The Final FReeptoon By Pcottraux It is with great sadness that I, pcottraux, on this Singles thread of November 3-5, am posting my last FReeptoon. This is the end. For those of you who may be unfamiliar, I’ve drawn a series of politically-themed cartoon strips as sort of a hobby and posted them on FR for a little over a year now. And I have to say that it has been a complete blast. When I first started, I never anticipated all the warmth, well-reception, and overall fun I’ve had not to mention all the new friends I’ve made. The...

And now the Dinklemeyer: This continues the “Field Trip” story. Now Freddy has gotten lost in the woods…something that has happened to me many times. For those of you missing the references, in an earlier strip, each member of the class was assigned an “Angry Dwarf” to follow them around to remind them to do their classwork. But Freddy “lost” his.

And now the Dinklemeyer: This Dinkelmeyer continues the “Field Trip” story. The true field trip on which this was based did in fact have a journey through secluded woods for unclear reasons. However, I didn’t actually get lost on that one. But I was notorious throughout my young age for getting lost on field trips. I decided to base this one those less-than-memorable experiences. I think we’ve all been there at one point or another.

And now the Dinklemeyer:Time has not been too kind to this Dinklemeyer strip for some reason. As the years have gone by, it has become unrecognizably smudged. For this reason, coupled with my already bad handwriting, subtitles had to be provided this week.I must ask for apologies to any vertically challenged people who may be out there reading this. The whole “work puzzle” idea is sprung from the fact that often, on field trips, the tour guides will give you some stupid worksheet to do, or the teacher will make you take notes. Who wants to do book work on a...

And now tonight’s Dinklemeyer:This is continuing the “Field trip” story. It’s probably the grossest Dinklemeyer I drew; however, sometimes tour guides can be a little on the creepy side. Not often, of course, but the ones you get when you’re on a field trip as a kid can seem a little out-there.

And now the Dinklemeyer:Tonight’s strip continues the story of the horrible class field trip. This is heavily based on a real field trip I went on shortly before drawing this. The field trip was in fact to a landfill, which was probably the lamest place we could have possibly gone. We were learning about waste management or something. This is a caricature of our tour guide, who did in fact have horrible breath. He also did a strange demonstration just like this one that involved a paint can. I still haven’t figured it out.The other students who went on the field...

And now, for tonight’s Dinklemeyer, I bring you an all new story. At this point, the Dinklemeyers became pretty much stories done in a serial form, instead of just singular cartoon strips. This one begins the “Class fieldtrip” story.I drew this story not long after a field trip (the story is loosely based on that very trip). When you’re in Elementary and Middle school, field trips are the most fun, exciting things imaginable. Unfortunately, once you enter High School, they suddenly become few and far-between, and the ones that you go on are excruciatingly lame. No more going to Washington, D.C....

And…wouldn’t you know it? We have a Dinklemeyer:This is continuing the “Freddy Gets Detention” story. I hope the text is readable to everyone: I guess my handwriting got a little sloppy that day.On the rare occasions where I would get detention, this is sort of how I remember it. It’s like being chained up in a dungeon, only it’s more of a tiny filthy classroom downstairs below the gym.And since you’re now a criminal, you are berated to shame by whatever sadistic coach is watching over you.

Aaand the Dinklemeyer:This strip continues the “Freddy gets detention story.” Again, it is very much based on something that happened to me in the 6th grade. In fact, the teacher in this strip is very much based on the my 6th grade teacher. (I got in trouble for someone stealing my book and leaving it in the middle of the floor).

And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer:This begins a new story: “Freddy gets detention.” Here we see the bully deciding to steal Freddy’s book and run to hide it.Since starting to draw the Dinklemeyers, my drawing had improved greatly, so with this story I was able to put in a more lush and vivid background. It made the overall look a lot fuller and more pleasing to the eye.Sadly, this story is based on something that happened to me, and it was almost exactly like this…down to the nearest detail.

If it isn’t clear what’s happening, he’s simply sitting outside at night watching the moon. After something as goofy as the “Pig Acceptance” story, I kind of wanted to go back and show that the strip was going to retain its original concept, despite taking a sillier and more cartoonish air.

And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer:This is FINALLY the conclusion to the “Pig Acceptance Story.” Because the talking pig was able to scare away the chainsaw weasel (they are natural enemies), Freddy’s Dad decided to let him stay. And all is at peace (for the time being). The last panel is a play on a phase I was going through at the time where I just loved coming up with the most sarcastic and biting ways possible to say “I don’t care” to someone.

Hello, friends! It’s great to be back!!Now I’m going to do something a little different with the Dinklemeyer tonight. Since I took a break last time mid-story, I’m going to post the last Dinklemeyer strip along with this one, just to make sure everyone knows what’s going on.So here, at last, we’re having the conclusion to the “Pig Acceptance” story. This is probably the silliest story in the Dinklemeyer strips and probably one of the most fun (losing out only to a later story where the talking pig takes over a major corporation).

And now the Dinklemeyer: As far as the Dinklemeyer cartoon universe goes, this is the official turning point. The strip right here makes the transition from being a poignant look at a lonely boy (there is still more of that in the future though) to a goofy, funny cartoon. This also continues the “Pig Acceptance Story” in which the talking pig is pressing for acceptance in the Dinklemeyer household. How this ties in with that, we’ll see next time. And it is too funny.

There! Finally getting around to illegal immigration! And next we have a Dinklemeyer:This is continuing the “Pig Acceptace” story, in which, as that name indicates, the talking pig is fighting for acceptance in the Dinklemeyer household.I had decided to change Freddy’s look just a little bit and give him long pants instead of shorts. But it really probably wasn’t worth drawing attention to like that.Nevertheless, this strip does sum up the pig’s personality pretty well. This is about to turn into one of the goofiest story’s I’ve ever written. Should be great!

I really probably should have tackled the whole illegal immigration thing going on, but I came up with this idea and started working on it Friday and there was no way I could go back once I started.BTW, this is a real story. And now one of my favorite Dinklemeyers: This is based loosely on my own Dad’s nightly eating habits, though he’s not nearly as messy. This strip really in earnest begins the “Pig Acceptance” story, where the pig has to press for acceptance in the Dinklemeyer household. It really establishes the characters and their personalities well. Freddy will often...

And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer: Freddy is depressed at the beginning, but it makes a sharp turn. It’s what some might call the ol’ “left turn in the last panel.”What presses now is that Freddy’s Dad has been introduced as a character, but now he’s just discovered that Freddy has a pig. Which he’s not too happy about. So after getting out of the Deathball story, this turns quickly into the next one: the talking pig has to press for Freddy’s Dad to welcome him into the household.Only this one’s not quite as sweet as the sort of thing you’d...

And the Dinklemeyer:It is my privilege to now introduce to you, my readers, with the third major character to appear in the Dinklemeyer cartoons: MEET…Freddy’s Dad.This strip concludes the “deathball story” that’s been going on for a few weeks, and introduces the Dad.Freddy’s Dad is a fun character and almost as funny as the talking pig. He’s rarely named in the strip, but his full name, as a trivia matter, is Dockie-Pierre Dinklemeyer, a sort of weird mix of my Grandfather’s nickname and my Dad’s middle name. But mostly I’ll just refer to him as “Freddy’s Dad.”I didn’t want...

And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer:This is continuing the “Deathball” story, where our hero is being forced in gym class to play a horrifying game (based on my own Middle School experiences…hardly an exaggeration). But actually, this individual strip represents something important: the lines are getting darker. After a while of practicing, my artistic abilities were gradually getting better. Here, we see the contrast is greater and the strip is a little easier to look at.Be sure to show up Friday, because then we’re going to meet the third major character to be introduced and become a character. Tonight we are celebrating the most monumental occasion in the history of the world: This is the 50th FReeptoon drawn and posted by the man of the hour, pcottraux. I’ve had this one in my head since the beginning and am finally getting to use it. And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer. This is one of the least artistic Dinklemeyers, but it does its job. I’ve always hated drawing tables. This strip continues to establish the talking pig as a character, as well as the relationship between him and Freddy. In a classic cartoony way, the only Freddy can hear the pig talk, and the pig always refers to Freddy as “Clyde,” just because he likes that name better. I think “Clyde” is a funny name. I liked exploring...

And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer: <It felt kind of weird after 9/11 to try to continue with ordinary life; a strange shadow hangs over everything. Nevertheless, I pressed onward. Here, I continued to introduce the talking pig. I’m also establishing that he’s not as smart as he acts. This is the first of many “bacon jokes” involving him. Hey, pigs invite bacon jokes upon themselves. I’m not sure why his arm is extended in the first panel: that’s just how he came out.

Hopefully, everyone knows who that is in the right hand side of the last panel, so I don’t have to tell anyone (it should be obvious…can anyone guess?). And now for two Dinklemeyers tonight, the second one being the most emotional of them all: Here, I have just introduced the talking pig, and wanted establish some of the rules around him (subtitle included there). He’s a guy who acts smart and intellectual, but is not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. I couldn’t myself explain why only Freddy could hear the pig talk, so I just decided...

< br> And now, I bring you tonight’s Dinklemeyer. It is with great pleasure that I introduce the first major character besides Freddy to last throughout the strip’s history: I never gave the talking pig a name; he is just called The Pig. In expanding Dinklemeyer’s world, I wanted to draw a lot more of Freddy’s home life and get him away from High School. If I’m allowed to say it, the pig is one of my all-time favorite cartoon characters that I personally have created. I had long wanted to do an animal character. At first, I thought,...

Everyone, I just thought I’d announce that tonight marks the 40th FReeptoon I’ve drawn and posted. I don’t know if that means anything, but I’m sure it’s worth mentioning. And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer: This is one of my favorites. It’s very simple and efficient, yet it’s also sharp and funny. I also brings a name to the gym coach character (Stroganoff). He, the principal, and the bully both have been established as minor characters who make occasional appearances. He is VERY MUCH based on my own experiences with ridiculous sadistic and uncaring drill-sergeant-like coaches. This strip is also important,...

And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer:In this mean little thing, I introduced that Freddy did at least have a little bit of a dark side. Perhaps a yearning to conquer the world, or at least his high school, in a Napoleonic way? I also here first brought the actual name of his school, Boron High School. This is the longest continual strip in the series, running two pages (though the size of the drawings helps. I didn’t want anyone to interpret it in a dark or sinister way (a la Columbine; you have to be careful in today’s paranoid politically correct...

And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer bonus: This is my least favorite of the Dinklemeyers. Nevertheless, fairness dictates that I run it anyway. This was the first real “story” I did, meaning that what happened in the first strip continued over into the next one. The character of Stephanie was a hot girl whom secretly had a crush on Freddy, but he was completely clueless (although readers would tell me that she really looked more like an alien than “hot”). It wasn’t a bad idea, but it just never went anywhere. She made one other appearance in a future strip,...

Click here if this doesn’t make any sense. And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer bonus. This strip and the next one (that will be run Friday) are I suppose what I can call the first official “story” (the story runs for more than one strip). And I can also say that despite that milestone, this strip and the next one are my two least favorite Dinklemeyers. The idea sounded good at the time, and was based on real-life speculation. I introduced a character named Stephanie, who is good-looking and popular and secretly likes Freddy. But Freddy is not only too...

And, as usual, here is tonight’s Dinklemeyer bonus. This one stems from my own dedication to daydreaming in class. Perhaps I wouldn’t be here if I’d payed attention? It also gives birth to a taboo that I no longer mistakenly make: the person who talks first must have their talk bubble to the left, and the next speaker to the right. I made this mistake often in my younger, stupider days, but I have learned.

And now, as usual, here is the Dinklemeyer bonus: I had to include a subtitle there to make sure it’s legible. This is how I remember Gym Class in Middle School. Note the skeletal remains and the dungeon-like prison bar window. This one shows Freddy’s optimism despite all the bad things that happen. This one also introduces the bully, who will make several appearances later on. He never looks quite the same though…except for the nose ring. He is at times the real villain of the strip.

And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer toon. This cartoon is a show of the strip’s early days. I hadn’t fully created the world I wanted to yet, so I had to experiment with new ideas. In this one, I introduced Karen, a hot popular girl whom Freddy has a crush on. But he is too afraid to talk to her, and she does not notice him at all. This showed something I haven’t tried much in my FReeptoons: drawing attractive women is an interesting challenge for an artist (especially a cartoonist). It’s something that I always like to try. Drawing...

Belafonte certainly had this coming, didn’t he? And now, here is the bonus Dinkelmeyer toon: This one is established the sort of exaggerated things based on real-life that I enjoy to this day. The FReeptoon where Donkey visits Moveon.org has its roots grounded in early cartoon like this one. This is also, of course, how I remember without much fondness my own gym classes in Middle School. The gym at times felt like a horrible dungeon filled with hideous creatures who wanted to hurt you.

And now, the first *official* Freddy Dinkelmeyer cartoon: After the first few I had done, a few people had read what I was drawing. But personally, I was not satisfied with the way it was going. One day early in the school year I decided to change it completely. I tossed the graphic notebook aside, got a regular notebook, and begin drawing the cartoon as a STRIP SERIES. And now I present you with the second Dinkelmeyer bonus. If you missed the first, click here. Today, there are three cartoons in all. A special FReeptoon With Christmas coming and going, I honestly figured this week that I kind of deserved a little break (not much of a break, since some of these were harder to make than my usual toons). Instead of making my usual FReeptoons, I decided to do something special for today: special, genuine hand-crafted ZOT GRAPHICS!!! You know we all love them. You know we all can’t get enough of them. I made four personally hand-crafted graphics for the special occasion of sending trolls to their well-deserved graves. Feel free to use these or send them to any friends...
