Polls have many purposes. To the chattering political classes in Washington, D.C., they are purposed to get a gauge of public opinion. To the political operative, they are utilized to mold public opinion, by the infamous 'push poll (in which campaign claims are imbedded in the poll questions themselves), or by paintingan election, or even by painting a demographic as unreasonable or absurd (such as the PPP poll that was only run in the southern states that asked if interracial marriage was wrong, and if Obama was a Muslim). To the public, they are read and used, by some, to jump on the bandwagon of a winner -- after all, nobody likes to vote for a loser.

At the CNN Florida Republican Presidential debate in Jacksonville on January 26th, Governor Romney attempted to link Speaker Newt Gingrich to the 2007 Housing Crisis by questioning the Speaker’s role as a consultant at the troubled mortgage giant Freddie Mac. He made the same connection in the NBC debate on January 23rd. Governor Romney claimed in the debates that Speaker Gingrich peddled his influence in Washington D.C. to promote Freddie Mac when he should have been blowing the whistle on the government-sponsored entities' practices.

Just got the scoop from my guy who works at Bryan Mound (Strategic Petroleum Reserve). As you may know, the largest reserve site in the U.S. is located a few miles from where I work in Freeport. It hold 200+ million barrels of oil. They got a visitor from Washington D.C. authorizing the release of 80-90 million barrels across all 4 sites in the U.S. It will be sold to Exxon Mobil for the purpose of flooding the market to bring down gas prices (temporarily). Just in time for the election. The president can do this without Congress. What an...

On Monday, March 5th the White House unexpectedly announced that the 2012 G8 Summit, the annual meeting of the world’s eight largest economies, was going to be held at Camp David instead of the President’s home town of Chicago. So, in as much as this publication is one of the closest newspapers to the site, on the off chance that one of the attendees might happen upon an issue, a rare opportunity presents itself: Dear Mr. President, “TRANSFORM” (from Webster’s Dictionary) “to change a thing into a different thing… implying a major change in form, nature or function.” Sir, you...

The GOP attacks on Palin. After the Inauguration of Obama, the first time that the manhood of the GOP was called into question was the Stimulus package. Rick Santelli was so upset with it that he issued his now famous diatribe calling for something like a national tea party. A long simmering emotion within conservative ranks now had a name. Meanwhile, back in Alaska, Sarah Palin's return to work involved dealing with these stimulus package issues, and she did what she felt that she must. She took those which were appropriate, but turned away those that weren't. This was...

We want to leverage the most powerful minds on the right to make a difference. To do this, we want to bring a new level of activism, the citizen investigator. Cats are genetically wired to behave in ways that humans see as insane. They often torment and play with their prey, for example, in a manner that we would call 'sadistic'. Sadism, to humans, is not a sane characteristic. Sometimes it seems that humans are also genetically wired to behave insanely. Let us look at the votes recently taken in Greece, France, and Germany. In all three cases, the concept of austerity (read: fiscal responsibility) has been completely rejected by their populations. In one case, France, the populace actually elected a labeled Socialist. The financial systems of most of Europe...
