What a bunch of sellouts! We knew that Rupert Murdock was hosting Hillary Clinton but for their usually reliable editorial board to completely sell out is trully irresponsible and a disservice to its mostly conservative readership. The Post states that "Spitzer is a Democrat, and a resolutely liberal Democrat at that". No kidding: the guy will push for gay marriage and is an ardent supporter of partial birth abortion. They also state that John Faso, his Republican opponent for governor "is a man of principle who values lower taxes - would that Spitzer had half of Faso's commitment to tax...

Alan Hevesi, the current State Controller, has been exposed as the crook that we knew he was, what with his using state funds to pay for his wife's limo driver/keeper. Carol Hevesi may be ill, but surely Alan could have come up with the funds from his own pocket. Now that he is being investigated by an Ethics Panel in Albany and by the local district attorney, there is talk of having him "replaced" if he wins election over little known Republican candidate Christopher Callaghan. John Faso, who is running against Eliot Spitzer, has not been able to raise the...

Florida's lopsided contest for governor has suddenly become a dead heat, according to a new poll that boosts the stakes for tonight's first televised debate between Republican Charlie Crist and Democrat Jim Davis. The surprising results energized the longtime underdog, Davis, now trailing by only two percentage points in the Quinnipiac University survey, and put Crist on the defensive. Nearly every other poll has showed a double-digit gap.

The Powers that Be wisely decided to dump William Weld, the former liberal governor of Massachusetts, in favor of John Faso, conservative Republican. Now they have turned their backs on him giving a pass to Eliot Spitzer, who wants to run for president one day.
-
Why is the New York press ignoring the candidacy of Republican/Conservative John Faso. John Faso was the former minority leader for the Republican party in the State Assembly and came very close to defeating Alan Hevesi three years ago for State Controller. Now that he is running against super liberal Eliot Spitzer, the press is crowning Spitzer governor and ignoring Faso.

To the Editor: In reviewing the Denver Post's ethics policy we came across this statement: "When significant inaccuracies are committed by an editorial employee, or a pattern of errors in stories is detected, a department head or above should be informed of the problem immediately." With your policy as our guide we are contacting you regarding a recent editorial published on Monday, September 11th, regarding crime in the City of Denver. In it you mock the valid concerns of those who correctly argue that Denver did not do as well as other major cities in combating crime during the last...

Gov. Bill Richardson's re-election campaign on Wednesday launched its first advertising attack on Republican challenger John Dendahl— 11 days after Dendahl got into the race. The one-minute radio bombing run questions the manner in which Dendahl replaced Santa Fe radiologist J.R. Damron as the Republican candidate for governor. Richardson campaign chairman Dave Contarino, who has called Dendahl a "negative bomb-thrower," said in a prepared statement that the new ad is truthful. "Voters of New Mexico need to understand exactly how Dendahl operates and how and why he was selected by the Republican Party leadership," he said. Dendahl said the Richardson...

Harris said he got the court to cut his support payments in half, to $1,000 a month, after coming close to bankruptcy. Harris said he now is in much better financial health, which is why he has committed to spend up to...

Jim Petro selects Coshocton State Senator Joy Padgett as his running mate for Lieutenant Governor in the Republican Primary. One of the Republican candidates for Governor makes a second choice for Lieutenant Governor. Jim Petro has selected State Senator Joy Padgett (R-Coshocton) as his running mate. She is a former teacher, and observers says she brings support from southern and southeastern Ohio to the ticket. Petro calls Padgett "someone who can create consensus for the reform needed in state government". She says Petro is the only candidate with a "record of reform", and the only candidate who can beat the...

Worcester DA snags police files By Lisa Gentes and Kristen Bradley Thursday, January 5, 2006 Two weeks after Worcester County District Attorney John Conte said he was unlikely to pursue charges in connection with a crash that killed two Southborough sisters, the DA has for the first time requested all files related to a Northborough Police investigation. The request followed a story that appeared in the Dec. 30 Daily News reporting the 17-year-old driver, Shauna Murphy, had been drinking before the crash, according to a source familiar with the case. Northborough Police Chief Mark Leahy said yesterday that a representative...

The New York Times, the New York Post, the Bergen Record, and the Star Ledger are all running down leads in the story. This story could break wide open any day. $139 billion spending plan headed to governor 05/29/2005 By BRANDI GRISSOM / Associated Press A $139 billion two-year budget plan is on its way to Republican Gov. Rick Perry's desk after the House passed it Sunday. With a vote of 104-40, lawmakers approved a proposal that would increase state spending by about 10 percent. The Senate approved the same plan Saturday with a vote of 30-1. Perry has the authority to veto specific items both in the budget plan and the supplemental budget plan expected to receive a vote later Sunday. "He's going to go through the budget very carefully,...

At the time McGreevey and Sharpe James made their backdoor Newark arena proposal to use Port Authority moneys, Lew Eisenberg was long gone from the Port Authority. In fact, he had left the Port Authority to serve as a member of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation in January, 2002, prior to McGreevey's inauguration. As...

AUSTIN — Rural landowners carrying protest signs and shouting angry slogans gathered at the Capitol to speak their minds. Their goal: Stopping Gov. Rick Perry’s Trans-Texas Corridor. Farmers and ranchers say the huge highway project will gobble thousands of acres of their property only to make money for private toll road companies. “The government is out of control. They’re trying to take our property rights away from us,” said Rep. Harvey Hilderbran, R-Kerrville, one of the legislators who spoke at the May 3 rally. Republican Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn —one of Perry’s potential GOP primary opponents in 2006 — joined...

WASHINGTON — A political spat erupted Tuesday between Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison when the senator filed an amendment to the $284 billion transportation bill that would ban tolls on existing federal highways. The amendment would repeal existing language in the highway bill that would allow states to erect toll booths on federal highways to pay for transportation projects. "Tolling existing roads to pay for new ones is double taxation," said Hutchison, R-Texas, a member of the Senate Commerce and Transportation Committee. But the amendment was seen as a shot at Perry's proposed $175 billion Trans...

Abortion foes tap governor Web Posted: 01/15/2005 12:00 AM CST Peggy Fikac Chief, Express-News Austin bureau AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry, who may face a re-election challenge from within his party next year, plans to headline a Capitol rally next weekend on an issue of importance to GOP primary voters — abortion. "Join pro-life Texas Gov. Rick Perry!" says a Web posting by the Texas Alliance for Life touting next Saturday's Texas Rally for Life. "We've been putting it (the rally) on for about 15 years. This is the first time a governor has appeared. We're just ecstatic about that,"...

Dear Friend, Last Thursday the Secretary of State certified Chris Gregoire governor-elect. We have just finished the longest, most scrutinized election in Washington State history. Ballots have been checked, double-checked, and triple-checked. Democrats and Republicans from across the state have joined together to make this the most accurate election in state history. But, instead of taking Chris Gregoire's call for unity to move our state forward, Dino Rossi and the Republican Party have gone off on a bitter battle to tear down this election. They are trashing the Republican Secretary of State, they are trashing county auditors across the state,...

Help toss out this election Many readers have asked how they can help mine the county voter databases for indications of illegal voting and other irregularities. The short answer is: Yes, please! The longer answer is: Here is what you have to do to get started 1. Obtain your own copy of the voter list for your favorite county. The county auditors/election officials are required by law to make this information available to the public. This is public information, and the cost is relatively modest, but I'm not going to release my own copy for two reasons: (1) there are...

Three-term Democratic Attorney General Christine Gregoire finds herself in an unexpectedly tight race with Republican real estate agent Dino Rossi, a former state senator. Nov. 9: As absentee ballots are tallied, Rossi closes the gap and then pulls ahead by 2,123 votes. Dec. 30: Secretary of State Sam Reed certifies the election, declaring Gregoire governor-elect. "This is exactly the kind of issue that I think can be brought up in the contested-election statutes," Reed said. But why did he certify the election if the numbers are in doubt? "What I signed was a certification for the numbers that were submitted to us by the counties," he said. "I am not in a judicial or an investigative role here." The latest questions about King County came after the elections office released on Wednesday a list of all registered voters in the county, broken down by those who voted and those who didn't. The Republican Party, among...

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Less than a day after Democrat Christine Gregoire vowed to concede the race for governor unless Democrats come up with enough money for a full rather than partial vote recount, her party said it had the money to do so. State Democrats scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. Friday when they were expected to announce that they had commitments for the $750,000 downpayment to pay for a hand recount of all the votes across the state in a governor's race that is closer than any in state history.

October 22, 2004 In Other Frays, 6 Battlegrounds for GovernorsBy KIRK JOHNSON ALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 19 - The presidential election has deeply divided many Americans along partisan lines, but in the half dozen states with close races for governor, party labels do not really tell the story. Indiana, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire and Washington have become battlegrounds in governors' races even though, in most cases, the outcome of the presidential race there is not in doubt. In these states, voters are wrestling with local issues like education, energy, wages and unemployment - all of which echo only distantly the...

Delaware-Three Electoral Votes and Ready to Rumble 09/26/2004 The Little State That Could============================ Myself had chance to hear the debates between all of the Gubernatorial candidates and I do, as expected, have an opinion. Let’s begin with Libertarian candidate Frank Infante. Frank, let’s talk about that voice of yours. Now far be the wise I to think that people with voices that sound like sandpaper being ground against a chalkboard should not be allowed to be Governor. In fact, Delaware would be a fine state in which to practice being a Governor. If the citizens don’t kill you to save...

Why am I running for governor of Texas in 2006? Why the hell not? I already have several good campaign slogans, starting with "How hard could it be?" Compared with the daunting financial crunch that Arnold Schwarzenegger inherited when he became governor of California, being governor of Texas is a notoriously easy gig. It's rather like being the judge of a giant chili cook-off. Consider that in the past a series of wealthy Texas oilmen have ascended to the office, some of them rarely bothering to leave their ranches to go to Austin unless there was a football game. And...

A newly released statement is consistent with Republican gubernatorial candidate Mitch Daniels' version of an IPALCO stock swap but also portrays him as a bottom-line businessman. Daniels allowed The Indianapolis Star to read the statement Tuesday. He was interviewed in November by lawyers investigating the stock deal, which cost some retirees their life savings but netted utility officials millions. Secretary of State Todd Rokita had declined to release Daniels' statement even after saying Daniels and five other board members had done nothing wrong. The November statement reiterates what Daniels has said in interviews and in a deposition given as part...

(CHARLESTON) – On Saturday, the American Federation of Teachers confirmed that their choice in the Republican primary was the former Secretary of Tax and Revenue, Rob Capehart. Capehart who is the frontrunner in the Republican primary is the only candidate to receive the endorsement of both the state’s teachers unions. Secretary Capehart was endorsed over Dan Moore who also interviewed. Capehart received the endorsement of the West Virginia Education Association in November. “It is a great honor to receive the backing from both the WVEA and AFT. Education has been a focal point in my campaign. My goal as Governor...

The last Arizona Gubernatorial race was interesting for a lot of reasons, not the least of which were the choices presented for voter consideration. We had an Independent (Democrat) and a Republican (‘better democrat’) in the middle. And we had an unprincipled Socialist, and an uncompromisingly principled Libertarian presenting the polar opposites in political philosophies. Arizonans had only two real choices, and they chose the Socialist. They should have known that Socialists always promise to give everybody everything, but never deliver anything to anyone. They’re takers—not givers. As an example, our Socialist Governor, a known taxpayer pocket pilferer, said that...

Sanchez looks to future BY TRICIA CORTEZ Times staff writer After running a hard-fought but unsuccessful campaign for Texas governor, Laredoan Tony Sanchez talked about some of his future plans recently. While some hope Sanchez will not hang up his tennis shoes and retreat back to the world of business, sources close to him say he has spent considerable time since the election talking to people and mulling over his plans to stay active in Texas politics. Sanchez, however, would not comment on the matter right after the election, nor would he comment on recent political developments in Austin. "That's...

The unbecoming of O'Brien leaves many questions by Howie Carr Wednesday, November 6, 2002 Ding Dong, the witch is dead. Now that she's finished, maybe Shannon O'Brien can finally answer a few questions truthfully: Was it wise to endorse cutting the age of parental consent for abortions to 16? Would you crack wise again with Tim Russert about having a tattoo? Shannon, how many votes do you think you won by coming out for gay marriages? Is it safe to say that last week's Herald debate was as fatal to your chances as John Silber's interview with Natalie Jacobsen in...

Urgent message from Alan Keyes: Bill Simon is running for Governor of California against one of the most committedly liberal Democrats in American public life. ...given California’s influence, this is a contest that could prove critically important not only to Californians, but to our nation and to the world. I have often said, and I believe, if we fail to make election victories happen, every word will be hollow and every hope will be lost. Bill Simon is moved in his heart by the same love of liberty and the same desire to preserve it that I am – and...

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- President Bush dueled with former President Clinton for votes in Florida Saturday, stoking emotions from the state's 2000 recount battle as they tried to tip the balance in a fiercely contested governor's race that will decide whether Bush's brother Jeb keeps his job. "For the sake of Florida taxpayers, for the sake of Florida schoolchildren, for the sake of dignity and integrity in the office of governor, send Jeb Bush back to Tallahasse," the president told thousands of rowdy Republicans here. In the first of three events Saturday with Democratic challenger Bill McBride, Clinton invoked...

Mitt should be whomping foe - why isn't he? by Margery Eagan Thursday, October 31, 2002 Mitt Romney should be whomping Shannon O'Brien. He so outclassed her Tuesday night. He was even-keeled, commanding, unflappable, in control. ``Let me complete it, and then you can ask me, all right?'' Romney said barely 10 minutes into Tuesday night's debate when - yet again - O'Brien interrupted him mid-sentence. But it wasn't just her interrupting. It was how she did it. She did it with an omnipresent smirk that was both odd and, to use Romney's much-discussed adjective, ``unbecoming,'' a word maiden-lady aunts...

Bill Simon is campaigning for governor as a "successful businessman." Gov. Gray Davis argues that Simon's track record running his family's investment firm is a litany of failure and fraud. But an examination of how Simon has led William E. Simon & Sons since 1994 provides a more mixed picture than either of those characterizations suggests. The examination reveals a man who relies on careful analysis, intense preparation and the guidance of employees with more expertise. Simon's approach has helped his firm make money - but not robust profits- while attracting a growing number of outside partners and investment money....

Nearly 10 years after they were first leveled, accusations against Gov. Gray Davis were unsealed Monday. They portray him as aggressively pushing for coastal projects so he could pursue contributions from developers and others seeking permits. The accusations, which the governor and his supporters have consistently denied, were never investigated after being provided to Sacramento federal prosecutors by a convicted felon starting in 1993. "The governor is not going to have an argument with a convicted felon and admitted perjurer," Davis political consultant Garry South said. "The charges are false." Prosecutors have said that the alleged actions by Davis, even...

<p>A new TV ad from Republican gubernatorial nominee Tim Pawlenty about combating terrorism was condemned by his leading rivals Wednesday as a scare tactic that exploits the Sept. 11 attacks for political gain -- a charge the Pawlenty camp strongly denied.
