  • State of Grace...Romans 5

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.(Romans 5:1-2) We have been studying the gospel of God. We started with the bad news, that all men stand condemned, Jew and Gentile alike, having sinned and coming short of the glory of God. God has made a way, of necessity a righteous way, to justify ungodly sinners before Him. That way is in the person of His Son, our substitute in judgment...

  • In Evil Long I Took Delight...

In Evil long I took delight, Unawed by shame or fear. Till a new object struck my sight, and stopp’d my wild career: I saw one hanging on a tree By agonies and blood, Who fixed His languid eyes on me, as near His cross I stood. Sure never till my latest breath, Can I forget that look: It seemed to charge me with His death, Though not a Word I spoke: My conscience felt and own’d the guilt and plunged me in despair: I saw my sins,His blood had spilt, and helped to nail Him there Alas I knew...

Granddaughter Grace Elizabeth was brought to us on July 13, just a couple of weeks early....she was a bit 'sluggish' regarding suckling instincts, etc., so she was held in the Sacramento hospital for a few days. After a week at home, her weight dropped and the listlessness worsened, so she's been re-hospitalized since last Monday......the staff Neuro suspects some seizure activity, and his diagnosis will be restudied this coming Monday. Requesting Prayer Warrior activists to kick it in on Grace's behalf. Regards, Bat

Grace and Works…Romans 4 Posted on September 1, 2010 by billrandles Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.(Romans 4:4-5) How was Abraham, the father of all who believe in the God of the Bible justified before God? Abraham did not work to earn right standing with God, it was given to him freely , by God himself. “Abraham believed God and it was accounted to Him for Righteousness.”(Genesis 15:6) Righteousness from God can...

OGUNQUIT, Maine – Former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura surprised participants in the third annual “Run for the Fallen” Sunday. Dozens of runners took part in the event to remember the 65 servicemen and women from Maine who have died overseas since 2001. When the run ended, people gathered at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth for a lobster bake. They were surprised with a visit from former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura. They wanted to thank the runners and organizers for this tribute to the fallen. The Bushes spoke with the families of...

Does Purgatory Deny the Sufficiency of Christ's Sacrifice? by: Matt Slick According to the Handbook for Today's Catholic, page 47, "If you die in the love of God but possess any stains of sin, such stains are cleansed away in a purifying process called Purgatory. These stains of sin are primarily the temporal punishment due to venial or mortal sins already forgiven but for which sufficient penance was not done during your lifetime." The Catholic Catechism, paragraph 1030, says that Purgatory is for "All who die in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their...

Conservatives emphasize truth (morals), liberals emphasize grace (compassion). Conservatives want to conserve for society what’s right. Liberals want to liberate society from what’s wrong. Liberals’ desire to fight racism in the 60s was commendable. I praise God for what liberal groups like the ACLU accomplished in that arena (even though I oppose much of what the ACLU does today). But often liberals fought good standards, like those that said abortion, fornication, adultery and homosexual behavior were wrong. They embrace tolerance, a grace-substitute. Liberal Christians end up being liberals first, Christians second. Conservatives want to restore old values. They fondly remember...

Some years ago, my sister wrote from Milwaukee to tell me that Lauren, the daughter of a friend of hers, was going to be interning for the summer in Washington and asked if I might look after her. The girl is a brilliant mathematician, and the program offered her housing, so she spent a very short time with us. But the following summer, after her freshman year in college where she was a classmate of my son's, she stayed with us while enrolled in another program at NSA.

Heavenly Father, it’s in the name of Jesus I pray He is the way- for His sake, please receive what I say First things first, blessed be Your holy name There’s none like You, You stand alone and you reign Lord, You know my frame, You remember that I’m dust Jesus, who overcame- it’s in Him I put my trust No confidence in the flesh, it’s obvious I’m a mess No doubt, much more a mess than what I can see manifest I confess that I daily fall short of Your glory I’ve failed so many times- my sin’s always...

Grace is my four-year old daughter. We call her Gracie. Yesterday her mother and I bought her a new pair of pink Crocks with butterflies and all other manner of designs and colors adorning the tops. Gracie wore them all last night and was quite vocal about her plan to wear them to school today, too. Last night Gracie snuggled up beside me on the couch to show me the bottoms of her new shoes. She asked about the pattern in the soles of her spongy pink footwear. I told her that the pattern was like that so the shoes...

Many of us don’t understand the full meaning of grace. We think of grace as a girl’s name or a church word and don’t really understand the full impact of God’s grace on our lives. But the whole foundation of our faith centers on the concept of grace so let’s explore what’s so amazing about grace.

(A Biblical analogy of the automobile recalls of late.) Many cars are being recalled today because of manufacturing defects. There is another recall you need to know about: The Maker of all human beings is recalling all units manufactured, regardless of make or year, due to a serious defect in the central component of the heart (Isaiah 1:18). The defect is known as S-I-N (don’t say the word but spell it), and this defect will eventually bring forth death in every unit that is not repaired (James 1:15). The Manufacturer is not liable for this defect, nor is he at...

Contemplating what God has graciously done for hell-deserving sinners ought to encourage and thrill the soul of every blood-bought child of God! As the hymn writer has said, "Oh to grace how great a debtor, daily I'm constrained to be!" (Robert Robinson). Paul, in referring to the redemption and forgiveness that believers have in Christ, spoke of "the RICHES of His GRACE" (Ephesians 1:7). Elsewhere he said, "But by the grace of God I am what I am" (1 Corinthians 15:10). God has given to every believer everlasting consolation (eternal encouragement) and good hope through grace (2 Thess. 2:16-17). "For...

Having reminded ourselves of our former, unregenerate state, we are now ready to consider the great things God has done for us in His grace, saving our souls and making us whole. This listing is by no means original. For example, Lewis Sperry Chafer has a similar listing in his book entitled Salvation. Also this listing is by no means complete or exhaustive. We have listed 215 things but there are more. You can add to this list through your own study of the Scriptures as you find other things that are true of you now that you are saved....

Now "strengthening of the heart" is one of the great wants of many professing Christians...They want to realize more tangible comfort. They fancy they ought to feel more and see more...Where shall they turn? What shall set their consciences at rest? Then comes the enemy of souls, and suggests some shortcut road to establishment. He hints at the value of some addition to the simple plan of the Gospel, some man-made gimmick, some exaggeration of a truth, some flesh-satisfying invention, some improvement on the old path, and whispers, "Only use this, and you shall be strengthened."... "Come to us," says...
