  • Occupier Thanks Former Soviet Citizen for 'Converting' Him to Capitalism, Pro-Israel, Pro-USA

This is just downright amazing and frankly I'm surprised this video slipped under the radar. Here, a man who was born and lived for decades in the Soviet Union successfully converts an Occupier to Capitalism, to understand Israel's side of the Middle East conflict, and to pro-American ideals all within a 15 minute time frame. He even thanks the man afterwards. Give props where they're due, at least the Occupier was willing to hear the man out without screaming in his face, unlike almost every single one of them.  The video was shot during the May Day protests in...
  • Jerry Brown tells unions to brace for California state worker pay cuts

State workers' compensation is back on the budget chopping block. Brown administration officials met with the state employee union leaders last week, according to sources familiar with the meetings, to warn them that the next version of the governor's budget will include an unspecified cut in employee costs up to 10 percent. The administration in January estimated that California is confronting a $9.2 billion deficit through 2012-13, but a recent state analysis concluded the actual gap is considerably more. The sources, who declined to talk on the record because the administration asked all involved to keep the discussions secret, said...

Portugal has resorted to cutting four of its 14 annual public holidays in an attempt to trim its budget deficit and boost economic output as speculation grows that it will require a second bailout. From 2013 there will be a five-year hiatus during which two religious holidays and two public holidays will be cancelled. All Saints Day, Corpus Christi, a commemoration of the formation of the Portuguese Republic and a holiday celebrating independence from Spanish rule will all now be regular working days. Portuguese daily Diario de Noticias reports that the Portuguese Catholic Church claims to have reached an "exceptional...

The debate over same sex “marriage” has engaged the heartfelt feelings and convictions of millions of Americans. Then there is Barack Obama. In his ABC interview, the president pretended that his much touted “evolution” had now led him, ineluctably, to speak out now, today; he simply could longer stay silent. ABC let him off the hook, but this is not a credible account. In March, the Washington Post was reporting the debate among his advisers on whether the issue would help or hurt the reelection campaign and what, therefore, Obama should say: “Obama’s top political advisers have held serious discussions...

"What an amazing day for our country today!" So, now we know Barack O'Homo is Pro-Queer, AND pro-abortion, two things he told the sheep that voted for he was AGAINST in 2008. This was ALL about firming up his gay media base for the election, nothing else.

President Obama announced his support for same-sex marriage less than 48 hours after the Washington Post reported that prominent political donors were threatening to withhold donations over the president’s position on gay rights. “[A]t a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married,” Obama told ABC News in an interview. Left-wing blogger Greg Sargent reported on Monday that “leading gay and progressive donors” were angry with Obama over his increasingly convoluted position on gay rights and same-sex...

The ACLU says you shouldn't have to be a preacher or a judge in order to conduct weddings. The group has filed a federal lawsuit against the state on behalf of two agnostics claiming the state's marriage laws are unconsitutional. "There are entities out there like the Center for Inquiry made up of people who are not religious, but have deep beliefs, deep philosophies, and they would like their leaders who are trained to marry people to be able to do so," said Ken Falk, Legal Director for the ACLU of Indiana. Falk says two members of the Center For...

Following the election of French socialist President François Hollande, the European Commission has tacked firmly towards the growth agenda and called for a new industrial revolution for Europe. After an anti-austerity backlash by voters in Greece and France on Sunday (6 May), European Council President Herman Van Rompuy called yesterday (8 May) an informal summit of EU leaders for May 23 to discuss the growth agenda. The informal dinner on May 23 will lay the ground for another meeting on June 28-29 when leaders are to take formal decisions on their growth and budget consolidation strategy. "The debate of consolidation...

In a potential turning point for one of the biggest financial crisis bailouts, Fannie Mae reported a first-quarter profit and—for the first time since the government seized it in 2008—does not need a quarterly infusion of taxpayer money. The $2.7-billion profit that the giant housing finance company posted Wednesday was its largest since the housing bubble burst in 2007 and is another signal that the real estate market finally might have hit bottom. "It's always hard to call a turn until everything is in the rear-view mirror," said Susan McFarland, Fannie Mae's chief financial officer. "It's certainly a positive indication...

The U.S. Postal Service backed off from a proposal to close thousands of rural post offices, opting instead to cut opening hours in a bid to stem devastating financial losses. The postal service estimates that the new plan will save $500 million a year once it is fully implemented in 2014. The previous proposal would have closed more than 3,000 rural post offices to save $200 million a year. Under the plan outlined Wednesday, 13,167 post offices will open for two to six hours a day. A spokeswoman for the postal service said that no community would be required to...

House Republicans on Wednesday presented an amendment to a Department of Justice spending bill that would prevent Justice from using taxpayer funds to lie to Congress. The bill, which is likely to pass, was presented by Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and supported by several other Republicans who are outraged over a February 2011 letter from the department that denied any involvement in a gun-walking program.... On Tuesday night, the House voted to strip $1 million in funding from Justice in response to the Fast and Furious scandal.

A standoff between UC Berkeley and Occupy activists who planted renegade crops on university land is headed from the farm to the courts. The University of California Board of Regents filed a lawsuit Wednesday against 14 protesters, claiming they and others conspired to cut through chains that secured gates and trespass onto the Gill Tract, a patch of land along bustling San Pablo Avenue in Albany. The activists, who call themselves Occupy the Farm, moved onto the tract April 22. They are pressuring the university to preserve part of the tract, which has been the subject of development debates for...

The main stream media is abuzz over the acknowledgement by President Barack Obama in an interview with ABC News that he no longer supports marriage as between one man and one woman. The politically correct way of writing about his announcement would be to follow the verbal engineers in the Human Rights Campaign, the Nation's largest Public Interest Law Firm, and say the President supports "marriage equality". I will not do so... Homosexual Equivalency activists want us to hail the Presidents "evolution" as some sort of enlightened act when it is just plain wrong and dangerous for the Nation. Borrowing...

WASHINGTON — President Obama on Wednesday ended nearly two years of “evolving” on the issue of same-sex marriage by publicly endorsing it in a television interview, taking a definitive stand on one of the most contentious and politically charged social issues of the day. “At a certain point, I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married,” Mr. Obama told ABC News in an interview that came after the president faced mounting pressure to clarify his position. Mr. Obama said...

A German law which meant that very small babies were not recognized as people—meaning that when they died due to miscarriage or after a premature birth, they could often not be buried—has been changed. Until now, dead babies weighing less than 500 grams (1 lb 1.62 oz) were not recognized by German authorities as having a legal identity—they could not be included on the civic register and were often thus not released or accepted for burial. As many German states require a person to be on the civic register before they can be buried, hospitals have often refused to give...

MEPs on Thursday (10 May) are to vote whether to punish three EU agencies for having used public money for questionable purposes and for tolerating conflicts of interest in top management. Political considerations and intense lobbying may change the outcome of the vote, however."There is a lot of lobbying around these agencies. People from the industries and agencies are very powerful and they talk to some of my colleagues," Romanian center-right MEP Monica Macovei told journalists on Tuesday. In charge of looking at how 24 independent EU agencies are spending their budget, Macovei, a long-standing anti-corruption campaigner, has recommended for...

The United States on Wednesday opened its banking market to ICBC, China's biggest bank, for the first time clearing a takeover of a US bank by a Chinese state-controlled company. Just days after high-level US-China economic talks in Beijing, the Federal Reserve approved an application from Industrial and Commercial Bank of China to buy a majority stake in the US subsidiary of Bank of East Asia. The transaction will make ICBC the first Chinese state-controlled bank to acquire retail bank branches in the United States. ICBC has been the most aggressive of China's "big four" banks in expanding overseas. According...
