Vice President Joe Biden had his “oops” moment Wednesday speaking in a 49er-crazed San Francisco when he told a crowd at a city political fundraiser that “the Giants are on their way to the Super Bowl.” Biden spoke at a closed event in the city’s financial District at the Bently Reserve when he made the gaffe, according to a White House pool report released today. The comment by Biden drew immediate “good-natured” boos from the crowd, according to the report by Josh Richman of the Oakland Tribune, who was the only local print reporter allowed to cover the event.

A Gigantic Organizational Problem Why do we care about professional baseball, or sports teams generally? Ask people in Boston or Atlanta, Tampa Bay or St. Louis. Noman thinks it's that rooting for a team is an initiation into a culture, a history, a tradition, a people. The club confers its identity on all who root for it, and all who play for it if the player let's it. We belong. And, that's important to people. The San Francisco Giants tenure as Major League Baseball's defending Champions ended in a whimper the other night with a 15-2 thumping at the bats...

The San Francisco Giants won the 2010 World Series thanks to great pitching performances from Tim Lincecum(notes), Matt Cain(notes) and Brian Wilson(notes). And they got timely offensive contributions from the likes of rookie Buster Posey(notes), Aubrey Huff(notes) and Juan Uribe(notes). You remember those guys. How could anyone forget? And what about Robin O'Connor, a payroll department manager? There's no way the Giants get past the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS without her.

Arraignments for the day began at 8:30 a.m. About 9:45 a.m., Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Shelly Torrealba said not all attorneys were present, so the court proceeded with other arraignments on the calendar. LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck says he is confident his department has arrested the right man in the beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow. Chief Beck held a news conference Thursday, but released few details of the results of a police lineup held Wednesday evening in the case. 31-year-old Giovanni Ramirez was arrested Sunday, but has not yet been formally charged in the March 31 attack at Dodger Stadium that left Bryan Stow in a coma for over 7 weeks. Chief Beck told reporters "the lineup went well", but refused to release any other details....

[Buster Posey, last year's Rookie of the Year is out for the season with a broken leg sustained on a collision at the plate last night. This is a major loss to the S.F. Giants. This blog post is in response to that hit.] Barreling into a catcher adds nothing to the game of baseball. It never has. Every time I'd watch Pete Rose barrel into Ray Fosse, I'd think how messed up it was. It never really hit home until now, but it's the only element of contact in a non-contact sport. It's like the NFL using Scrabble to...

Donations, contributions and other efforts have poured in after San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow was beaten in a Dodger Stadium parking lot on Opening Day. But one quiet gesture has especially touched Stow's family, something that will affect his two children years down the line. Former Giants star and embattled figure Barry Bonds has volunteered to pay for the college education of 12-year-old Tyler and 8-year-old Tabitha. "It was extraordinary of Barry Bonds, I thought," Stow family attorney Thomas Girardi told NBC Bay Area KNTV. "He didn't say anything about it to the press. This was just a gift...

A lineup has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday -- when witnesses to the March 31 attack on paramedic Bryan Stow at Dodger Stadium will try to identify one of the attackers. Immediately afterwards -- police and prosecutors plan to give reporters an update on the investigation. 31-year-old ex-con Giovanni Ramirez remains locked up on a parole hold while prosecutors consider whether or not to file criminal charges in the Stow assault. A key factor in that decision will be the results of the lineup, authorities say. Ramirez's family and attorneys insist he's innocent -- they say he's offered to...

The family of San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow, who was brutally beaten in the parking lot at Dodger Stadium on Opening Day, filed a civil suit against the Dodgers in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday morning. The suit seeks unspecified damages to cover Stow's future medical care and as compensation for the economic damages to Stow and his two children. "It's fairly simple," said Thomas Girardi, the attorney representing the family. "The Dodgers have shown a total disregard for public safety. They've gotten rid of security people. They've had all these incidents at their games, more than other teams....

The station has done the most coverage of this heinous crime, and some of the hosts have been very close to the Stow family throughout. This is very exciting that finally some progress has been made. He was an EMT worker with two children. He has extensive...
