Gibson’s first John Edwards interview after he was nominated for vice president came on the September 2, 2004 Good Morning America, on the Thursday morning of the Republican convention in New York. -------- Charles Gibson Interviews John Edwards Democratic Vice-Presidential Nominee September 2, 2004 GIBSON: Senator Edwards, they went at you hammer and tong last night from the podium here at this Republican Convention...I wonder how you felt as you listened. GIBSON: Did it make you in any way second-guess the decision at the Democratic Convention not to mention George Bush from the podium so often, not to engage as...

What did you think of your competitor’s [Clinton] speech? Palin interview: Do you have enough qualifications for the job you’re seeking? It won’t come as a surprise to LGF readers, but Charlie Gibson’s interview with Sarah Palin was heavily edited by ABC News to make Palin appear more hawkish and less knowledgeable. Mark Levin has the complete transcript, and what ABC News tried to pull here is a textbook example of media malfeasance: Gibson Interview. Also see: ABC News Edited Out Key Parts of Sarah Palin Interview. The interview was so egregiously biased, even UPI is calling out ABC News for their blatant double standards: ABC’s Gibson grilled Palin hard, but it may backfire. The double-standard Gibson applied to Palin, compared...

ABC "News" Charles Gibson Interviews Barack Obama Presumptive Democratic Presidential Nominee June 4, 2008 (after Hillary Clinton concedes) http://abcnews.go.com/print?id=5000184 GIBSON: Senator, I'm curious about your feelings last night. It was an historic moment. Has it sunk in yet? GIBSON: What did your grandmother say? GIBSON: Public moments are not your own. There's a million people pulling you in a million different directions, but when everybody clears out, the staff is gone, you're in your hotel room at night and you're alone -- do you say to yourself: "Son of a gun, I've done this?" Mark Levin has the complete transcript, including the parts that ABC edited out. It looks as if the Palin people took Glenn Reynolds' advice and recorded the interview.

As we watched Sarah Palin on TV the last couple of days, we kept wondering what on earth John McCain was thinking. If he seriously thought this first-term governor — with less than two years in office — was qualified to be president, if necessary, at such a dangerous time, it raises profound questions about his judgment. If the choice was, as we suspect, a tactical move, then it was shockingly irresponsible. It was bad enough that Ms. Palin’s performance in the first televised interviews she has done since she joined the Republican ticket was so visibly scripted and lacking...

Sarah Palin, talking about domestic policy with ABC's Charles Gibson in his second day of exclusive access on Friday, seemed confused about entitlement programs -- and unaware that Congress has little say in significantly reducing the costs of Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. When she seemed to equate these entitlement programs to agencies "where we can find efficiencies in every department" Gibson lectured her that agencies are not involved in entitlements. Palin -- who as governor of Alaska should be well versed in Medicaid since it is a joint state and federal program -- did not skip a beat, just...

When Sarah Palin said U.S. soldiers were on a ‘task from God,' former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, a historian, knew exactly what she was saying. She was quoting President Abraham Lincoln. The day after a September 11 interview with Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, aired on ABC's "World News with Charles Gibson," Gingrich blasted the media for its historical ignorance. He then pointed out Gibson's interview as a specific example. ...more (w/video)...

Here is video of Gov. Sarah Palin's interview with Charles Gibson that ran on ABC's 20/20 last night. ABC did such a cut and paste job on this interview that it is impossible to only post new portions of the interview. Much of parts one and two contain what has already been posted, with a few portions of new material interspersed. Part 3 is new material not previously posted. As a whole, the interview was clearly a "hitpiece" in my opinion. Gibson had a condescending attitude for the most part, and did everything he could to ask "gotcha" questions. At...

You keep using that word. I do not think it means, what you think it means. Inigo Montoya to Vizzini in The Princess Bride That line from the movie is so apropos of many of the things in the Media. Take, for example “Swiftboating.” To the Media it means to tell lies about a candidate for public office. To people who actually read the Swiftboat Vets books and saw their ads it refers to Kerry's fellow Swift Boat vets telling the truth about John Kerry’s actions in Viet Nam and his activities to smear his fellow vets when he got...

A transcript of the unedited interview of Sarah Palin by Charles Gibson clearly shows that ABC News edited out crucial portions of the interview that showed Palin as knowledgeable or presented her answers out of context. This unedited transcript of the first of the Gibson interviews with Palin is available on radio host Mark Levin's website. The sections edited out by ABC News are in bold. The first edit shows Palin responding about meeting with foreign leaders but this was actually in response to a question Gibson asked several questions earlier: GIBSON: Have you ever met a foreign head of...

WASHINGTON, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- There were no surprises, no knockout zingers, but also no bloopers Thursday night in Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's first TV interview since becoming the Republican vice presidential nominee. Charles Gibson of ABC News was out for blood and inherently applied a double-standard compared with the kid gloves George Stephanopoulos used on Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois on Sunday night. Gibson was out to embarrass Palin and expose her presumed ignorance from the word go. By contrast, when Obama referred to his "Muslim faith" on Sunday and did not correct himself, Stephanopoulos rushed...

Let's organize a letter writing campaign to ABC's advertisers, telling them we won't buy their products unti Charlie Gibson interviews Barack Obama with the same sort of high-handed grilling he gave Governor Palin. Can someone get together transcripts that show the softballs Charlie gave Obama versus what he's asked of Governor Palin? I think showing these to their advertisers would make the point clear. We should seek the more conservative-friendly advertisers.

Palin Was Right to Be Confused by Question, Experts Say By Michael Abramowitz Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, September 13, 2008; Page A01 Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin seemed puzzled Thursday when ABC News anchor Charles Gibson asked her whether she agrees with the "Bush doctrine." "In what respect, Charlie?" she replied. Intentionally or not, the Republican vice presidential nominee was on to something. Charles Krauthammer, the man who coined the phrase “Bush doctrine,” turns the table on the condescending Charlie Gibson. Take off your smart glasses, Charlie. Because you’ve been schooled: The New York Times got it wrong. And Charlie Gibson got it wrong. There is no single meaning of the Bush doctrine. Charles Gibson, foot-swinging ABC News “gotcha” merchant, looked like someone poured castor oil in his Cheerio bowl just prior to his interview with Governor Sarah Palin. He had a scowl on his kisser that would’ve made WC Fields envious, all the while masterfully balancing those professorial eyeglasses on the end of his nose like a seasoned circus performer handles the tightrope. In retrospect, he probably should have – and certainly could have - been a smidgen more specific when grilling Governor Palin about the Bush Doctrine. Still, the onus was squarely on the Governor of the great state of Alaska...

WAR MOM PALIN TAKES HARD LINE By CHARLES HURT Bureau Chief September 12, 2008 -- WASHINGTON - Vice-presidential hopeful Sarah Palin saw her eldest son off to war yesterday as she took a hard line on Russia, Iran and terrorists "hellbent on destroying America and our allies." Asked in her first extended interview since becoming John McCain's running mate if she thinks she's qualified to take over the presidency, Palin replied, "I do." "I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink," she told ABC News. "You have to be wired in a way of being...

For ABC anchor Charlie Gibson, it was almost a no-win situation, yet he came out of it not losing. Gibson's interviews with Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin -- who had been carefully sheltered from the media previously -- would have been criticized if he'd seemed too gentle, and yet attacked from other quarters if he'd seemed too tough. So he tried to be both and neither -- a very iffy trick. Usually likable and personable on-screen, Gibson seemed uncharacteristically pompous during part of the first interview, excerpts from which aired on "ABC World News" on Thursday. But in subsequent...

Ask and you shall receive. I've been absolutely swamped with emails about Palin and her performance last night. There are way too many to clip quotes from, so let me summarize some of the general themes: A few people thought she absolutely bombed, coming across as totally unprepared. The vast majority, however, gave her a passing grade, though some more enthusiastically than others. Bottom line, the consensus appears to be she a fair job last night, neither acing nor failing her first test with the media. Many pointed out that she looked a bit nervous, came across as scripted -...

Gibson and Palin – Day 2 [Yuval Levin] If yesterday’s portion of the Charlie Gibson interview of Sarah Palin was good but not great for her, today’s was fantastic. She was calm and at ease, poised, clear, and—like yesterday—substantively right on target. The portion at the end of the newscast, about balancing motherhood and political leadership, could well be worth more than all the ads the McCain campaign has purchased lately. Stylistically, today was far better than yesterday for her. But the more striking thing is that substantively, her answers in both cases were more or less exactly what they...

If Democrats and the media can't stop talking about Sarah Palin and "The Bush Doctrine" for the next week, take heart - it's going to be OK. Following the first night of the Sarah Palin interview with Charlie Gibson, the big headlines of "Sarah Palin: Tough on National Security, Unsure of Bush Doctrine, Disagreed with McCain on ANWR" are fine by me. And I don't think that America is going to laugh Sarah Palin out of presidential politics for not knowing what "the Bush doctrine" is. (In fact, I thought she handled the question pretty well. Sure,...

I don't go along with the view that her answers on the "Bush doctrine" were a serious misstep, however. True, she did not know what that term meant. The fact is, it means different things to different people. If Gibson had put that question to me, my answer would have been: "It depends what you mean by the Bush doctrine." In effect, that was what she said. And it deserves to be noted (as Jim points out, but with a kindly lack of emphasis, calling it a minor error) that Gibson himself apparently does not know what it means. GIBSON...

ABC News anchor Charles Gibson may have thought he was giving a fair but “tough” interview to Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, in the first press contact with the new vice-presidential candidate. But ABC did itself no favors. Viewers watching the dagger-and-sheath interview — aired on national television last night and endlessly replayed on “YouTube” — could easily draw a different conclusion. Unconsciously or not, Gibson’s manner and language fairly dripped with condescension and disbelief. It was the flourish of a trial attorney who chooses to substitute body language for substance, in persuading the jury that the witness is unworthy....

The Rumblings In The Jungle – Journalists Turn On Charlie Gibson. The phone lines are again rumbling in New York and Washington. The overriding question: Et Tu, Charlie? I have spoken with a number of old TV journalist friends in last 12 hours. The haze of amazement hanging over the network newsroom is palatable. It’s as if old truths have been proven wrong, old friends abandoned their dearest comrades, and we all awakened up to find out that 2 + 2 really does equals 7. The following excerpts are from the ABC News exclusive interview with Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in Wasilla, Alaska, conducted by "World News" anchor Charlie Gibson on September 12, 2008. Sarah Palin on 'Bridge to Nowhere': CHARLES GIBSON: You have said continually, since he chose you as his vice-presidential nominee, that I said to Congress, thanks but not thanks. If we're going to build that bridge, we'll build it ourselves. SARAH PALIN: Right. CHARLES GIBSON: But it's now pretty clearly documented. You supported that bridge before you opposed it. You were wearing a t-shirt in the 2006 campaign, showed...

In Governor Sarah Palin's first media interview since her nomination, Charles Gibson has insisted on forcing Sarah Palin to defend something she did not say: GIBSON: You said recently, in your old church, "Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God." Are we fighting a holy war? PALIN: You know, I don't know if that was my exact quote. GIBSON: Exact words. The problem is that her full statement simply asked people to pray for soldiers to do the right thing and for US leaders to do God's will in general when sending...

Nearly two years ago, when the inexperienced presidential candidate Barack Obama sat for his first interview with Charles Gibson, the ABC anchor did not try and expose any gaps in Obama’s foreign policy knowledge or press him about his readiness for the job he was seeking. Instead Gibson emphasized Obama’s personal story, about how his parents met, how Obama met his wife, etc. But just as he did with his Thursday night interview with GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, Gibson did ask Obama about the “hubris” he displayed in seeking the presidency. Here’s the exchange from the November 1,...

In American foreign policy, a new motto: Don't ask. Tell For eight years the Clinton Administration preached the need for exquisite sensitivity to the Russians. They'd had a rough time. They needed nurturing from their new American friends. They got it. We fed them loans, knowing that much of the money would disappear corruptly. We turned away from atrocity in Chechnya lest we weaken the new Russian state. But most important, we went weak in the knees on missile defense. The prospect of American antiballistic missiles upset the Russians. And upsetting the Russians was something we simply were not to...

Liberals speak in endless commas – epitomized by the stop-and-go cadence of the teleprompter-free Democratic Presidential nominee himself – offering platitude upon slogan, catchphrase upon buzzword, with scarcely a substantive morsel to gnaw on. Upon each utterance, the main-stream-media pools their collective saliva until there is just enough water for Senator Obama to walk upon. For me, the primeval instinct to bang my head against the wall when listening to him (or almost any liberal) try to explicate a position is often very powerful. Being rather fond of my skull, however, I tend to avoid it. The “debate” between the...

Hubris was indeed revealed in the ABC interview with Sarah Palin, and it wasn't coming from Sarah Palin, but Charlie Gibson. But there was more than Charlie's sneering condescending tone, looking down over the rim of his glasses like some snobby intellectual that bothered me. Twisting her words into a fabrication feeding the fear of theocracy was utterly insulting. It was especially insulting to claim that these were her "exact words" after being challenged on it. Watch this video excerpt from the interview to see the exchange. Here is the transcript of the exchange: GIBSON: You said recently, in your...

The nattering nabobs of nonsense are busy parsing Sarah Palin's answers to Charlie Gibson's questions in the first segment of the ABC News interview and proclaiming that she isn't ready to be vice president, God forbid president of the United States. "She wants to start a war with Russia!" and "She didn't know what the Bush Doctrine is!" they are sneering. Never mind that she never said that we should or would go to war with Russia. Never mind that the Bush Doctrine, as summerized in s National Security Strategy statement released in 2002, consists of eight different principles on...
