Katelyn Self, a deputy with the Gaston County Sheriff's Office, was killed at the Surf and Turf Lodge in Bessemer City, officials announced at a news conference Sunday afternoon. The second woman who died was identified by Fox 46 as Amanda Self. Investigators said that 62-year-old Roger Self, Katelyn Self's father, and reportedly Amanda Self's father-in-law, drove right into the restaurant -- apparently on purpose. The Gaston Gazette reported that restaurant staff claimed Roger Self went with his family to the restaurant and had them seated. The father then allegedly went outside and purposely drove his Jeep into the building.

RICHMOND — About 20 blocks of downtown Richmond were condemned after the remnants of Tropical Storm Gason battered central Virginia with torrential rain Monday, causing heavy flooding that sent cars floating down streets and trapped people in buildings, officials said. Five fatalities were confirmed in the region, Gov. Mark R. Warner said today. "It's a remarkable blessing that more people weren't hurt," Warner told a news conference. "The devastation to a lot of the businesses in Shockoe Bottom is overwhelming." A brick building of at least two stories had collapsed in the city's historic and low-lying Shockoe Bottom area, and...

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Even as tree limbs were cleared away and power gradually returned across eastern South Carolina after Tropical Storm Gaston, officials waited and watched Monday for Hurricane Frances. While Gaston caused some problems, "it's not the kind of catastrophic damage we see in a major hurricane," Gov. Mark Sanford said. He urged coastal residents to monitor Frances, which has 125 mph winds but is still days away from the Southeast coast. An evacuation would be tremendously difficult, warned Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. "The whole state would be naked," he said. "This will be a challenge...

http://www.erh.noaa.gov/akq/ This is a link to the Richmond VA area NWS webpage ((Wakefield VA)) which links to radar. Gaston is reorganizing, and was near Williamsburg VA at 7 pm. Munch munch nice warm bay water... The NHC said they were probably going to be covering it again, but I haven't seen an official advisory update. One weatherguesser on the boards suggested Gaston could go visit Long Island. Meanwhile, some areas of Southside VA have had over 10 inches of rain ((plus suspected tornadoes)). Keep tuned.
