vanities? I personally feel that if the ratio of vanities to discussion of the published word continues to increase, FR will become a common chatroom for...

Anyone watching the HBO movie "Recount" about the 2000 election will notice a scene where a banner plane is flying overhead with "Surrender Gorethy". Not as famous as Sore/Loserman but one of many Freeper inspired slogans that helped shape the mood during Gore's attempt to steal the 2000 election. Back in those days it was our own "Freeper Airforce" who took to the skies to put up these political messages. Freepers "Seeking the Truth" (aka Gene) and "flygirl" seem to have been flying political messages as early as October and flew the "Surrender Gorethy" banner on Thursday 11/16/2000. So my...
