April 15, 2012   Second Sunday of Easter   Reading 1 Acts 4:32-35 The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own,but they had everything in common. With great power the apostles bore witnessto the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great favor was accorded them all. There was no needy person among them, for those who owned property or houses would sell them, bring the proceeds of the sale, and put them at the feet of the apostles, and they were distributed to each according to need. ......On board the ship that night was John Harper and his much-beloved six-year-old daughter Nana. According to documented reports, as soon as it was apparent that the ship was going to sink, John Harper immediately took his daughter to a lifeboat. It is reasonable to assume that this widowed preacher could have easily gotten on board this boat to safety; however, it never seems to have crossed his mind. He bent down and kissed his precious little girl; looking into her eyes he told her that she would see him again someday. The flares going off in the dark sky...

Not a word from Jesse Jackson. Not a peep from Al Sharpton. Not one black pastor stepped up this week to respond to the attack upon the Christian faith by Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam. In separate appearances at predominantly black Alabama A&M University in Normal, Ala. and Miss ionary Baptist Church in Nashville, Tenn., Farrakhan declared that black Christians are self-hating; that they are following the white man’s religion. “See,” said Farrakhan, “you’ve got a song you sing in the church, ‘Ride on Kind Jesus.’” What it really means, he told his black audience, is “Ride...
  • Iraq Rebuilding Its Military, Even as They Rebuild Babylon: Prophetic Significance?

    04/14/2012 5:28:00 AM PDT · by GiovannaNicoletta · 13 replies ^ | April 13, 2012 | Joel C. Rosenberg
Bible prophecy indicates that in the End Times, the nation we know today as the Republic of Iraq—known variously in Scripture as Babel, Babylon, Babylonia, Mesopotamia and Shinar—will emerge as the global center of wealth, power and terrible evil. Eventually Iraq will pose a direct and existential threat to the State of Israel, particularly during the Tribulation. Since the fall of Saddam Hussein and his regime in 2003, Iraq has not been a regional threat, much less a danger to Israel. Some have assumed, therefore, that Iraq would no longer play a major role in Middle Eastern or global affairs...

Virtually all students of the Bible would acknowledge that the Book of Acts is a transition from Israel to the Church, as God’s instrument through whom He uses to spread His message. There are three major passages that should be understood in order to properly grasp what this transition is about. Those three passages are Acts 1:3–10; 3:11–26; 15:6–21. Let me also state up front that the New Testament teaches that the church is a mystery (Rom. 16:25–27; Eph. 3:3–9; Col. 1:26–27), always part of God’s plan for history but hidden from man until the Apostle Paul reveals it in...

Inner Invincibility "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me . . ." —Matthew 11:29 Whom the Lord loves He chastens . . .” (Hebrews 12:6). How petty our complaining is! Our Lord begins to bring us to the point where we can have fellowship with Him, only to hear us moan and groan, saying, “Oh Lord, just let me be like other people!” Jesus is asking us to get beside Him and take one end of the yoke, so that we can pull together. That’s why Jesus says to us, “My yoke is easy and My burden...

The apostle Paul called upon mankind to imitate himself (I Corinthians 4:16, Philippians 3:17), others who served God (Hebrews 6:12, 2 Thessalonians 3:7-9), and the Churches of God (I Thessalonians 2:14). However, hear his ultimate call: “Imitate Jesus Christ!” (I Corinthians 11:1). Paul addressed the Thessalonians in I Thessalonians 1:6, noting they imitated Jesus Christ. Though persecution came to them, they joyfully embraced the inspired Word of God. Three verses earlier, Paul praised them for three behaviors: their work of faith, labor of love, and steadfastness of hope. By these, the Thessalonians demonstrated unity with Christ. To students of scripture, the...

Meditating on Good Friday with St. Francis de Sales But could God not have provided the world with a remedy other than that of His Son's death? Certainly, He could have done so, and by a thousand other means. Could He not have pardoned human nature with absolute power and pure mercy, not invoking justice or the intervention of any creature? Doubtless He could, and who would have dared to question or criticize Him? No one, for He is Sovereign Master and can do all He wills. Besides, if He had wanted some creature to undertake our redemption, could He...

Why We Lack Understanding "He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead" —Mark 9:9 As the disciples were commanded, you should also say nothing until the Son of Man has risen in you— until the life of the risen Christ so dominates you that you truly understand what He taught while here on earth. When you grow and develop the right condition inwardly, the words Jesus spoke become so clear that you are amazed you did not grasp them before. In fact, you...

Click below (scroll to the bottom of this post) to listen to the special TSP Easter podcast. Of course, you can also listen on iTunes. (Have you subscribed to the podcast yet?)St. Paul makes it clear that Resurrection is an essential aspect of Christian faith. He states, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all men most to be pitied.” (1 Cor 15:16–19). Yet...

April 7, 2012   Holy Saturday - Vigil in the Holy Night of Easter   Reading 1 Gn 1:1; 2:2 In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters. Then God said,"Let there be light," and there was light.God saw how good the light was.God then separated the light from the darkness.God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night."Thus evening came, and morning followed-the first day. Then God said,"Let there be a dome in the middle of the...

It’s interesting how things work. Recently, I got a link across the transom to the story of Ken Kirby, a 52-year-old police officer who had a massive heart attack and rushed to the hospital. When he got there, he had no heart beat. He was dead. Apparently, Officer Kirby and his wife had been fighting a lot in the time just before that. She was distraught, of course. Having no other treatments to offer, the emergency room staff turned to prayer. Well, 45 minutes after his arrival, Ken Kirby recovered. He was back from the dead. This police officer, a...

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (John 10:27,28) It is three days since the Mid-America Prophecy Conference in Tulsa, and I am alone this evening and thinking about Charles Spurgeon, taking comfort in the fact that he battled depression from time to time. I really think he hated this world. And I mean that in a good way. My wife is working at the hospital tonight, and our kids are now...

The Collision of God and Sin ". . . who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree . . ." —1 Peter 2:24 The Cross of Christ is the revealed truth of God’s judgment on sin. Never associate the idea of martyrdom with the Cross of Christ. It was the supreme triumph, and it shook the very foundations of hell. There is nothing in time or eternity more absolutely certain and irrefutable than what Jesus Christ accomplished on the Cross— He made it possible for the entire human race to be brought back into a...
