  • The 50 Most Popular Conservative Websites (Alexa.com says Free Republic at #7 beats MOST top names)

    Right Wing News ^ | March 16, 2009 | John Hawkins
I thought it might be interesting to see which right-of-center websites actually receive the most traffic. So, I went to Alexa.com and ranked the 50 sites on the right. Do keep in mind that… 1) Alexa doesn’t distinguish between top level domains and their sub-directories. So, for example, a blog on Townhall and Townhall itself would have the same rating. Additionally, websites hosted at places like Blogspot, which list each blog on a sub-directory, can’t be measured. My guess is that it only knocked 2-4 websites max off the list including Ace of Spades HQ, Gateway Pundit, & Big Hollywood....

So for those of you who dont know me I posted at Free Republic as Dengar01 from September 15th 2001 till I opused and 2 months later after questioning the finances of Free Republic my account was zotted. When I first came up with the idea of this thread I emailed TBL, NOTA and a close friend here for their opinions. I then expanded to email some ex-FReepers who were run off the site by some of the most vile creatures on the planet. Some who made up handles at TBL to continue their cult like obsession. I was stalked...

Thousands of PCs worldwide may be unable to access the Internet beginning July 9 unless those machines are rid of the pernicious DNSChanger malware that first surfaced in 2007. The Federal Bureau of Investigation helped shut down the criminal ring responsible for DNSChanger in late 2011. The federal agency then briefly handled the Internet Domain Name System routing for all infected Mac and Windows systems.

This is another index page from Free Republic's archive in 1999. While the discussion threads are all permanently lost, I was able to re-activate many of the links to the articles. So step on back into Free Republics past to see what stories Freepers found interesting enough to share with others on a Thursday night in early July of 1999.What strikes you as the most interesting of these posts, for me it was the post about States Fighting the federal governments decision to implement a National I.D. The idea that the Clinton Adm was wanting Americans to have national...

However, the statements ARE PERCEIVED TO BEAPPARENTLY REAL ENOUGH for evidently thousands of FREEPERS that only idiots would fail to give such assertions fitting prayerful pondering. 1. We cant rely on the media, even the alternative media. Free Republic is announcing a new initiative that gives you a platform. We want to leverage the most powerful minds on the right to make a difference. To do this, we want to bring a new level of activism, the citizen investigator. In the spirit of 1750s The Pennsylvania Gazette published by Ben Franklin and of Andrew Breitbart. For the longest time, our primary focus has been on looking at what the media presents and investigating it or discussing it. We have been missing something, YOU! Jim has created a...

Free Republic's Jim Robinson Makes the Turn punish RINOs in the House I respect those who are still die-hard for beating Romney, but that is yesterdays fight. The danger is not in seeming inconsistenttrust me; we left marks all over that Romney fellow, and he will not forget us. Maybe next time we will unseat him like we are about to do to Lugar, and a number of other RINOs. And this is the fight for today: punish RINOs in the House and especially Lugar in the Senate. Tomorrows fight is back to the White House to get Obama out...

The White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday night brought out not only media celebrities but also their critics. The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic gathered outside of the Washington Hilton and heckled (H/T Marooned in Marin blog) attendees who walked past them or drove by. The group is known to do this every year for the past 13 WHCD's.

A dozen conservative activists interacted with dinner attendees including Woody Harrelson and Chris Matthews. As the nations elite journalists arrived at the Washington Hilton to hobnob with President Obama at the White House Correspondents Dinner, many were met by a small group of protesters shouting "don't believe the liberal press" and holding signs adorned with photos of deceased conservative activist Andrew Breitbart. A few notable attendees politely mixed it up a bit with the protesters, who also shouted accusations of hypocrisy at the well-dressed journalists and Hollywood celebrities. Protester Kevin Martin asked MSNBC host Chris Matthews why he wasn't driven...

Charges of media bias have been flying like a bloody banner on the campaign trail. Newt Gingrich excoriated the “elite media” in a richly applauded moment during one of the Republican debates. Rick Santorum chewed out a New York Times reporter. Mitt Romney said this month that he faces “an uphill battle” against the press in the general election. Meanwhile, just about every new poll of public sentiment shows that confidence in the news media has hit a new low. Seventy-seven percent of those surveyed by the Pew Research Center in the fall said the media “tend to favor one...

Maybe others can answer more concisely, but I believe we need a place where like-minded traditional conservatives can meet to discuss and advocate for our pro-life, pro-liberty, pro-constitution, pro-traditional American conservative values, principles and causes--without being hounded and attacked by leftists, "moderates" and other naysayers, doubters, doom & gloomers, malcontents or trolls who would either outright destroy our liberty and our way of life, surrender it, or otherwise nibble away at it in bits and bites. Free Republic has been just that for fifteen years!! We wholeheartedly and steadfastly believe in and defend our founding principles and our traditional American...
  • Alternatives to donor based, ie, freepathon business model?

I've checked with an ad agency. We can probably raise the funds we need to operate FR at our current level and at the current market price for online advertising if we run a banner ad at the top of every page and at least one rectangular ad in the above the fold body of the page and a couple rectangular ads in the sidebar. If that doesn't generate enough revenue, we can also run pop ups or pop unders and we can even run audio and video ads if need be. But of course, if we go full bore...

I've never seen anything close to the hatred of Mitt Romney than I see at FR. The hatred exceeds anything I've seen or heard from Debbie Wasserman Schultz, David Axelrod, David Plouffe or anybody else in the Obama Administration. Most of the people who can't stand Romney on our side say he'd still be much better than another 4 years of Barack Obama who will never have to face the voters again. You won't find that at FR. Free Republic Jim Robinson: "A reminder for those who are not receiving the message: Romney is a pathological compulsive liar. Lie after...

We're just a few days away from the 2nd Quarter 2012 FReepathon! I may be a bit different because I don't hate 'em. Although it's disheartening that not everyone contributes in a timely, generous manner to keep the 404 away from America's exclusive website for Conservative Activism, FReepathons are a time for FRiends from all over the world to unite in a common cause for good. There's a lot of camaraderie, good clean humor and some fun graphics in the FReepathon threads. It's a chance for many of us to get to know our fellow FReepers better. Plus, it's always...

The Democrats thought they had a great distraction from the economic issues that bedevil most Americans in the form of 30-year-old activist Sandra Fluke. Rush Limbaugh foolishly (as he later acknowledged) called her a slut and a prostitute in the course of ridiculing, entirely properly, her very silly claim that the federal government should force all employers to pay for their female employees contraceptionI never did figure out whether the plan extended to buying male employees condoms and vasectomiesregardless of whether either the employers or employees prefer such benefits to cash compensation. Ms. Flukes theory, really, was so stupid as...

Much depends on who capitalizes on the thirst for change. As daily protests wane, the hard work of political organizing must begin. In this regard, the liberal, or right, forces (as they are known) need to address the Russian peoples concrete economic and social concerns. Too often movements have rallied around a strong personality with minimal connection to the populations aspirations. This time the liberals have a ready-made constituency in the rising middle class and its youthful vanguard. They cannot waste this opportunity. Otherwise, the standard-bearers of change could be radical nationalists, even warmed-over communists who might well tap into...
