Do you think an extension of the payroll tax cut should include approval for the Keystone XL pipeline? Yes -- It would be a good display of compromise from Washington. No -- It's completely unrelated and needs its own debate and decision. I'm not sure

There is a facebook page that is calling for a 3rd intifada. It started last week, and already has close to 200,000 “likes”. If you look at the wall of this facebook page, you will see allot of people calling for the death of the jews and for the destruction of Israel. We need to report this page to Facebook so they remove it ASAP. In the time-honored tradition of Alcoholics Anonymous, I recently entrusted my fate to a higher power — specifically, to a new software program that shuts off my access to the Internet for a designated time. I finally had to acknowledge that I was helpless in the face of my addiction, which has had me, especially in recent weeks, tapping my e-mail "refresh" button like a lab rat trying to get cocaine. I know I'm not alone in my hardwired weakness for novelty. Yet while constantly seeking out new things was once a helpful instinct that alerted us to new foods,...

The Internet's been buzzing with talk about how members of the U.S. Tea Party movement have been getting out the vote for Bristol Palin on Dancing With the Stars. The blog Jezebel had a post about it today, complete with quotes from conservative message boards about how Bristol's supporters were exploiting ABC's email voting system to cast multiple ballots for Sarah Palin's daughter. Jezebel quoted one site, FreeRepublic.com, that urged its members to "make liberal heads explode" by voting for Bristol, "even though she is not the best dancer." Well, my liberal head is kind of exploding right now because...

AlterNet is claiming that it has uncovered a "widespread campaign of censorship" executed by a group of "influential" conservative and right-wing Digg members. The site - which defines itself as a viable "alternative to the commercial media onslaught" - refers to Digg as both a "behemoth" and a "powerhouse." "The [Digg] model [makes] it very susceptible to external gaming whereby users from certain groups attempt to push their viewpoint or articles to the front page to give them traction," claimed senior news editor "Oleoleolson." "But the inverse of this effect is more devastating, as Bury brigades could effectively remove stories...

Today is my 11th anniversary of signing up on FreeRepublic. I lurked since the beginning of October, 1998, learned about the March for Justice, and travelled to DC from NJ to attend it to join the voices of those calling for the impeachment of a President who had broken the law. How thrilling it was to arrive at the Washington Monument on Oct. 31, 1998 to see a sea of flags and 4,000 patriots! Seven weeks later, President Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives. Since that time, Freepers have been instrumental in influencing the 2000(Sore/Loserman and "Get out...

I think we should periodically recognize the most prolific FReeper, not necessarily the one who posts the most comments, but the most news stories/articles. To start off, I nominate 'FreeThinker NY'. I am not sure 'FReeThinker NY' is even a person. For all I knew it could be a bot that uploads articles every few hours (or minutes :)

Berkeley -- Dozens of flag-waving military supporters squared off boisterously with peace activists today in the first major showdown over of a U.S. Marine Corps recruiting station that until recently had been operating below the radar in downtown Berkeley. Demonstrators led by conservative radio talk-show host Melanie Morgan shouted down members of Code Pink, a group spawned by Bay Area peace activists, as both lined Shattuck Avenue and Addison Street outside the recruiting station, which was closed today. Shortly before noon, there was a physical confrontation between the two camps, which prompted Berkeley police Sgt. Randy Files to bellow at...

Two news items passed recently without notice in The Tribune's pages. Separately, each story is troubling enough, but put side by side, the two stories illuminate a terrifying trend. The first comes from Myanmar, formerly Burma, and tells how its military junta has created civilian gangs to solidify power by antagonizing dissent. The second comes from our own country and tells how the Bush administration has also created civilian gangs, called "rally squads," to antagonize protesters and demonstrators. These civilian volunteers stand ready to block protesters' signs and to drown out demonstrators' chants, ensuring that nary a critical word is...

It was a very good and lazy, sunny spring day in Olney. Especially since only one moonbat showed up today. Also a good time to talk to a high school journalist for an article in her school newspaper. Last week she stopped by as we were breaking down and we did a brief taped interview. It appears she was asking questions from a list that the moonbats wrote for her. She was unsure of how to ask the question and also had to look over the paper to see what to ask. FYI for FReepers from the area, she is...

SEATAC, Wash. — The Christmas trees are going back up at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Port of Seattle officials had ordered the trees taken down over the weekend after a local rabbi threatened a lawsuit if a menorah wasn't also displayed at the airport. Airport officials say they took that action out of concern that if they allowed the addition of a menorah, they would also have to display symbols of other religions and cultures, which was not something airport workers had time for during the busiest travel season of the year. Rabbi Elazar Bogomilsky says he never asked that the...

The departure of Christmas tree displays at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport — the Port of Seattle's response to a local rabbi's insistence that an electric menorah also be put up — is accelerating into an international spectacle in the so-called "war on Christmas." And that is not what Rabbi Elazar Bogomilsky wanted. "I am devastated, shocked and appalled at the decision that the Port of Seattle came to," he said Sunday. As news coverage about the airport's trees spread from CNN to ABC to the Paris-based International Herald Tribune, Bogomilsky on Sunday began to receive hateful messages from people holding him...

SEA-TAC Airport - All of the Christmas trees inside the terminal at Sea-Tac have been removed in response to a complaint by a rabbi. A local rabbi wanted to install an 8-foot menorah and have a public lighting ceremony. He threatened to sue if the menorah wasn’t put up, and gave a two-day deadline to remove the trees. Sea-Tac public affairs manager Terri-Ann Betancourt said the trees that adorn the Sea-Tac upper and lower levels may not properly represent all cultures. She said that since this is their busiest time of year and they don't have time to add...

THE LEFT RETURNS: PART II Two hundred and three years ago, at the signing of the Declaration of Indepedence, Benjamin Franklin offered a starkly realistic view of what awaited America's first freedom fighters. "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately." In the Philadelphia of 2006, it will does all conservatives well to remember that assessment. I apologize for the length of what follows. I think all of it is useful as a reminder for what we are up against. Well, friends and comrades, the dust has barely cleared from Election 2006 and the Left has...

...we came, we saw, we shredded some more... Operation Simply Shred II went into effect at 9:30 am this morning of May 27, 2006 with the opening of the 2006 Memorial Day Airshow at the Columbia Regional Airport. If anyone remembers last Memorial Day weekend in 2005, Operation Simply Shred was a success and had the local moonbats, especially the chief honco, Mark Haim, going rabid over what we were doing to his precious yellow pamplets.. Four FReepers were there to put the Operation into effect: Bluesagewoman, Gulfwar1vet, Prov3456, and Bogeyman.

Last week's AFRO.com poll question concerning Sen. Hilary Clinton's remark that the House of Representatives closely resembles a plantation elicited many more responses than the weekly norm. The poll question received more than a 150 percent increase in voter participation, with almost 90 percent voting the same way. This unusually high number of responses, and the actual voting pattern raised some questions with the publisher. A full investigation, however; was issued after reading the response of one anonymous voter, "your poll is being hacked by freerepublic.com so the results shouldn't be taken too seriously." AFRO staff quickly went to www.freerepublic.com,...

A planned student walkout Wednesday to protest the Iraq war is causing friction and uncertainty in some schools. An advocacy group called Youth Against War and Racism is organizing a rally and march in downtown Seattle as part of a national protest on the first anniversary of President Bush's re-election. Organizers, who want high-school students to walk off campus at noon, said they're expecting as many as 2,000 students from 30 schools in Seattle and beyond. Organizers plan to begin the rally at 1 p.m. at Westlake Center, then at 2 p.m. march to the Capitol Hill Arts Center for...

Meet the Right-Wing Michael Moore By Damian Thompson The Daily Telegraph 13 August 2005 Evan Coyne Maloney - Colgate smile, V-necked T-shirt, hint of gel in his hair - could have jumped out of a Gap poster. He's sitting in the Starbucks at a bookshop in Union Square, Manhattan, typing nonchalantly into his laptop. At 32, he is just old enough to have burnt his fingers on a dotcom, but he still exudes optimism. "Very cool to meet you," he says.

For better or worse, every vote counts at PetitionOnline.com. And considering all the injustice going on in the world, the subjects that get people outraged can be quite depressing. The Web site includes a list of 2,645 people demanding that "The Smurfs" be released on DVD, 1,942 fans lobbying for a Canadian Football League video game and 14,469 activists -- enough to fill a hockey arena -- fighting to bring "Star Trek: Enterprise" back from cancellation. Meanwhile, on the same site, an attempt to save Social Security has gathered 25 signatures, and only 35 people care enough to endorse same-sex...

'Freeper' sued President Bush's 60-million-vote re-election triumph might have helped Inside the Beltway readers forget those 36 days in late 2000, when it seemed that Al Gore's squads of lawyers might deprive Mr. Bush of his narrow victory in Florida. Hello all. Last night, during/after the debate, there were threads about "Freep these polls!" with lists of online instant polls about the debate. I went to a few and saw that Edwards was at various high (false) levels -- 70%, 75%, etc. Cheney took Edwards to the woodshed, so I know these results are false. A Freeper mentioned in a post that these online polls are useless, because libs use automated means to falsely load the polls. So here's my query: suppose (hypothetically) that Free Republic announced beforehand that it was encouraging its members NOT to Freep any polls for...

Tonight, don't let George Bush's henchmen steal another victory. We need your online help immediately after the debate, so save this email, print it out, and have it ready with you as you watch the first Presidential debate tonight. We all know what happened in 2000. Al Gore won the first debate on the issues, but Republicans stole the post-debate spin. We are not going to let that happen again, and you will play a big role. Immediately after the debate, we need you to do three things: vote in online polls, write a letter to the editor, and call...
