" Ary got a two-day suspension because of his “inappropriate” comments. (According to the family’s attorney, Matt Krause with Liberty Counsel, religious discussions had come up in the classroom before.) "According to reports, just one week earlier the German teacher posted a...

The Justice Department has agreed to end its investigation into an international financial network with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and a Saudi prince in a settlement in excess of $30 million, sources tell the Investigative Project on Terrorism. But DOJ officials refuse to release a copy of the settlement or make any comment on it. "Unfortunately, we're unable to provide anything in connection with this matter," DOJ spokesman Charles Miller wrote in response to a query Aug. 16. He did not contest the existence of the settlement with the Islamic Investment Company of the Gulf (IICG). Repeated attempts to...

Snips: Dallas is now officially one of the nation's top 10 terrorist targets – a designation that sounds alarming but which state and local officials have sought for years, because it means millions in federal funds to beef up security. In Washington, homeland security officials had little to say publicly about the rationale for moving Dallas – along with Boston and Philadelphia – into the top tier of cities facing potential threat. The additions create a top 10 list for the first time. The Tier 1 list already included New York and Washington, which were attacked on Sept. 11, 2001,...

Holy Stewardship A statement from the Office of the Presiding Bishop concerning actions in Fort Worth on April 14, 2009 The Episcopal Church, with the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth and the Corporation of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth, filed in court today for a declaratory judgment as the rightful owners of all diocesan property, real and personal, including funds and endowments. We feel sorrow that the former diocesan leaders took such actions that led us to this time. However, this is a necessary step in order for the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth, comprised of Episcopalians of the...

The U.S. government has declined to make a long-awaited sale of block 52 F-16s to Taiwan for fear of upsetting China. The White House blocked the $4.9 billion deal for 66 advanced F-16s last year and there was little hope of it being revived this year. It's seems the United States doesn't want to give them to Taiwan, mainly because mainland China would oppose the sale. In 2006 the U.S. had already blocked the sale to Taiwan of 66 F-16C/D block52s after the island's parliament repeatedly failed to approve funds for an earlier arms package. Then in July 2008, the...

The Star-Telegram used to be a special business. For decades, the Fort Worth newspaper had some of the strongest numbers anywhere, stoked by a fast-growth market and big-city competition. With almost 400 journalists at its peak, it staffed one of the largest newsrooms for a paper its size and had a fat news hole for stories. Profit margins sometimes hit 30 percent, justifying the large head count and making the Star-Telegram a cash-generating machine. That’s all yesterday’s news. Newspapers across the nation are facing their own economic crisis, and they’ve cut more than 24,000 jobs in the past year. The...

Crowther said the "significant size holes" possible posed a danger and there was no word yet on when I-30 would reopen.

Review: Picturing The Bible http://publicbroadcasting.net/kera/news.newsmain?action=article&ARTICLE_ID=1193639§ionID=1 Jerome Weeks. KERA Critic at Large FORT WORTH, TX (2007-12-05) At the first Christmas, the Gospels tell us, the three wise men came from the East to adore the infant Jesus. Except the Gospels never mention their number. It says only that wise men brought three gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh. So where did the three men come from? They came from early Bible illustrations and church paintings. In other words, some of what people believe about Christianity isn't derived directly from the Bible; it has been filtered through centuries of artistic interpretations. The number...

November 12, 2007 The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori 815 Second Avenue New York, NY 10017 Dear Katharine, I have received your letter of November 8th and am rather surprised by your suggestion that I have somehow abandoned the communion of the church and may be subject to ecclesiastical discipline. Such a charge is baseless. I have abandoned nothing, and I have violated no canons. Every year at our Chrism Mass, I very happily reaffirm my ordination vows, along with all our clergy, that I will be “loyal to the doctrine, discipline, and worship of Christ as this Church has...

The Texas Straw Poll is one for the history books. The failure of the legislature to move up the Texas primary date, the scheduling of the event on Labor Day weekend and the first day of dove-hunting season, the limiting of participants to past convention delegates rather than Republican primary voters, and the lack of participation by the leading candidates all contributed to an extremely low turnout. The event ended up being a showcase for Texas Congressman Ron Paul and California Congressman Duncan Hunter. Expectations were high for Ron Paul, and no doubt his supporters are disappointed by his third...

You heard about those New Orleans sex offenders who fled with the rest of the evacuees from New Orleans. It seems that they have fled to shelters and new communities around the Southeast and Southwest, and aren't bothering to register in their new locales as sex offenders. OK .. here's incident number one. At least its the first incident I've heard about. It happened in Ft. Worth, Texas. There was an attempted abduction in Ft. Worth of a 14-year-old girl. A man walked up behind her, grabbed her and said "you're coming with me." She started screaming and kicking ......

Early voting begins Monday, and local officials are predicting record turnout, triggered by the presidential race, a proposal for Arlington taxpayers to pick up part of the tab for a new Dallas Cowboys stadium and lingering misgivings about the 2000 election. A record 915,000 voters are registered in Tarrant County, and at least 65,000 of them -- another record -- have registered since the March primaries. County Elections Administrator Robert Parten said he expects as much as a 65 percent turnout, with nearly half the voters casting ballots early. "Historically, presidential elections have always increased the number of people who...

I have been searching and find nothing. Apparently, there was a body hanging from the overpass on the Spur 408 to I-20 Westbound, and had traffic all snarled up. This did come from the Bone, but it was too ad-lib to be a setup, and the TxDOT cams are shut down there, so I can't see anything. If anyone has heard anything, or was there, I'd appreciate any info. I won't go into why, but I'm curious if this was really a suicide.
