Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll would have been 75 years old today. A gyrating young truck driver, who blended “Hillbilly” and “Blues” turned the world of music upside down when he burst onto the national scene in 1956. Music would never be the same. America would never be the same. The world would never be the same.

Meanwhile Gerald Posner of the Daily Beast reports that a senior executive of Colony Capital which controls the original Neverland states that it will...

Abandoned by Michael Jackson after a humiliating child molestation trial in 2005, the late singer's Neverland Ranch could now become one of the biggest draws in the world as a memorial to the King of Pop. Jackson's family has said there are no plans for a funeral or burial of his body at the ranch in central California after his death last week. But the rural playground inspired by Jackson's alter-ego, Peter Pan, would remain an attraction in a region already visited by tourists, and it could rival Elvis Presley's Graceland as a future venue for his millions of fans...

Two of the greatest icons in American sport and music are being celebrated with a special No. 3 racecar bearing the images of NASCAR great Dale Earnhardt and the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley. Meant to continue the legacies of both men, the “Earnhardt and Elvis” car paired these icons together as part of the “Enduring Legends” Series that recently saw “The Intimidator” share the hood of his famous No. 3 Chevrolet with country music great Johnny Cash and cowboy film icon John Wayne. These two greatest American icons in sport and music will be celebrated in a...

As fans from all over the world converge on Memphis, Tennessee to celebrate "Elvis Week" it's a good time to remember and reflect. Photo of Graceland at Twilight taken by Aleksandra Rebic August 2007 I first went inside when they had just opened the house on the hill in Memphis. It was the summer of 1982. What had once been just a man and his talent had long since been elevated to legend, and legend had become a full-blown phenomenon. I never met him, never knew him, but there we were, my family and I, going to his house, not...

Elvis fans brave heat to mark his death By WOODY BAIRD Associated Press Writer Thousands of Elvis Presley fans braved 105-degree heat as they wound down Graceland's driveway in a graveside procession Wednesday in advance of the 30th anniversary of the singer's death. The heat led to the death of a fan from New Jersey, a 67-year-old woman. Despite the promise of another furnace-like day, some fans began lining up early in the morning for the candlelight vigil, setting up umbrellas and folding chairs on the sidewalk along four-lane Elvis Presley Boulevard. The memorial was expected to run through the...

We celebrate many birthdays. But to the best of my knowledge there are only two people that the western world takes time out to commemorate the deaths of: Jesus Christ, and Elvis Presley. Curious, that... So today is the 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis. Which a lot of folks no doubt are going to be remembering in various ways. Here's mine: the story of how Lisa and I wound up devoting a considerable chunk of our honeymoon five years ago to the King of Rock and Roll. I suppose all of this came about because of what you...

My next move was to Hollywood. that's how it work's. You get a record and then you get on television and...

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush will spend the Fourth of July holiday with troops and their families at Fort Bragg in the state of North Carolina, where he says he will thank them for their service in what he calls freedom's cause. The President's 60th birthday is coming up this Thursday. So the Associated Press published some GWB quips about his age: "Security is strong at the airports. I hope they stop taking off the shoes of the elderly. I must confess, they haven't taken off my shoes lately at the airport." — Jan. 23, at Kansas State...

President George W. Bush took devout Elvis fan Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on a road trip to Graceland on Friday to pay homage to the King of Rock-n'-Roll, underscoring the allies' "Love Me Tender" bond. Wrapping up a two-day summit with Koizumi that touched on the North Korean nuclear threat and world trade talks, the two leaders were ready for a "A Little Less Conversation" as they boarded Air Force One to head to Memphis. For Koizumi, 64, who shares a birthday with Elvis Presley and whose wavy hairstyle resembles that of the singer, the tour of Presley's Graceland...

President Bush and Japan's Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held a press conference (text and video here) at the White House to discuss the war on terror, defending freedom and democracy, promoting regional security and prosperity in Asia (including North Korea), and enhancing closer cooperation on global economic issues (including Japan now agreeing to open its markets to US beef). This is Koizumi's farewell visit, as he steps down from his position as Prime Minister in September. President and Mrs. Bush will host an official dinner tonight for the Prime Minister. Secretary of State Rice continues her G8 Foreign Minister Summit...

PSYCHIC Uri Geller and two partners have bought the Tennessee house Elvis Presley lived in before moving to Graceland, with a winning bid of $US905,100 ($1.18 million) on eBay, he said today. "We are unbelievably pleased. This is a piece of history," Geller said by phone from England. "We intend to restore it to its old glory. We would like to bring sick children there (for tours), Palestinian children, Israeli children, American children," the Israeli-born Geller said. "Hopefully one day we might get approval to turn it into a museum." Presley bought the four-bedroom, two-bath house at 1034 Audubon Drive...

In these last days, the Bible says it will be a time of mass hybridization and the mixture and corruption of human DNA by fallen angels, also known as "Aliens." The government is and has been, conditioning the existence of aliens through Hollywood, science fiction, cartoons, and other sources. However, they are not telling you the whole truth. These Aliens are not ascended masters, or enlightened ones, or beings from galaxies millions of miles away, nor are they our forefathers or original creators. They are fallen angels who were kicked out of heaven for their rebellion against the headship...

The home of the King of Rock 'n' Roll joined the homes of presidents past and present in becoming a National Historic Landmark Monday. Graceland, where Elvis Presley died in 1977, joins the White House, Mount Vernon and Monticello in receiving the country's highest designation for historic properties. "It would be difficult to tell the story of the 20th century without discussing the many contributions made by this legendary, iconic artist," Interior Secretary Gale Norton said during a ceremony at Presley's famous Memphis mansion. "It didn't take Americans and the rest of the world long to discover Elvis Presley," Norton...

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The pilgrims will still weep at Elvis Presley's grave, and the souvenir shops will still swarm with credit-card waving fans, an occasional black pompadour hardly drawing a glance. But change is in the air: Strangers are in Graceland. Lisa Marie Presley has sold the business side of her father's estate and turned over his famous, white-columned house to CKX Inc., an entertainment company that also owns the "American Idol" TV show. Now, some of the fans who flock to Memphis each year to commemorate Presley's death on Aug. 16, 1977, are worried their annual homecoming won't be...

The wife and I are heading down to Memphis, TN for a short trip. What else is there to do besides tour Graceland? I heard there was a cool shopping district not far from Graceland. Where is the best barbecue in town and where is the best place to find a safe economical motel that is close by to attractions? Also heading on to Baton Rouge, LA. Where is a decent but economical place to stay in that town? A pool would be a plus. Is everything off of I-10 in BR? I appreciate all your help and responses. TIA....

WHEN ELVIS PRESLEY STROLLED onto the stage for his last performance, there was something different about him. His face had swelled, and his gut was pregnant with obesity. His hair and signature sideburns overran his head and face, and his movements, karate kicks, and hip swivels, were no longer crisp or energetic. He could still sing--he never lost that--and he still had a charismatic stage presence, and he could still send fans into a frenzy. But for years leading up to his death, it seemed the brightness that once shone from this superstar came more from his sequin-adorned jumpsuits than...

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Lisa Marie Presley is keeping Graceland but selling the bulk of the Elvis estate, including rights to her father's name and image, in a deal worth approximately $100 million. Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. announced an agreement Thursday to sell 85 percent of its assets to businessman Robert F.X. Sillerman, founder of music and sports promoter SFX Entertainment. The Presley estate brought in almost $45 million last year. Sillerman said more aggressive marketing, supported by capital raised through a new publicly traded company, can make Elvis an even bigger earner. Presley occupies a unique place in American...

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Elvis impersonators can continue swiveling their hips and quivering their lips, after Graceland reversed its earlier decision to sever its support of festivals featuring clones of the King. Elvis Presley (news) Enterprises, the business arm of the multi-million-dollar Presley estate, decided in October to no longer associate with festivals using Elvis impersonators. But the estate gave back its backing after receiving about 30 letters from festival organizers and fans who were all shook up. "From reading these, we said, 'Let's forget about the hassles. This is something, frankly, we need to support,'" said Jack Soden, chief...
