Obama heads to the golf courseBy Russell Berman - 04/07/12 02:11 PM ET President Obama kicked off the sunny Easter weekend on Saturday with a trip to the golf course. The president, a frequent golfer, left the White House shortly before 1 p.m. for a ride to what has become his home course at Andrews Air Force Base. The weather is beautiful in the Washington D.C. area this weekend, sunny with temperatures in the low 60s. It's the second round of golf for Obama this Spring, and also the second time this week the White House has put golf on...

WASHINGTON, April 5 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama believes women should be allowed to join the all-male Augusta National Golf Club, the White House said on Thursday, adding pressure on the exclusive 80-year-old organization to drop its restrictive policy. "His personal opinion is that women should be admitted," White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters, saying he had spoken to Obama about the issue, as the prestigious Masters tournament got under way in Augusta, Georgia. In a rare moment of agreement with Obama, Republican front-runner Mitt Romney, the Democratic president's likely opponent in the Nov. 6 election, said if it...

WASHINGTON (AP)—A White House spokesman said Thursday that President Barack Obama believes women should be admitted as members to the all-male Augusta National, home of the Masters golf tournament. White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters that Obama’s “personal opinion is that women should be admitted” to the golf club. Carney said it was “up to the club to decide” but Obama told him he personally thinks women should be welcome. “We’re kind of long past the time when women should be excluded from anything,” Carney said. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Obama’s likely challenger in the fall, said...

(CNN) – Mitt Romney added his voice to the chorus calling for women to be allowed to join Augusta National Golf Club. When asked if women should be admitted, the Republican presidential frontrunner responded: "Of course." "I am not a member of Augusta. I don't know if I would qualify. My golf game is not that good," Romney told reporters after an energy-themed event in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. "Certainly if I were a member, if I could run Augusta, which isn't likely to happen, of course I'd have women into Augusta." Earlier Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said President...

GOP presidential contenders have criticized Obama for playing golf during an economic crisis, suggesting that the president is out-of-touch with the concerns of voters. Tiger Woods finally brought the buzz back to the very thing that made him famous - winning. Two weeks after another injury scare, and two days before his former coach's book goes on sale, Woods looked dominant as ever in that red shirt on Sunday to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational. It was his first PGA Tour victory since a sex scandal at the end of 2009 led to one of the greatest downfalls in sports. And with the Masters only two weeks away, Woods looks more capable of ever than resuming his pursuit of Jack Nicklaus in the majors.

The earthquake that originated here in Virginia was felt across the east coast of the United States, including the Massachusetts island of Martha’s Vineyard, where Barack Obama is holidaying. The President was out playing golf at Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs when the tremors were detected... Politico’s Carrie Budoff Brown, the White House pool print journalist, reported that shortly after the quake: "He (Obama) stepped up to his ball, which was several feet from the hole, and made two practice strokes. He missed the hole on his first putt, but got it close. He then tried to tap...

Bethany College men's golf team has been suspended from three tournaments because of a team picture. Golf coach Jon Daniels says all 15 members of the men's team were involved in taking a picture on a hilltop with nothing on. The men posed with the head of their golf club covering their private parts. The picture was then posted on facebook with the title Men's Bethany Golf Team. The coach says the boys were inspired by pictures of the UCLA men's players who posed with a bucket of golf balls in front of their private parts. Those pictures were published...

OAK BLUFFS, Mass. (AP) — In between briefings on Libya, President Barack Obama packed golf, beach time, a stop at a seafood restaurant and a visit to a wealthy friend's seaside compound into his Martha's Vineyard vacation Sunday. Meanwhile, across the globe, rebels stormed into Tripoli as Moammar Gadhafi's hold on power crumbled. Obama monitored events closely even as he engaged in a heavy schedule of summertime activities under mostly sunny skies. As crowds gathered in Tripoli's Green Square, Obama was buying seafood at a popular restaurant. When reporters asked him for his reaction on Libya, he said he'd have...
